phatslappy
This guy showed me this and he was so proud of it. Said that he got it from some guy in Brazil who used to work for Takatoku.
EXO
except for the super thick paint job, I would want that. Hopefully they didn't spend a fortune on it. Oh yeah... telling him the truth doesn't make you not an a-hole Rob! lol. I mean you still have that poor retarded guy as your avatar. aceoftherebellion
Huh. That's interesting. I don't care if it is fake, I gotta say I'd be pretty damn thrilled to own that too. Especially that box. It's a pretty well done fake, IMO. Edited October 25, 2012 by aceoftherebellion

Hoptimus
Telling the truth is good. I would but that though just for the crazy custom job they did!! Though they did flip some of the Japanese kata kana so its mirrored...

505thAirborne
A shame its not the real deal, that would be one very rare Macross item, still I'd take it and proudly display it! Edited October 25, 2012 by 505thAirborne

VF5SS
Because Takatoku never released any gift sets with two 1/55th scale Valkyries. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/takatoku.htm
aceoftherebellion
I was also under the impression that they never made a Max or Kakizaki TV type VF-1A, unless I'm just horribly misinformed about that. Would have been a badass set if it was real, but too good to be true.
MichaelS
That toy section needs a pretty large update it's missing so many toys.
VF5SS
http://mactama.com/mt/toy/macross/takatokutoys/takatokutoys_top.htm this site is pretty complete for Takatoku
MichaelS
Anyway somebody went to alot of trouble for that if the toys are decent they would make a great display piece without risking real Takatoku's.

VF5SS
http://www.macrosswo...art/mcr113l.jpg Guys I think some of the artwork came from Macrossworld's own gallery page. I know that's a screencap but the clarity matches the old Animeigo samples Edited October 26, 2012 by VF5SS
MichaelS
Its a real VF set From who?
izzyfcuk
Its a real VF set Sorry to burst your bubble. that is definitely fake...or shall I say custom... This came up before when the old boards were still online and apart from this there were two variations of max and millia marriage set and at least two versions of 1D trainers. Used to fetch crazy money during the time yammies 1/60 just came out and takatokus were still much priced
MichaelS
Ug I remember thous days didn't the Takatokus go for like $1000 around that time?.
EXO
These customs were made in the early 2000s. They didn't make it to fool people, they were just custom boxes made by awesome customizers. There was a Max and Millia one also. Who ever got a hold of it passed it off as a rare original.
izzyfcuk
Wasn't the ones who made them called "team alpha" or something like dat? think i still have some pics lying around

coronadlux
I would take that fake and display it with my other fakes. Hahaha... Been duped before. Luckily, I didn't pay much
TheLoneWolf
You tell 'em, phatslappy! That's definitely a fan custom set, not an authentic Takatoku product. You can tell because of the use of those two screencaps on the front, especially the screencap from "Bursting Point." Takatoku couldn't use screen caps on their boxes because their boxes were designed before Macross' TV broadcast. That's why all of their boxes just use preproduction artwork. Nevertheless, that doesn't take away from the fact that that's a beautiful custom box.
MichaelS
Well it is still Macross glad you did not pay much, that means you can play with them more and not worry what happens to them now.
Kicker773
You can have that easily made on this board. Where's Miriya...he did my VF1D box.

If I remember correctly they were not Bandai Valks but Joons Valks. The box looked cool but the Joons valks were a bit floppy. I ended up giving mine away. This set looks cool. I wish takatoku made a TV Max and Kakizaki valk. I am glad Yamato did.

Interesting....I believe at least one of the catalogs that comes with the Takatoku Macross toys has a few screen caps.....guess it must have been a later catalog or the catalogs were printed/designed much later? I ended up giving mine away. This set looks cool. I wish takatoku made a TV Max and Kakizaki valk. I am glad Yamato did. Yeah, at the time Joons were more readily available. If I had those boxes, I'd replace the contents with Bandai reissues. But then again I would never play with them, these customs make great displays though. jvm, I think the boxes with art from the show never got released. Takatoku folded up before the could sell them. I think one of the toys was a Max TV-1A.

jvmacross
EXO...I was referring to the screen caps on the toy catalogs included inside the boxes...like this: And it looks like all of them are from the first episode....
TheLoneWolf
Good catch with those catalogues! Usually, catalogues and other paper inserts are the last things to be made during the manufacturing process, since they can be printed off relatively quickly. And it makes sense that they only feature screenshots from episode 1. IIRC, Ishiguro said that episode 1 (and possibly episode 2) was the only episode that was actually finished well in advance of Macross' debut. As we all know, the remaining episodes were notoriously finished at the last possible minute.
skullmilitia
That's a fantastic custom box, what a great display piece. and no one is ever an Ass for calling out fakes, it's needed in these toy hobbies. It's too easy to reproduce now.
