  1. I wouldn't force it. I had the same issue with one of my arms, and recognized that it's the same joint that someone else had break apart entirely, so I'm perfectly content just never dropping that arm. Not like mine leaves fighter for more than a few minutes at a time to begin with, it's too pretty.
  2. Heh, forgot Hasegawa probably hasn't released any kits with megaroad decals. Oh well, still absolutely beautiful in that scheme. For the nose, I'm guessing he used the military standard color, it's actually called "radome tan." Most model paint vendors that work in military colors probably make that color.
  3. Perfectly valid reason. More I was wondering if it wasn't intentional. I've seen so many sticker sheets with SDF-1 labels, it wouldn't surprise me if someone used one by force of habit.
  4. Absolutely beautiful. If I could get this as a kit, I'd probably do the same thing paint-wise, but I'm completely inexperienced with weathering of any sort, so I'd probably skip that. One thing I have to ask though.. why use the SDF-1 label? I guess they could have been based there, but I figured everyone would be using Megaroad-1 labels. As far as gluing on the missiles goes, it might not be a bad idea to do it. There's really nothing to be lost by it, and it will actually make a couple steps in the transformation easier if you glue those fuselage ones in place. I'm thinking of the steps where you pull the missiles outward to pass on either side of the fuselage as it folds. I can't read what's pointed out about them, but I was under the impression that pulling out those missiles disengages a locking mechanism inside the fuselage, and lets you fold it. If not, and the only reason those mounts extend is so you don't have to take off the missiles when transforming it, then yeah, I don't see why you wouldn't just want to glue them on. I might keep them detachable, but either way, I plan on bulking up the tabs somehow so they stay put better. Also, is it just me, or is the pilot severely undersized for the cockpit? Maybe the instrument panel is just too far forward, but his feet don't even reach under it. For the moment, I used a tiny piece of doubled up scotch tape to hold him in the seat, but I don't plan on leaving it there for long because it might eat the paint.
  5. Kinda... like what happened in the show when they tried to use it! The non-secure mounting is canon!
  6. Actually, there's two suspiciously placed little slots on the center plate between the arms on the VF-17. I don't know what they're supposed to be, and they don't appear to have any function for either the transformation or the super packs.
  7. Hehe.. well, that is convenient, but considering those were a bandai mail-order, I hope you didn't wind up with someone else's parts. I don't recall if NY had spares of those in stock.
  8. Mhm, I was expecting the VF-4 to hold up perfectly, just because the mount for fighter mode is actually near the center of mass. I think this is the first valk since the YF-21 that isn't ridiculously back-heavy on the stands.
  9. Looks beautiful so far. Now the next challenge is for someone to give it a white underside Must say, I'm kind of tempted. If we -do- get another version of these, I might repaint one of the current releases using old F-14 markings. I really don't care for where the insignia is located on the side of the nose though.. I know why they put it there, to avoid the notches (and scratching) for transformation, but I'd love to move it down below the canopy so I could put some classic diagonal stripes down the sides of the nose.
  10. Wow, make sure to filter that light with something, or it'll be blinding when you turn them on. I had to do that with my Bandai 1701 kit... I actually wound up using layers of wax paper to mute the brightness of the lights coming out of everywhere.
  11. Well, it kinda depends. Two of mine had one loose ankle out of the box. The rest only happened after I pushed the ankles back to allow a good gerwalk pose, so in those cases, yes, I forced them, and they're loose around the middle now if I re-center them.
  12. Lorn, if you'll forgive a bit of tweaking, here's what I'd love to see someone do with a VF-4 paint-wise. Ignore the scalloped white underside, and I think that's fairly close to what wm cheng was planning.
  13. I'm pretty sure that yes, the head does have a tilting joint to let it nod up and down. Mine have been really stiff as well, and mine might be slightly off-center too now that I think about it. The folding panels that surround the side lasers don't seem to lay down very well. It's taken me a bit of adjustment to get the head and neck cover to fit in well.
