  1. "Heroes and Icons" is it? I was surprised to see it pop up, think my parents just got that channel. They have a fairly crazy/unconventional weekly schedule as I recall. I know I've contributed a fair bit to the negativity, so I get the frustration. This day and age, it gets harder and harder to just form your own opinion of something, because you're bombarded with what everyone else thinks about everything nearly 24/7. Everything is assumed to instantly have a (not so) hidden agenda behind it, and it becomes harder and harder to form a truly independent opinion of anything. I admit, I have not watched any of the new Trek series, though I did watch Beyond, and thought it wasn't all that bad. I've reached a point personally where I don't care about spoilers anymore, so I read everything I can find, and it's probably turned me off to a few things I might have enjoyed more had I not known so much about them.1 Honestly though.. if I didn't have to jump through hoops and pay extra to watch them? I probably would have, just out of curiosity. Would I have enjoyed them? I don't know. There's probably bits I would have enjoyed. Maybe someday I will. 1. TROS is a hilarious exception to this, and I do not regret one moment of all of the time I spent spoiling myself on that with every rumor I could find. In a backwards way, I'm actually very glad that movie exists, because while the movie itself wasn't anything I really enjoyed, I have spent countless hours this year laughing until my sides hurt at all of the crazy discussions surrounding that movie. I'm glad that movie exists just because it meant I could watch all of the content based on it, and that has brought me an immeasurable amount of joy this year, when I sorely needed it.
  2. Sheesh.. I feel like I would want that figure even if it didn't transform. The styling and paintwork look amazing, and it just pops on the screen, making all the other versions look pretty bland by comparison. I'm sold, just ordered one. Also I did see in one pic that you can leave the front fenders from her car form attached to her hips like skirts, and while it looked good in that one pic, I can't say how it'll be from other angles. Other poses leave them attached, and have them flared out like wings, which doesn't look terrible.

I think there are exactly two things I care about them releasing at this point. The Tomahawk, and some freaking fast packs for the army of VF-1s. SHEEEESH.
  4. Subtle nose profiles are possible.. but they require an excessive scale before you reach something that looks good. Around 1/18 scale, stacked plates start becoming a pretty passable option. The shift toward stealthy designs has actually helped the creation of nice MOC aircraft, because suddenly instead of LEGO designs getting repeatedly whalloped by the disgusting selection of good cylindrical elements, we can just start making accurate planes out of sloped bricks.
  5. This might be a goofy question.. but are the wings upside down? The airfoil is shaped like the white side of the wings should be facing upwards, and all the details like control surfaces seem to be on that side. I guess not, since the slots for the engines are on the white side.. but I can't say it doesn't look backwards.
  6. I'll say only one thing about the CBS panels... A critique noting how low the viewership of all those panels was at about the 20 hour mark received almost twice the number of views of the highest rated panel in its first hour, and easily ten times the views of most of them. I'm honestly not even sure what that says about the fanbase, because I can't quite separate the quality of the entertainment from the amusement of watching someone giving a running commentary of a trainwreck recorded about about 1000 frames per second. I did think it was funny that the most-watched one was the Voyager panel, though, at least at the time of the commentary.
  7. Ok, now where's the minifig-scale Switchblade?
  8. Really not bad for the scale, and you're right, that's not a bad price. You planning on adding a bowl of fruit to the middle of the table?
  9. I wish they would bring back the old Technics figures. Quite a bit bigger, but they had most of the articulation of the old 1980s GI Joe figures.
  10. Because Nintendo is becoming Disney 2, and feels the need to vault all of their properties for limited release every few years. Grab the All-Stars pack while you can, because it's only available until next March, because Nintendo can't bear to keep their factories printing.... redemption codes.... The Galaxy 2 re-release will only be playable on the Switch 2.
  11. I mean.. I feel like that's a zero-brainer. The -only- reason I considered pre-ordering was for that, but my PS2 copy still works. That being said, the inevitability of this edition is why I never bought AC7 at all. Though, I have to wonder how much other DLC won't be included in the "premium edition."
  12. Actually, you know, cutting a lip into those useless pegs so you could hang the arms from them might not be a bad idea... or just replacing them with a hooked tab that's a bit longer, if it'll fit. Far as goggles go though, we are talking about Yamato's engineering, and not Bandai's. Why not just swap the heads? It's not like the Hikaru 1J is a terribly rare edition.
  13. Honestly, that's not too bad at all. Grats on finding one!
  14. The rumor mill had actually already been floating the idea that Shuri would be taking on the role herself in the next movie, though whether there was anything more than conjecture to it remains to be seen (and I have no idea whether that was ever shown in the comics). Still, it's heartbreaking to hear the details of his illness, and how long he had been fighting behind the scenes.
  15. You know.. just a thought about that thigh hinge, but you could potentially do it without any pivoting joint at all. The parts would need to be very precise, but I'm thinking you could actually embed a sliding hinge inside the accordion piece. Maybe. I'm thinking of a sliding friction hinge I'm working on for a Klingon BoP kit that uses a dual tracked sliding mechanism, but there may not be enough room to stack enough layers within the leg to make enough friction. Also remember that most VF-1 legs in recent memory use the notches in the accordion joint as a ratcheting mechanism, with a flexible tooth on the inside of the thigh that will catch into the layers of the accordion shape.
