For those wondering, the forums Cmd McBride mentions in the above post are at http://www.lo-mac.com/

Interesting anecdote--I wonder how much is true! Hm. At least some is corroborated. Lots of reports that Speicher was the pilot of the Hornet downed by a MiG-25.

Oh, hey, you're on the LO:MAC Forums? What's your SN? I think you may have replied to my thread way back, at least someone made a Macross remark in reference to my Shin Kudou handle.

Nope, I just poked around and found the forum after you mentioned it. But now I might lurk there a bit.

I love the EADS Eurofighter. I do a lot of work on European Union and European Security, so the fighter appeals to me. I can't wait till they start doing some major upgrades.

Classic pick has to be a Me 262A. I knew a guy who was in the luftwaffe, and flew 262s during the war. He said it was the most amazing thrill in his life. The ability to have nothing touch you.

I'd have to say the SR-71. I have to add however, that an F-117 flew over me today, a remnant of the airshow that just took place at Miramar a few days ago. The sight of that craft is enough to behold just being on the ground. Passing over your head however.........wow..........

And just to add, according to the british, our nighthawks are detectable by THEIR radar. Bull****.

I don't know what the validity of these claims are - though one British arms manufacturer was pleased with itself when its product picked up the B2 at an airshow a couple years back ( the USAF rightly replied that an airshow did not exactly count as operational conditions ) - but is should be borne in mind that not only is the F-117 now 25 year old technology, "stealth" is not the same as "completely invisible".

I remember reading in New Scientist that a number of new technologies might make it easier to detect stealth aircraft in future, including one I think which relies on picking up refelected electromagnetic signals off of buildings or something...

While speaking of favourite aircraft, theres one warbird I feel deserves a mention, largely because it never does get mentioned in lists like this - the Hawker Hurricane. During the Battle of Britain, there were over twice as many Hurricanes as Spitfires, they made 2/3rds of the kills during that period, pioneered the large-gunned "tank-buster" aircraft concept in the desert, fought in just about every theatre of the war - including Russia - were used for many experimental purposes, defended convoys out in the Atlantic before the concept of escort carriers was devised...

...and yet every German bomber would cry "Achtung! Spitfire!" as they were approached by Hurricanes...

My favs are the A-1 Skyraider and the OV-10 Bronco. Both saw alot of action in Vietnam but the jets hog all of the glory.

Ah......the venerable old Spad.

My fav hands down is the F-14. A very close second is the A-4 Skyhawk.

Me?

It's gotta be a tie between the F-14b Tomcat and the

Fa-18 Hornet.

Speaking of which I saw pretty big diecast replicas of both fighters at Wal-Mart and their pretty close to scale with the Yammie 1/60's. I didn't buy them (yet) plus there pretty cheap too at $12usd.

1) F-14. All of the models are nice, though most advanced is better of course. Wish they had decided to upgrade. Ah well.

2) SR-71. Just bad ass fast.

Honorble mention:

3)F-22, 4) MiG-29, 5) A-10, 6) F-15

My favorite prop driven aircraft is the F-4U Corsair. Big, ugly, powerful. The Mustang would be my favorite but I lean towards Naval aircraft.

As for jets, I absolutely love the F-14 Tomcat. Big, PRETTY, and powerful! Thinking of a carrier flight deck with only Hornets turns my bowels badly