  14. You know, given the ridiculous amount of thrust those engines seem to be capable of putting out, I'm surprised they've stuck with the whole catapult bar to begin with. It looks like there's a place to attach one, but personally I don't think it's really necessary. When the F-14 went into service, it was the first plane to even use the current standard catapult bar design, and there were other planes on the carriers that used other launch methods.
  15. I know some people like the BoP and Doublenuts.. but I wish they would have just taken 10 minutes to come up with something that wasn't just sticking different colors of paint in the machine. What it wound up making was neon orange anti-glare panels and thruster vents. I'm holding off buying anything YF-19 related until they make something that can sit next to one of the VF-19s and not look 3 generations behind. But yeah.. I just bought a second Fire Valk with the sound booster, so I guess that means I'm in for two of each of the rest of Sound Force. Bonus points if we get a white/orange trainer schemed VF-17T, because I wil buy that.
  16. Yeah, it's no surprise the bandai missiles fit on a yamato valk. The problem is that Bandai uses a smaller center pin, and they submerge the hardpoints further, pushing the pylons up into the wing. Unless you make a custom mod of the pylons, they won't be able to attach on the bandai wings.
  17. They asked for the same thing when I asked if I could get a replacement crotch plate for my VF-25G, so I circled the part in one of the product images from their site, and quoted the name from the instruction manual.
  18. It's nothing really hard, I just used a small one of those snap-off box-cutter types, and used a traditional "thumb push" method, planting my thumb behind the tab, and shaving a little off the hook to round it off. Basically, I did this: I just rounded off the hook end of the tabs, so there's a slope in both directions. Well, at least that's what I tried to do, but the tabs are too small to get really picky. I just shaved down the sharp edge that way until the shoulders would snap up and down with just my fingers.
  19. I'll keep ordering Yamatos from HLJ, because those are never a problem there, and seem to go on sale every other month. It's just not worth getting anything made by Bandai there.
  20. Can take a couple quick shots, but it might not be easy to see exactly what's loose. Best option is to probably put these in a slideshow and watch them back and forth to see the way the pack shifts when I stop holding it in place. These last two show how I kind of fixed the problem.. since the right pack is loose, I can actually push it forward some, which tightens up the mount in its sliding track. If it was tight, there wouldn't be room to push it forward, but it keeps the pack from sagging. All in all, not a huge problem, but annoying that the pack isn't lined up quite right. If you can manage to pry the pack apart without destroying it, it'd probably be easy to fix, but mine has far too much glue used on it to get the halves to separate.
  21. Well, not a problem anymore, I went and shaved down the tabs on the legs of all my VF-19s that were tough to lift. Fortunately it's an easy mod, invisible (unless you're clumsy with the blade and gouge the legs), and works like a charm. Unfortunately, out of the three new 19s I picked up this month, each of them have at least one ankle joint with the staying power of jello. They're so loose I can spin the feet like a propeller. Good thing I got them for fighter mode anyway.
  22. You know. The thing I will always appreciate about the VF-4.. it pretty much looks nothing like it should transform. The fighter is so clean, there is absolutely no sign of any kind of robot anywhere. Eat your heart out, Takara. This thing is just freaking beautiful, I don't know if I have the heart to transform it at all.
  23. Finally got my final package, so everything I ordered in December is here at last. Really glad I didn't add anything else to that HLJ box, because that's about the tightest packed shipment I've ever gotten from them.
  24. Those old AMT kits definitely weren't the best, but man they can look beautiful with the right amount of love. I've got a huge pile of old Trek kits that I haven't built, because I keep entertaining the idea that I'll make the effort to light them up someday.
  25. Actually, I expect that the reason NY is able to offer pre-orders for longer is specifically because they keep their prices slightly higher. It keeps the scalpers from targeting them as a source, because it eats into the potential profit.
