Huh, that is a bit surprising, but guess it makes sense then. It just seems weird why anyone would do that when transparent colors of plastic aren't anything new. Didn't make sense in bandai's VF-25 kits either.

.... why would you ever paint something like that clear green, when you already have transparent green plastic parts elsewhere on the valk? Unless I'm mistaken, and the nose sensors have always been painted, in which case the question becomes, "wtf yamato, did you run out of green transparent plastic?"

Well, sadly I think I was a tiny bit too late telling hlj to ship... won't be getting mine for probably another week or so. Oh well, least I got confirmation that my super 17D and 19P shipped, so I'll have something to warm up the drool factory while I wait.

"Tail legs?" I'm guessing you mean something about the order of popping the tabs, but I gave up trying to open the shoulders manually on my VF-19s. I just keep a plastic spoon handy, and it works like a charm. You could probably file down those latching tabs to let them release easier, but I dunno how much I'd want to do that.

Someone needs to do a comparison between the bandai missiles and yamato ones. Are they interchangeable? I want to know if the hardpoints can be changed out, so I can load the 171 up with reaction missilles.

Yep, they're transparent, ugly, and worse yet, printed like magazines with colored dots all over. The decals aren't any better. Utterly inexcusable considering the decal experience Bandai has from all their gundam kits. It's why I painted all my markings on from scratch. It was less frustrating. -
Ok, the question that's been on my mind since the first pics of the VF-171 appeared... Do Yamato's weapons fit on the Bandai hardpoints?

Good to hear about the shoulder fins, not so good about the loose hinges and backwards joint though. My personal worry has alwas been that those shoulders would turn into miserable failures due to the lack of any kind of ratchet or access to any screws to tighten them. My YF-19's shoulders are nearly the same exact design, but are absolutely useless. Fortunately, the materials used in the VF-19s seem to be MUCH better. The YF seemed to use vintage VF-0 explodium.

I think this one is actually quite a bit different from the others in terms of transformation. If I'm judging what I saw from the lego version correctly, the arms look like they lay on the outsides of the legs, like the SV-51. It's to make room for the big box they have between the engines. Either way, I'm not missing out on this. I'm a sucker for delta wings.

You have no idea how thrilled I am to see that the stand mounts at the BACK of the plane. This will look awesome on a gundam stand with one of EXO's adapters.

Well you know... just because it looks like an AMRAAM doesn't mean it is one. Once a standard body is adopted, the internals can become any number of different weapons. Older HARM and newer generation AARGM missiles use the same body with different internal components. Maybe they still just really like using the AMRAAM body in the 2050s. . Not that the fins would do any good in space, but they might be backup weapons for use in atmosphere if the need arises. I just wish Bandai would get its head on straight and look at some real aircraft before they go trying to make their own stuff. Admittedly, even Yamato got this wrong on the VF-0 missiles, but if you're going to make an imitation AMRAAM at least mount it on the pylon correctly.

Bleh.... paid for my AmiAmi order last night, super 17D, and 19P... this is by far the most I've ever spent on macross stuff in a month, let alone a week.

Still utter bull$#!% that they don't include the missiles as standard on these. They were -never- seen without a boatload of missiles on them. And besides, did they even equip the blue ones with the armor pack?

Haven't shipped mine yet since I'm going to wait til I'm back home first. Then I'll get my pair along with my second Fire Valk with the sound booster and VF-19F all at once. Going to be painful shipping. Totals came out to $618 for two though, so $309 a piece before shipping. Yay for the Yen going back to 83 per dollar

Don't laugh, those missiles are wallet seekers. I'm eagerly waiting to pile up all these boxes in my living room though. This is the biggest pile of Macross I've ever gotten... *sings* On the second day of Christmas, HLJ sent to me........ Twoooo VF-4ssss!! Woo, just got charged at HLJ, and sent to my warehouse Now, it gets to sit there for a while and hang out with my sale VF-19F, fire valk, and sound booster, until I get back to my apartment in january This is going to be one huge freakin mess of yamato boxes littering my apartment... I just need to hear if AmiAmi is shipping my VF-19P and super VF-17D...

If the included stand mounts are similar to how Yamato displayed them earlier (close to the balance point) then you should be fine using one of the bandai action base stands, with one of EXO's adapters. They work really well if the weight is distributed right.

Wonder if I need to send them a reminder.. I paid for my armor pack months ago, and haven't heard a thing from them yet.

I honestly don't know what you can do, short of making contact with someone in Japan to get the part for you. I tried going through Nippon Yasan to get a replacement for my VF-25G crotch plate (they forgot it ) and so far, no luck there. I don't think Bandai cares one way or another about anyone outside their target market. You might be best trying to find or make a replacement piece yourself.

Oh, I did consider getting a new set of arms for my VF-0, but it was actually easier to make a replacement peg than replace the entire arm in that case. Didn't feel like waiting for it to ship either. I might order a set later on though, once I get a better handle on how the shapeways material works. As far as painting.. I almost think it'd be worth trying some of that thin sealing material people use to cover radio control aircraft, and lay that over the big surfaces. I think you just stretch it over, and heat it with a blowdryer to shrink it down.

Except, you don't have the gunner steering a tank. you give different people different jobs. This looks like it has everyone doing the same job, and makes it REALLY hard to believe it would ever work remotely well. If they split up the arms and legs? Sure.. but each one operating one leg and one arm? Seriously? -
Depending on what part of the arm broke, it might be fixable.. but honestly, that arm design is just terrible. The little pin holding the lower arm on one of my VF-0s just snapped at one point, so I wound up carving a new pin out of scrap plastic, and carving out a spot to glue it into the interior of the upper arm. It's sturdy now, but I just don't trust those arms at all. Anyhow, the VF-0 looks amazing.

I just sent everything to my warehouse for now, since I'll wait for the VF-4 to be ready to go before I ship... and wait til I'm back from vacation, and can actually pick up my mail. This is going to be a really interesting Christmas this year... I keep forgetting what else I have on preorder that will all arrive close together.. Super VF-17D, VF-19P, VF-171 super packs, VF-4.. now another Fire Valk to use with the sound booster, and another VF-19F... Maybe I really should cancel something until later on.. I mean, the VF-19P and VF-17D are preordered from AmiAmi, and will probably wind up on discount this coming year.. so hm.
