Actually, I like the photo as-is, with Screamer as the central focus against the sky. My comment was a bit of snark aimed at Has/Tak's usual focus on making the top of the jet look nice while the underside usually looks like a blocky bot or has visible arms hanging off the sides or worse.

DC/Vertigo's THE SANDMAN / DEAD BOY DETECTIVES Series from Netflix
Bolt replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This is the best half of the original story, IMO. It was so creative and exciting, i'm looking forward to this. Better to end on a high note , than flailing over and over again with diminishing ratings . I can see other tie ins with his sister (death) , down the road. -
Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
derex3592 replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've only got 3 1/6 Hot Toys figures, Vader ANH, Luke ROTJ, and the newest Vader ROTJ. I agree, they aren't perfect, BUT in the right lighting and pose, the new ROTJ Vader is definitely a great display piece! The pleather will crack and fade in time, but some of their newer stuff they are getting better with materials as well as the head sculpts are massively improving from the reviews I watch. I would love to get Baylon, but I'm OUT of display space. 6" Black Series figs will have to do! 😂 - Today

@Papa Rat That Monster is looking good! Lots of love and attention. Some seams you may be able to fix before-hand. When you can, if you sand the edges flat, like on a piece of sand paper mounted to a board, they'll join better. Then use a ton of glue to make the seams "wet". Then put them together. It will take a day or two to dry, but you may be able to eliminate some puttying (which also requires waiting time). Plus the seam is stronger. @SteveTheFish and ALCON: Still to this day, a lot of the IPMS founders are stuck in their ways. I've heard fellow club members who read their literature complain about it. That includes techniques too. Don't get them started on 3D printing either! But like Big S said, there is a big group of Sci-fi modellers, mostly Gunpla modellers who are forcing them to change. Our last convention had A LOT of sci-fi kits. Even our die-hard aircraft guys are getting a Gundam just to see what they're all about and understand them better. The last two shows/conventions I was at even had a large group of Gunpla club members en force representing and taking photos together. The downside, the judges know how easy they can be made to look good. So they get more attention in judging now😉 - MT

I just wanted to vent my disappointment with the figure. Hot Toys specifically have been hyped as the pinnacle of toy collecting by so many people so I was super excited to finally experience one myself and then I was like: "Wait, this is it???" And yes I could sell it but I wanted to give my impressions for people who think about buying one to have a counter point to all the praise these figures get. If you love those style of figures this is great but they are ultimately not for me.

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
shazam replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have around 130 + 1/6 scale figures with just over 90 Hot Toys figures in the collection. I have sold off at least 17 Hot Toys figures to accommodate other figures in the past. If you are not satisfied with buying a figure, just sell it off and get something else that is worth while. I don't need to have these figures as soon as they are released. Some are on pre-order and some I buy on special. If every 1/6 scale figure is a glorified Barbie doll, then every toy is just for kids. I learned long ago to appreciate 1/6 scale figures going all the way back to the original Kenner Star Wars figures and the Six Million Dollar Man. -

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
borgified replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
@Scyla - I have Darth Raven in hand and honestly it can be done better than this honestly. The hood on the cloak is too stiff and the plastic links to hold the flowing fabric are too flat to the look. Lightsabers are decent, but there are 3rd party ones that are way better than the Hot Toys version. I have at least 15 1/6 figures in total with a good chunk of them are Hot Toys while others are from Mondo (MoTU), 3z, Star Ace (skip over honestly as it's not that good), and Pop Toys (with 2 more on the way in a few months and fully paid off) Big Influencers on the Tube hype up the HT craze especially with the two most disliked ones in the 1/6 community. Basically its a over glorified Barbie Doll at roughly $300 USD. -

Plamatea character model kits by Goodsmile
Big s replied to Big s's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Gotta admit that I’m getting really backlogged on kits lately, with all the brands putting out Macross an Patlabor or Tekkaman and now there are these character kits in the Plamatea line. I was already backlogged a little, now it’s a lot, but I still really want this protect gear from Jin Roh -
I e been noticing that the red is a here and there thing depending on the scene or screenshot. Sometimes they’re more white and other times a bit red on the back and other times red on front and back

That sounds awesome! The Berserk kit for Guts is such a cool pick — I’ve heard great things about the detail on that one too. And yeah, seeing new releases like the Plamatea kits always gets the hype going; it’s hard to resist adding more to the build queue! slope games -

That tracks with what I was remembering. I wish I could get my hands on those novels, but local amazon doesn't list them, and US amazon won't ship those books to my country. And anywhere else, I'm going to get hit with Japanpost's postage, plus a 7 euro handling fee, plus 20% import duties, and 25% sales tax on the entire amount including the postage. I don't shop from Japan anymore after I ended up paying 60 euros in shipping, handling and taxes on a 15 euro gunpla. Oh, cool - I missed those. I did remember the Ravens paint job for the VF-19, at least... -

While I'm far more a fan of jets than vintage single engine prop-driven aircraft, cartoony or not, a well-done plane alt mode in the Transformers universe is such a rarity that it deserves to be called out as such; in spite of its minor flaws, this is a step above their usual blocky-bot wearing-a-few-plane-bits-and-calling-it-a-plane modus operandi. The kibbly nature of the bot mode, an unfortunate concession, feels as though it could have been managed better. Not everything is perfect with the alt mode either, but between the two, I think the majority will say the plane mode fared better. Despite my liking both the car and the plane, I passed on this set due to preservation of space and a lack of interest in the Sonic brand. That said, I feel that overall execution was done pretty well and despite the various niggles Mike pointed out, I think it achieves the goal of offering a couple characters and their vehicles in a unique way. I'd still like to see a Batmobile repaint of Sonic's car. The plane, too, could prove useful as a repaint/retool, perhaps as a Batman villain or some other character. Both seem ripe for repaints/retools and rereleases.- 17276 replies

Sci fi modeling is in these days. Everything from Gundam to Warhammer and Macross to Star Trek. Even the car guys are doing a lot of Mad Max style customs from standard car kits. The historical stuff is still there, but it’s almost a 50/50 thing to the Sci fi these days
