Probably no real chance of that, Shapeways' options for colors are pretty limited. As far as the adjustable laser goes though, while it makes sense that it would move, I don't know if it's worth the extra complexity to do. I'm guessing it'd just be a friction joint that would let you plug it in at a variety of angles, but I wonder how well it would stay in over time.

Nothing official. Everyone just assumes that Yamato is going to take another stab at it, given how much better the VF-19s have been in pretty much every way (except the ankles )

I've loving the Strike Rei. I might also have to track down some of those mech lego sets... I could use a few dozen of those hip joints.

Oh, well drat then.. Maybe I'll just spray over it with white. You know. Like the VF-1S kinda was. Instead of painted like a nice new pair of Air Jordans.

Perfect. I'll wait for the paint to get scratched during a transformation, sand the sucker down until it's bare white, then make a REAL VF-1S scheme on it.

Yeah, I can kind of pry mine up now that I pulled up the chest plate and loosened the canopy a bit. Actually I had a bigger problem getting the cockpit to rotate back for battroid. The peg under the front wouldn't let go. I had to remove the pilot and press directly on the seat to finally get the cockpit to pop loose. Wound up shaving down that front peg, so no problem now. Other glitch on mine, one of the shoulder covers wasn't glued together quite enough, and it can pop off the shoulder. Doesn't really have any effect on transformation or posing, but it makes it a bit harder to line up all the pieces in fighter mode. I am impressed that the way all the pieces slide around lets you still transform it without removing the packs, even if one of mine is a bit sloppy in fighter mode. Wish they'd done that with the VF-11 as well, since I think the animation actually shows those packs moving for transformation, so there's room to get the arms out.

Both of mine, the S and new D, have been murder. Best way I found to open them was actually lift up the chest plate like you're going to transform it, then simply rotate the canopy back without lifting it. Actually, I'm not sure I've even gotten my D's cockpit open yet... I'll have to check later.

Good to know the legs lock better on this one. I broke down and got a preorder for the re-release from NY, along with the super packs since they were still up for the original preorder. I'm curious though, is the upper half of the nose painted black, or molded in black plastic?

Yeah, same. Mine came without the crotch as well, but I just decided to deal with it, rather than send it back. Once I get his super parts set, it won't matter anyway. Heck, it half-way doesn't matter now, since I just stuck my Ozma super pack crotch plate on to fill the space and keep his head from sinking. Not like they're color coordinated or anything.

This is probably actually the only place where wheels that stumpy would be perfectly functional. Unless you get the crazy idea to try and deploy with this armor in the atmosphere, you really only even need those wheels to cart the plane around on the flight deck. But yeah, they seriously skimped on the chest armor. It's supposed to be full of missiles. Makes me think.. how hard would it be to shapeways up a full fledged chest launcher pack? Or at least a set of panels you could plug into the existing armor piece with doors... hmm.

I didn't get mine from NY this time, but it was specifically so I could get FedEx from HLJ. NY sets their FedEx prices WAYYY over what they should be. I ordered one of the YF-29 30th anniversary versions from them, and the shipping was literally $20 cheaper for EMS instead of FedEx. I only use NY as my last resort to get stuff I can't buy elsewhere, but their shipping prices are pretty overblown.

I wouldn't force it. I had the same issue with one of my arms, and recognized that it's the same joint that someone else had break apart entirely, so I'm perfectly content just never dropping that arm. Not like mine leaves fighter for more than a few minutes at a time to begin with, it's too pretty.

Heh, forgot Hasegawa probably hasn't released any kits with megaroad decals. Oh well, still absolutely beautiful in that scheme. For the nose, I'm guessing he used the military standard color, it's actually called "radome tan." Most model paint vendors that work in military colors probably make that color.

Perfectly valid reason. More I was wondering if it wasn't intentional. I've seen so many sticker sheets with SDF-1 labels, it wouldn't surprise me if someone used one by force of habit.

Absolutely beautiful. If I could get this as a kit, I'd probably do the same thing paint-wise, but I'm completely inexperienced with weathering of any sort, so I'd probably skip that. One thing I have to ask though.. why use the SDF-1 label? I guess they could have been based there, but I figured everyone would be using Megaroad-1 labels. As far as gluing on the missiles goes, it might not be a bad idea to do it. There's really nothing to be lost by it, and it will actually make a couple steps in the transformation easier if you glue those fuselage ones in place. I'm thinking of the steps where you pull the missiles outward to pass on either side of the fuselage as it folds. I can't read what's pointed out about them, but I was under the impression that pulling out those missiles disengages a locking mechanism inside the fuselage, and lets you fold it. If not, and the only reason those mounts extend is so you don't have to take off the missiles when transforming it, then yeah, I don't see why you wouldn't just want to glue them on. I might keep them detachable, but either way, I plan on bulking up the tabs somehow so they stay put better. Also, is it just me, or is the pilot severely undersized for the cockpit? Maybe the instrument panel is just too far forward, but his feet don't even reach under it. For the moment, I used a tiny piece of doubled up scotch tape to hold him in the seat, but I don't plan on leaving it there for long because it might eat the paint.

Kinda... like what happened in the show when they tried to use it! The non-secure mounting is canon!

Actually, there's two suspiciously placed little slots on the center plate between the arms on the VF-17. I don't know what they're supposed to be, and they don't appear to have any function for either the transformation or the super packs.

Hehe.. well, that is convenient, but considering those were a bandai mail-order, I hope you didn't wind up with someone else's parts. I don't recall if NY had spares of those in stock.

Mhm, I was expecting the VF-4 to hold up perfectly, just because the mount for fighter mode is actually near the center of mass. I think this is the first valk since the YF-21 that isn't ridiculously back-heavy on the stands.

Looks beautiful so far. Now the next challenge is for someone to give it a white underside Must say, I'm kind of tempted. If we -do- get another version of these, I might repaint one of the current releases using old F-14 markings. I really don't care for where the insignia is located on the side of the nose though.. I know why they put it there, to avoid the notches (and scratching) for transformation, but I'd love to move it down below the canopy so I could put some classic diagonal stripes down the sides of the nose.

Wow, make sure to filter that light with something, or it'll be blinding when you turn them on. I had to do that with my Bandai 1701 kit... I actually wound up using layers of wax paper to mute the brightness of the lights coming out of everywhere.

Well, it kinda depends. Two of mine had one loose ankle out of the box. The rest only happened after I pushed the ankles back to allow a good gerwalk pose, so in those cases, yes, I forced them, and they're loose around the middle now if I re-center them.

Lorn, if you'll forgive a bit of tweaking, here's what I'd love to see someone do with a VF-4 paint-wise. Ignore the scalloped white underside, and I think that's fairly close to what wm cheng was planning.

I'm pretty sure that yes, the head does have a tilting joint to let it nod up and down. Mine have been really stiff as well, and mine might be slightly off-center too now that I think about it. The folding panels that surround the side lasers don't seem to lay down very well. It's taken me a bit of adjustment to get the head and neck cover to fit in well.

You know, given the ridiculous amount of thrust those engines seem to be capable of putting out, I'm surprised they've stuck with the whole catapult bar to begin with. It looks like there's a place to attach one, but personally I don't think it's really necessary. When the F-14 went into service, it was the first plane to even use the current standard catapult bar design, and there were other planes on the carriers that used other launch methods.
