abbadon Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Excellent! I just ordered the first five volumes.
Tochiro Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 A new chapter of MACROSS THE FIRST has just hit ComicWalker (JPN only). Log in to check it out!!! First new content we have had in a looooong time! :-)
Gerli Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 The "Gundam" feeling is so strong with this... I like it.
Mr March Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I have to check this out sometime. Still haven't read anything past the first few issues, which were excellent. That's a crazy SV-51 space booster.
xrentonx Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Love that space booster! Can't wait for the printed versions to come out... Edited September 7, 2014 by xrentonx
abbadon Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Yeah same here! I still have to go over the rest of the volumes I bought last week.
Mommar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Is that like an atmospheric re-entry pod or something? I guess The First has now established the SV-51 was space capable?
Mr March Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 This "Macross The First version SV-51" would have to be modified for space; a fighter using conventional (overtuned) jet engines could not operate in space. Maybe it has thermonuclear engines like the VF-1?
Mommar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Wat's the context of these SV-51 panels in the comic? Given we only ever see thrust from that space sled thing it's possible that only way it can navigate in space is via the sled and it's used as an orbital deployment method... for whatever odd reason.
sketchley Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) About that SV-51... It's the SV-51Σ, is unmanned, and is codenamed "Rudolph" in the AUA's "Operation Red Nosed Reindeer" that we see taking place. At the end of the manga, Shammy does her stuff, and detects it - as the AUA aircraft are using active stealth and pretty much all of the island's radar facilities have been destroyed in the attack (well, she literally detects "something", but us readers know what that is), and it appears that Fokker's booster rocket equipped VF-1S is being set up to intercept it. nexxstrait Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Roy's Skull one lacks its peculiar black stripes on the cabin's fuselage
Mommar Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 So this is a prior engagement over South Ataria? How long before launch of the SDF-1 is this taking place?
sketchley Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Christmas night, in the year before the SDF-1's space launch.
Beltane70 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 That would make it just about a month and a half before the SDF-1 launches.
tomac66 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Hi, please, can someone give me a link to the new chapter? Thank's.
Gerli Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Sure! http://comic-walker.com/contents/search/?q=the+first&s=Submit
A_Man_and_a_Woman?! Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm sure it's buried somewhere in this thread but can anyone save me some digging and point me to a translation page? So far I found only one for the first volume. It would be greatly appreciated.
VF-15 Banshee Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Gubaba did a translation for the first vol. but he left off doing the rest for other projects (BTW if I haven't said before, the Misa book was awesome!) Currently I don't know of anyone who's translated the rest.
Gerli Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 There is a Chilean group translating it, but is in Spanish. https://www.facebook.com/UNSpacy.cl?fref=ts

Mommar Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Google translate, here I come! How many degrees of separation from the source material do you want it to be? lol

Aurora-7 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Wow, I had never heard of this before and it started way back in 2009? I guess since Gundam did something similar with their Universal Century story, they did the same for Macross (or was Macross done this way first?). How far did the last volume take the story line up to?
VF-15 Banshee Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 IIRC, about up to Minmay's birthday... and that was vol. 5.
Aurora-7 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 IIRC, about up to Minmay's birthday... and that was vol. 5. Whoa, this is gonna take a while, I see.

xrentonx Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Ain't that the truth!? I've been trying to pick up his artbooks. I've missed so much and he's one of my favorites.

Mine too and he just keeps getting better. It's pretty cool to see his evolution as an artist from the early 80's to the present. The moment I found out Macross the First were Mikimoto books, I went straight to eBay.
abbadon Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I love Mikimoto's art as well! I only recently got the tankÅbons of Macross the First, and I'm considering hunting down Macross 7 Trash. I'm studying Japanese now, and immersing myself in as much media as I can.
