pengbuzz Posted March 25 Share Posted March 25 UPDATE: While waiting on supplies for Reliant ( Plastic Welder and Purple Power to properly clean the mold release from the Reliant correction kit ), I decided to try something with Airwolf to get a windshield on it: It's a modification of my original idea for mounting the windscreen and windows, but using what little Plastic Welder I have left to tack the windows in place, followed by hot melt glue and tape to finish the seals. All that's left is the two lower windows at the bottom of the nose and that part is done. Overall progress on Airwolf: I started doing more of the overall masking tape layer, limited to one layer in most places so it doesn't "bog up" details. This will provide a uniform surface for the primer, as well as cover over the dings and dents in the die-cast. At this point, the top and bottom halves of the helicopter are sealed and the piece is now one contiguous unit. After mounting the lower windows, I simply need to make the rear rotor, cut the slots of the landing gear on the undersides of the sponsons, decide on the weapons, and mount the turbo boost nozzles aft of the sponsons and the exhausts up top. Will likely have at least a couple of them open once I settle on a diorama idea. Had a moment of horror just before I started weathering. I was squeezing some white paint out of one of those Valejo bottles onto a pallet and had the model too close. Opening had some dried paint on it that let loose and squirted white paint on the model. I quickly was able to remove most of it, but not entirely. Had to apply some weathering a bit heavier in certain areas to hide what remained. There are also other crazy methods when it comes to decals. 1. Gloss coat 2. Apply decals 3. Gloss coat 4. Sand decals, and carefully sand off the clear decal carrier foil 5. Gloss coat again result: no small edges around the decals. downpoint: it takes ages, so I am not doing it. haha I usually do gloss then decal, then gloss and a quick light sand and if it still shows then just brush a little gloss around the offfending edge and usually the leveling will make the edges disappear. It really doesn’t take that much time, maybe an hour. I then put the kit off to the side and try to forget about it for a couple days. Then I do the weathering. If there are panels under the decals or rounded surfaces, then it’s pretty much required to get them to conform to the surface shape. I’ve never had to use the microset or any other decal setting solutions yet, but I have some handy just in case the need ever arises.
