Go check out Lee (Ralphee) and Allan's (Imaginager) builds at RPF, they're into the detailing stage now and their builds are amazing. Re your question, it depends on how big a Transport really is. I suspect 1/96 is more likely but I could be wrong. It's about 2'6" long. man, that's huge! definitely too big for a hoth base dio. unfortunately, the transport that came with the hoth base set is too small, something like 1:350. cool site by the way (rpf), first time i've heard of it. didn't manage to find the thread about the transport though. what was the thread title? Cool rebel transport and sounds ruddy huge! What does RPF stand for? Max's VF-1S DYRL version, chara works valks with black leg line in wrong postion again, can't belive i did not notice that again before i applied the precious white UN spacey decal. the replica forum (therpf.com). didn't know there was a VF-1S max in the chara set. was that the secret? from set 1 or 2? or did you repaint? looks nice despite the flaws you pointed out. Lee's thread is under the Studio Scale section with the title "A Storm is Coming" (the ship is supposedly named the Quantum Storm apparently). Yeah, I have the little Hoth base dio kit - the Transport from that is sitting on my scanner right now. It's a surprisingly nice little piece though it's kinda half and half - good overall dimensions and shape, OK detail on the main hull parts, TERRIBLE detail everywhere else. A lot like the dio kit overall: good speeders, good X-wings, worst Y-wings EVER. Strange thing, obviously a mix of different pattern-makers at work! You could still do a dio base for a studio-scale transport...just not a very huge one. I'm sort of tempted actually. The other guys will probably do the panavise stand that's becoming de rigeur in the studio-scale community. Hmmm.... So what's next MaveRick? I did use a lasercutter to make my sliced parts and the engine cones were made with a 3D CNC router. There is SOME styrene hand work, but not that much. This is what was on my workbench, floor bed, all over the house. It's a refurbished recreation center with a U.S. Air Foce Heritage theme. Hats off to my wife for putting up with the "temporary" decor. This is what I spent the last couple of weeks doing. Just a FEW sample photos. I did most of the design, layout and artwork all the way around. You'll recognize the helmet. I could not have done it without some Godly intervention and some great people helping out! I had a tiny bit of puttying left to do last night, and primer shots for a couple of the sub-assemblies: The lower legs and all the the arm element aren't glued (only dry-fitted here), and won't be until painted because I don't want to have to fight the armor flanges while painting the inner knee, elbow and shoulder areas. The magnetic attachment system for the alternate heads is working nicely http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30321! Its taken me far too long to get to this point, due only to limited building time. (John's kit really is so clean and well thought-out that it doesn't require much work other than cutting away the molding channels.) It also inspired me to get some nice Mr. Resin Surfacer (great stuff!) and upgrade my filler putty stock to Tamiya products John suggested, which I can apply later to the Yellow Sub DYRL Nosjadeul-Ger waiting on the shelf. I'm wondering what to do with the helmet's clear faceplate. I'm concerned that I might not tint it properly, and that it will cloud over time and obscure John's great sculpting in the helmet. I'm thinking I might just take half of it, or a corner, and make it look like the remains of glass smashed out in battle - resulting in the cut-like texture on his face near his nose. But it looks good because John's kit is so damn amazing. He's 1/72, but oddly only slightly larger than Imai's old 1/100 plastic kit of Kamjin in armor - the "Armored Space Suit" kit. I'm still inclined to do the broken glass. I could tint and wait on a piece of clear resin scrap, but it might not react the same way, and the long-term I'm concerned about would be a couple years at least. He'll be standing as-is, but I'm thinking of a simple base with something like deck plating looking like the inside of a Zentraedi battleship. I think he looks a little tired, but satisfied at the end a long day of destruction...! I don't think I have any pieces of 1/72 Battroid scrap in my parts bin anymore... unless anyone out there has an old Imai kit arm or leg to spare.
