Anyone know what this dark blue valk is?

Probably just a low viz paint scheme but it does appear to be a VF-1, it's been awhile since I watched Robotech [which unfortunately is the only version I have been able to get my hands on] what was ep 5 about.

Episode 5 is "Transformation" in Robotech (I forget the Macross episode title) It's the first time the Macross transforms.

The dark blue Valk is only in that shot as far as I can see, which is part of a montage sequence of Valks being readied for battle, launched etc. I agree that it's probably just a low-vis colour scheme on an otherwise standard VF-1. Since it's not a colour scheme seen anywhere else in the show maybe it was just evaluating that colour scheme and they decided against rolling it out fleet-wide?

Or someone on the animation team decided to get creative?

It's Transformation in Macross too, amazingly.

So the Robotech folks didn't exercise any excess imagination in translating the episode titles then huh? :-)

Ps - I would have thought the fact that we don't see more dark blue Valks would have suggested that blue ink was really expensive rather than being cheap.... :-)

According to official robotech sources: This was the "Sterling Squad," (known for their imfamous "Tree-top Bebop Tuck & Roll manuever) comprised of Max's family members.

Captain Launchpad Sterling (father)

Lt "Silver" Sterling (mother)

Corperal "Pete the Sweet" Sterling (older brother)

They were immediately all MIA, due to their inability to utilize robotech technology to its fullest...but some believe that they all warped back in time to form the Protozor Babylonian Triad, which would also later serve to give birth to Tirolian Non-intrinsic Transitives (TNT), who would fight a decisive battle against the Invid Regis's most elite squad, The Kathyleeaton's, and would die suedohonorably in a near victory that would lead many a Zentradi to Arnolt-Assgrabious 3 in the A1 star cluster, never to be seen again.

This is also why Max's hair is blue, in honor of his lost family members, and becasue they timeslipped him back some protoculture leaves that perminently changed his hair color & fighting ability, but only he & his monkey know that. And he likes beef sandwhiches.

Those are green, not black.

Hmm... very very dark green so ! In the serie it looks like black to me. Anyway even green is not an usual color.

Someone have infos about this squadron ? (the black valks of the dark secret alaska base and unknown Top secret squadron !!!:lol: )

ah, so that's why yamato had made those 3 super Limited Edition black vf1s. Did anyone here manage to win those btw?

They were probably destroyed in the rain of death and all the top secret info about them is missing. They went to space for testing and were secretly transported down to earth. Gamlin's grandpa may have worked on these in a secret underground base with the help of captured alien survivors inside ASS1 but the information was hidden in case AntiUN stole the stealth technology.

Or they could be a custom valk similar to basara red vf19, or mylenes pink valk with boobs.

Or perhaps these were spies sent from UN earth government to check on global and misa to keep them in line. Misa's dad must have watchers on board the sdf1 to check on his daughter from time to time. (like milia with mylene in macross 7)

I don't know if there is any hard info on the squadrons that these "mystery" Valkyries belonged to(except maybe in some Japanese source material). They may have been nothing more than "backdrops" to flesh out the scenes.

As for the Alaska Base VFs, I don't think there is anything secret about them. The U.N. Armed Forces were in the process of replacing their F203 Dragon IIs with VF-1 Valkyries prior to the start of Space War I. Even if there weren't many in service Eathside at this point,it would make perfect sense to station a few of your newest toys to guard your main H.Q.

Especially considering that they had shitload of multi-mile long alien warships in the Solar System.

As far as the color of the Valks is concerned. It does bare an uncammy resemblance to the Vf17`s in Macross D 7 in particular the Diamond squadron. I only say this as I have a Wave 1/72 kit of one of those waiting to be built.

I may be wrong but looks like it could be an earlyier version of that squadron.

Or it could be that the people painting the frames couldnt be bothered to do it properly one Friday afternoon.

Well thats my pointless small curency anyhow.
