  1. Post your links for your build ups or completed models threads here. Resin kits, plastic injection or scratch. Let other kit builders know where your thread is or if you want, post pics here.
  2. For the first time ever, Mazinger Z will be available uncut in the U.S. Discotek Media and Eastern Star will release the series in Japanese with English subtitles on DVD starting April 29.
  3. Hi all, if that has been already merge it with what exists. Last night I went to supper with Mr. Suzuki(Gibhli) as we are of the same faith. People from J.C.Staff, Toms Entertainment, I.G. Production and a guy from Tatsunoko Pro also stepped by. In short it got lively but no shop talk. I know more people in the Anime and kit business.
  4. (Long time no posts. I am binging on Macross again, and finally got around to watching the whole original series.) So, am watching 7 for the first time in... a long time... and I still hate Chie Kajiura's singing. Except now I know why... at the time she had a weak voice and amateurish singing skills at best, and when compared to Yoshiki Fukuyama's EPIC POWERS OF ROCK (his songs are still good 18 years later... that can be said about very few fictional bands), it seems even worse, especially when she's singing a capella...and even more so when you consider how good Mari Ijima (at least for a 17 year-old 80's Idol) and the Frontier girls were. Speaking of which, I came with striking distance of May'n a few years ago when I snuck backstage at the World Cosplay Summit (long story). YOU MAD? (hehehe)
  5. Not sure if this was already posted, but this is a new series premiering tonight on Adultswim/Toonami. So far I am definitely enjoying it.
  6. Sunrise's newest offering into the world of mechs anime will premiere on January 5th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=t_Y5PEEmwQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yDoOvGjwedo https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GuRZ9VF9TLg It seems this show will start off with Sunrise's traditional "average joe is just living life until said life is rudely interrupted by giant robots" schtick. Here's some of the mechs from the show Macross fans should note that Sho Hayami (Max Jenius) and Marina Inoue (M30's Aisha Blanchette) will be in the show. Let's hope this one isn't as bat**** insane as Valvrave.
  7. Dream Hunter Rem - Part 2 - Click Here to watch Welcome! I've not posted for years probably but I started an 80's anime youtube channel few months ago. Now I have some extra special to share with my old friends at Macross World. It only took 9 years for second part of Dream Hunter Rem OVA 1 to be subtitled but I found it's release, changed the subtitles to a more typical VHS look and uploaded it for everyone to see. This unlicensed obscure gem is one of the best old school OVA's of all time and part 1 is also available on the channel. This is was well worth the wait and is much more intense than the first part. You can expect it all from horror, a mystical monk, science fiction with women in frozen chambers and of course heart warming romance. Anime Grade: A+ Don't miss the excitement anymore!
  8. Next year, Marvel will once again go anime-style. Produced by Toei Animation and Disney Japan, and airing on TV Tokyo, Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers will have Iron Man and company teaming up with a bunch of Japanese teens to battle Loki. Unlike previous installments, this one will be geared toward kids. Official Site A Very Japanese Avengers
  9. There's enough interest from some in this site on the ongoing Monogatari series for it to have it's own thread and thereby keep it from monopolizing other threads. Let's keep it all here, TV series, films, novels and those fine looking 1/8 Senjougahara PVC figures too.
  10. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1216340396/708365687?token=107d75bf This hasn't officially launched yet, but if/when it does, I'm easily in for $100.
  11. I have been contemplating giving One Piece a viewing. It won't be now, but I expect sometime maybe around end of October or so. Keep in mind I said *contemplating*, because I just don't know if I can swallow those ridiculous, zany and goofy character designs and art style. I attempted to watch this show way back a few years ago on Cartoon Network and was extremely put off by both the character designs and the English dub. However, many people claim the story and plot more than make up for its shortcomings. Is this really true? Basically I'm asking, from a serious skeptic, why should I give One Piece a chance? For reference, I love the DB and DBZ to death.
  12. I was looking around and spotted some Naruto DVDs from Hong Kong. I know HK dvds are said to have subtitles that are hit and miss(Macross 7) but has anyone watched this set? How are the subs in this set or any other HK set for that matter? Are they good, passable, terrible?
