Often when handling a VF toy, I find something new or re-discover something I like about it that have been glossed over previously. This time it's the half-Gerwalk mode of the VF-1.

Nice photos, @MKT! :wub: :good: And I want to paint my VF-11C like that in Hikaru's red. Hope you don't mind. ;)

Opened and fiddled with a VF100 Armored VF-25F. Going over reviews of it, I already lowered my expectations accordingly and intended it to be mostly a statue piece for display. Yet I didn't expect it was this bad as a toy whilst setting it up. :lol:

The hips are loosey goosey, won't support the weight of its legs when posed hanging in the air, and together with the equally loose & rubbish ankles it will not stand at all by itself on a solid surface. The included stand is also very limited in its movement range, such that this is about the only pose I can make it do with valk's feet touching the ground.

I recently got in a 2nd copy of the VF100 Armored VF-25F, to have it as a display piece in Fighter. This would be the first time I'm handling a VF-25 Armored in Fighter of any scale, as I've skipped on the 1/60 versions.

Up till not long ago, I always thought Fighter form didn't suit the 25 Armored, as it looked too bulky and somehow interrupted too much of the base 25's sleek curvy lines. But once I have its actual form in my hands, it didn't appear as ungainly as I remembered in the images and actually looks pretty good. I think this change in perception is due to the VF-31 Armored that we are seeing more of recently, which look like an absolute flying brick in comparison and somehow I've been conflating both the 25 and 31 Armored forms together. :p

As to the toy itself, I went in thinking Fighter would be more a pleasure to handle than Battroid, but how wrong I was. Battroid had noodle legs, but at least the pieces plugged in accurately and stayed on reasonably tight. In Fighter, the shoulder missile pods pop off with ever the slightest nudge, and the legs always appear to feel that they can be tucked up higher, but they don't stay and hangs down slightly. Still, these issues are not really out of expectations after already going through reviews.

Pretty happy with both purely as display pieces in the collection.

Oh snap that's a VF100? At first I thought it was the DX before I read your post. Sweet shots!

Agreed. That top shot of the VF-25F does indeed look like the DX version. Great shot, @MKT:wub: :good:

Yamato's interpretation of VF-17 from some angles reminds me of The Tumbler with Angry Birds face. :p

I'd propose that the tumbler and other such angular designs were in no small part influenced by the same fighter design as the VF-17 was itself based on, the "Stealth Fighter" F-117 Nighthawk (according to this fandom wiki page).  Personally, although it may be good for evading radar, I'm not convinced that it influenced design for the better. :bad:  I'm looking at you Cadillac.

Awesome display tho, :good:not casting shade.

Speaking of awesome displays...:acute::shok::hail:

Thanks @Pontus

Was about to say I'm seeing hints of Lamborghini too in the VF-17, but yeah some Lambos and Tumbler have all been associated with the F-117 in some way or other in their designs, hence the commonalities between all of them.

Chogokin VF-25S is among the early valks in my collection, thought I'll get some shots of it before the inevitable Revival version.. Fighter-only for now though.

The VF-25S's insignia / logo appear to be the very first insignia to appear on a VF's back, and IMHO its design still looks the best today after a multitude of them started being used in Delta.

The insignia matches nicely with the best color scheme of Frontier VFs, and being on a top favorite VF-25, they collectively make the VF-25S have arguably the best scheme of any VF in the Macross universe...

Still amazed at how Macross VFs throughout 40 years always have rather tidy underbellies in Fighter in comparison to other transforming jets, and the VF-25 is no exception. I would have taken off the intake covers for this shot, but the unpainted intake detail bug me more so I left them on.

So many of the designs from Frontier felt like a natural progression of old Macross designs and symbols:

  • The GBP-1S armor now being integrated to be used in all three Valk modes;
  • The missing eye in the VF-25S emblem reminding me of an eyepatch and homaging the pirate roots of the Jolly Rogers.

And yeah, even the YF-21 and the Sv-262 (that don't have that standard "jet engines become the legs" design) have pretty smooth underbellies.

I only appreciated how hard it was to not have kibble underneath jets or flying craft when collecting Macross, when in other ground vehicles these robot bits can just be hidden away in their undercarriages.

I think the VF-25 itself supposedly take design elements of different VF’s that came before it, in keeping with its homage theme for its 25th Anniversary.

As an aside, when I first watched SW Episode 7, for better or worse I came away from it thinking how similar it was to Frontier in homaging the original show within their respective universes.