  16. I'm actually not sure if the licensing was the main issue for that case, since LEGO has partnered with Boeing before, when they made sets of airliners (I believe they released an official 787 set). A bigger issue was revealed by a reviewer who got a copy of the set, and found out that the inner mechanism was so over-geared that it was self-destructing, and tearing the teeth off of some of the sprockets. I think the licensing for stuff like Ace Combat is more on the research and development side, getting info straight from the manufacturer about how things look and work; the general audience of most flight games is so far removed from the customer base of most aircraft manufacturers, the licensing doesn't seem like it could be related to advertising. Manufacturers caring about how their products are portrayed does become a massive issue with racing games though, because certain production companies have very strict rules about how they want their cars shown on screen. The big one that I always hear about is Porsche, and how they are incredibly stingy with who they allow to include their cars in any game at all, but many of the manufacturers will outright refuse to let you use their car if there is any physical damage modeling in the game, because they just don't want people doing virtual damage to their virtual merchandise.

I might be imagining things, but I feel like someone here used small slices of surgical tubing as hardpoint mounts? I was able to drill out some styrene sprue from a random model kit and make little plastic donuts that I can glue on, but it's very tricky to drill the hole perfectly for a tight fit. Rubber tubing would give you a nice bit of built-in friction and flexibility.
  18. Honestly.. this mostly has nothing to do with the toy? It's the attitude they take to their mistakes. The toy is a relatively easy fix. It's their refusal to admit the mistake and correct it that gets to me, because they had ample time to do so, and stuck to their excuse that it was on purpose. That's shameful as a business practice.
  19. Ok, so the best nonsensical analogy I can come up with here? "I'm sorry we painted your Thunderbird F-16's pilot's helmet gold. We have included a corrected Thunderbirds decal for the helmet, as well as a full set of Blue Angels decals in case you want to completely redo the aircraft in those markings." You know.. ignoring the fact that it's the wrong aircraft. Let's be honest here.. if they actually cared anything about it being correct, the decal sheet should include EVERY modex number, so you can make the whole freaking thing match their dorked up tail marking. Wrong is wrong is wrong. I don't know what sort of boneheaded derailed train of logic led to this mess in the first place, but I want to slap the idiot responsible, and make him individually issue every buyer of this snafu with a personal apology, and a free correctly printed tail. Like, seriously, Bandai... own up to your shite. You screwed the pooch on the first release by reversing the tail, and I don't care if it was on purpose or by accident, you don't make it better by continuing to insist it was on purpose, and then continuing the error so the rest of your products match the failure. Sorry to get heated, but this is the sort of thing that makes me want to punch small animals. We all make mistakes. Bandai is refusing to admit it, and shoving the burden of correcting the error off onto their customers. I assume it's to save face. It's completely ineffective, because they're coming off looking intensely stupid. I'm legitimately pissed off that they can't print a number correctly, and they expect me to clean up their mess.
  20. Glad to report some good news, Big In Japan just sent me a DHL tracker for my Kakizaki.
  21. Same here, 4 for me as well, but I paid for UPS, and even that wasn't enough to convince them to ship. I'm pinging them on a weekly basis for updates, because it's been "shipping in progress" for over a month. If they don't get them shipped before EMS comes back online for the US, I'm considering backcharging the shipping upcharge for UPS via Paypal. I've told them as much, but still no response five weeks later.
  22. Yeah, the subs pushed me over toward buying it. In the end, it felt like a slightly better treatment of the story to me, since the lack of character development wasn't as glaring in the short runtime.
  23. Don't you be dissing that adorable Pengroid mode!
  24. They're not bad kits, I've gotten a few. They do have a simpler transformation than the DX version, but they also have a few very fragile parts that need reinforcement if you're going to be fiddling with them a lot. I would check the discussion in the model section for details. They're not too hard to work with overall, you just might need to glue a few pieces down. No two ways about it though, the 262Ba head is a mess of tiny parts, and not fun to assemble or transform. I have to wonder if the head design is why we never saw a DX version. Here's the post I made about reinforcing the parts in the other thread:
  25. I'm running it, but I also have a 6-month old computer that I basically equipped for the purposes of running DCS in VR, so it's very current. It's impressive what they've accomplished with the terrain detail, but it's also even more impressive how much of a download cap it will eat. At the moment, I'm more involved with the SDK than anything else, since I'm trying to learn how to port both old FSX aircraft, and make new ones. I've gotten a couple of models imported successfully, but the infrastructure change from FSX is nearly total, and it only -barely- supports any legacy aircraft. On the positive side, the sim seems much more friendly to high-polygon models than to massive texture files, so I was able to get this near CGI-level model running pretty smoothly.. just with no textures.. or animations. Unfortunately, the 3rd party development situation is insanely convoluted this time around, because they've implemented the necessary infrastructure for payware developers to sell their wares directly through the in-game marketplace. That's all well and good, but it also adds a massive amount of extra work for the average fiddler who just wants to tweak the existing aircraft, or add little mods for fun. Oh, and from the perspective of accuracy.. if you like general aviation aircraft, Piper Cubs, Cessna 172s and the like, you're in luck, they're pretty well done. Not so much the airliners. Friend of mine who has spent an extensive amount of time learning the full checklists and procedures for flying an A320 in X-Plane was severely disappointed with how cheap the MSFS version is. Sim-wise, the MSFS version vs the X-Plane one is about equivalent to the difference between an Ace Combat game, and DCS. It's just not very detailed or accurate in anything but appearance.
