I would have settled for the cleaner looking Dramatic Capture Series Astrotrain to be released as SS TFTM Astrotrain. Depending on price, I'll probably get the Matrix.- 18127 replies

Battlestar Galactica Discussion IV with Blood And Chrome

Yeah I'll put 2004 Battlestar Galactica in the same category as the 4th season of Airwolf, 2008 Knight Rider, and 2009 V: things I'll never watch because I love the OG.- 710 replies

I had to ask because I remember finding that game in an Electronics Boutique when it first came out, and I was still establishing my credit card history. I remember reading that line and said "F*** it" and bought it on the spot. Working Designs had a contest for players to find hidden targets in the game. The first few players who sent in proof of them finding all the targets got prizes.

Marvel Studios TV Shows and Animation on Disney+
Big s replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
We watched the fourth episode of Wonderman last night and I think my lady is done. Half way through and they do a weird side story that doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the plot other than to explain a bit about why TV and Movie contracts have a clause against hiring super powered individuals. Anyway, it’s the best episode of the show even though it really isn’t that great and is just a filler that doesn’t really push the main story. My lady thought I put the wrong show on and kept asking me who this Doorman guy is and where the main guy went. And I don’t think I’ll be finishing this show while she’s around because she seemed angry at me the whole episode. Halfway through the season and the Mandarin is the best thing going on here. And the best episode didn’t even include the main character. It even made my Lady angry at me on Valentine’s Day. Somehow Wonderman just made things unintentionally personal. I don’t even know if I’ll finish the show myself- 1553 replies

I get staying accurate to the anime is important, especially with a beloved design. But I’m not really as into the spindly newer designs and actually think the thicker hg kits look better than the anime, but these definitely will not satisfy fans of how it’s supposed to look.

They had to do drunken camera stuff because the ch was a bit rough on the newer show. You gotta hide the bad somehow and keeping the camera moving was their solution

Considering Broadway accidently shot Elisa with her own gun in the episode "Deadly Force", it makes sense to add in the gun, torch and badge with the figure.- 1044 replies

I really liked the look of the new Vipers. I only wish they had been a little larger. I did kitbash the Nu version with the TOS and it looked pretty good, IIDSSM. I have to try and find a pic of it. It was too jarring. In fact every time they did it, it would pull me out of the story. 'Why was the 'camera' jumping around like that?' I'd ask myself. When I'm watching something happen my focus doesn't jump and telescope. Like in real life, I watch the entire scene unfold, and when they would suddenly jump closer to one aspect it would break up the entire shot. Plus, they did it way too often. Once or twice? Fine. But just about every exterior shot had that gimmick. But that comes down to personal preference. I'm not in the scene with them, I am outside of it trying to see what is going on, so show me everything. Well, as you state, it was because of budget constraints and not personal, 'artistic' expression. And what they did show, repeatedly, at least stayed steady and didn't jerk around all over the place like the camera guy was drunk. So whole-heartedly agree! And I missed the energy guns and the Cylons as an alien race.

Methinks you read too much into what I stated. I made zero claims regarding SFX/CGI quality or any statement as to which series was superior. All I commented on was the overuse, not the overall use, of the shaky cam and rapid zooming employed by Zoic Studios, in response to @Thom; their work was outstanding but those techniques did become VERY gimmicky and would've benefitted greatly from more judicious use, in my opinion; that's all. Given the primitive state of SFX/miniature compositing at the time and all the other constraints and network shenanigans you mentioned, it is a downright miracle they were able to create and deliver what they did, when they, on time for a broadcast schedule that was far more demanding in number of episodes and release schedules than what has become the modern norm, and you can't really fault them for the heavy reuse of canned SFX footage... it was, after all, the budget-conscious SOP (from before the original Star Trek to roughly midway through Voyager) up until CGI became cost effective. To this day, I still think it was a missed opportunity on Zoic's and RDM's part not to include the Turbo Boost effect (it was visceral and visually striking) in their Vipers' bag of tricks; that the original miniature artists did it, and how they accomplished it, deserves high praise.

I'm reading a lot of hatred over SS86 Astrotrain. Infact if you hit Reddit you'll see almost every hour the last couple of days someone has been posting images about how mistransformed the promo images have been, then when new images come in that's a little better, it's still supposedly mistransformed even further but fixed a couple of the gripes. But it seems a ton are in agreement the price tag and what we're getting just doesn't match up well and making others think they will either keep their WFC variant or Headmaster. I for one stayed with my Headmaster but rarely ever saw the WFC which I thought was a nicer figure at the time. As for this SS86 Astrotrain, I'm not impressed by it, he seems to be overall just a hard character to design as a physical toy. His robot mode is a bit of a mishmash of details with really long heels on him which I just despise when I see stuff like that. Overall just his legs are terrible looking. And then the torso area we can't seem to see what's going on cause every image is still mistransformed one way or another. Shockwave is gonna be a total pass, I'm fine with the WFC release, I don't need another one for a brighter purple. I have zero need for ANOTHER Wheeljack let alone a 3rd release of Sunstreaker. I'm actually surprised we haven't gotten a chest blown out Wheeljack yet. I passed on TC so I'll pass on SW as well.....the biggest reason is due to the quality of plastic people are reporting on TC from yellowing significantly to stress marks and even full on breakage. That's rather sad.....on a black figure like SW it's just gonna be worse on the stress. So far, the only thing I see that might be worth getting would be the Matrix...and I can just go and print my own if I really want too.....- 18127 replies