  13. A true anime classic by Gainax will come out in BD in october. Although the Bandai and Madman DVD releases are excellent, the temptation to get this one in BD quality will be strong. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-06-27/maiden-japan-to-release-royal-space-force-film-on-dvd/bd-in-october
  14. No price announced as of yet, but great news nonetheless! http://augustragone.blogspot.jp/2013/06/science-ninja-team-gatchaman-flies.html
  15. I know that this: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26575&&page=3 ...is the general MW Orguss topic, but I figured since it hadn't been updated since 2008 it would be OK to start a new thread.... now that it has been revealed to be on the way for an autumn release on Blu-ray! Remastered in high definition! (revealed inside the Macross Plus boxset) http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=37865&p=1055413 This page should be updated with details soon: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/BD/orguss.html
  16. Looks like there was no thread on Osamu Tezuka (except a 2006 request specifically about Phoenix). Now there is one Since I learned about him at all (in 1997 I think) I was fascinated by one person effectively creating a genre. And even beore that there was that 1993 screening of Phoenix 2772 on Russian TV that got me hooked and longing for years... until I got the Best Video (or something) dubbed VHS with the help of the then-budding Moscow anime fan club. Perhaps the reason I don't care much for Ranka vs. Sheryl is because, with apologies to these fair ladies, my one and only anime love is fixed from back then, Olga the robot. Well at least I got to give her some decent tribute, with the Japanese embassy organizing a screening in Moscow in summer 98 but forgetting to bring in an interpreter. I started translating to a lady I was with, cries of "Louder" ensued... I was soon brought into the booth ended up translating the movie from Japanese - without knowing a word of Japanese. I just knew the thing by heart from watching it so many times! After the screening I got a small Moscow Times interview - and found enough "followers" to do a full fandub (over the English - we had no Japanese source). Yes, I'm sorry, it was an act of piracy - but we made a point of getting no monetary compensation when passing it on. The dub was spotted from Israel to Vladivostok. (A fansub was made later when a Japanese DVD became available). I voiced Dr. Saruta in the dub, hence the nickname I use on anime-related forums. I wonder if Kawamori himself is a Tezuka fan... or perhaps I should not even wonder. He was an anime/manga fan back in the late 70s. He could not have missed it.
  17. I do not know if anybody else has been watching, but as of last week there is a new mecha series with character designs by that Hirai guy everyone at /m/ complains about so.... Yeah. Anybody watch it?
  18. Anyone remember the spiritual successor to Wings of Honneamise that was shelved? Well, no any longer! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-03-20/gainax-makes-blue-uru-film-with-honneamise-yamaga-sadamoto
  19. We'll be presenting our Macross: Mythology & Physics panel at Tekkoshocon X-2 in Pittsburgh this April. The schedule has not been released but it will likely be on Sunday. We will discuss Macross/Robotech connections to ancient & pop mythology and toss in a healthy dose of physics from quarks to m-theory. We're hoping to welcome a guest appearance from Sheryl & Ranka cosplayers for a live performance, it depends on when we get scheduled. http://www.tekkoshocon.com/
  20. Because I have seen every entry in the Gundam franchise outside of half of SD Gundam Scramble, SD Gundam Festival, and the compilation movies for Turn A and 00, I figured this was inevitable. Like how Banshee went through ZZ Gundam I will trek through this complete with episode commentary, screen shots, very bad in-jokes, and me grieving over being banned from MAHQ. I don't think I'll ever get over it, but we'll get back to that later, on to the first episode! So anybody else watch this at some point? I know it was once on Toonami.
  21. Or is it Vivid Red? Heh, "dred" with "vivi". Anyway, just because it causes a bunch of hub-ub and I didn't want to feel left out I decided to go against my better judgment and see what is being called "Strike Witches light" as it comes out on Morkyroll. Personally? On one hand it is magic girl junk *shrivels*, the butt shots and transformation scenes are annoying (I'd say worse but they're in middle school), for such a heavy sci-fi atmosphere some things just don't add up, the music varies from okay to awful, and first time I'm saying this anywhere but everyone looks too shiny and blushy, it is irritating. On the other hand the setting visuals and style are very well crafted and colorfully pleasing and there are MONSTERS OF THE WEEK! So few of those exist in anime anymore and it really is something nice to see that in something that airs! And they have a marine animal and robotic motif to them! The characters aren't too annoying, kind of bland but nothing too bad, although who knows if that'll change. So anyone else watching?
  22. Been looking around a bit trying to find some recent info on Sentinel's Detonator Orgun figure, which got me thinking about other, obscure shows and what I'd want in a perfect world if I could convince one toy company to make my "dream" figure(s). And I almost instantly came up with this..... The mechs of Kishin Heidan/Kishin Corps. For anyone unfamiliar with the series it was one of the early Pioneer shows that threw Nazis, Aliens, and Giant Robots into the mix in a very retro-themed action series. Personally I really enjoyed the brief series and every now and then I see some Chogokin or another with similar styling that makes me wish someone would tackle the series. My first choice would be Max Factory simply because their Big O is beyond stunning and built like a brick. As a fall-back I'd ask Bandai to put any/all of the show's mechs into the Soul of Chogokin line. So just for fun, in a perfect world what non-Macross Mech(s) or Anime figure(s) would you command and from whom?
