I'm... not entirely sure what the difference is there? Just the little Focker fish thing?

Got one order coming from Okini Land, and one from AE, so we'll see who gets them in stock first. Either way, I'm not getting ahold of them until after New Years.
-
You should have no trouble snapping it together, and it should come with a multitude of stickers, but like most mecha kits of all genres, glue and paint are going to give you the best result.
-
I actually wonder if the crippling blow to this is going to be it being made of metal. That's going to do them no favors, in either molding, or construction, because the thing is going to be incredibly heavy, and you're not going to get nice molded detail you'd see in a plastic kit. Biggest off-putters for me right off the bat are how chunky and segmented the saucer panels look (especially around the bridge), and how ugly the nacelle shapes are. They look.. well, for lack of a better way to phrase this, they look like hamburgers, and not the good kind.. the kind that someone stepped on to get them to fit into a box. I can see some pretty subtle aztec painting on the hull, so that may turn out better than is clear from the promo, and the idea of getting tons of windows lit up is nice. I just hope they manage to correct some of the bigger issues before it goes to print... assuming that ship hasn't already sailed.

For something that size, I'd probably scrape off the lower smudge with an exacto and call it a day. The main marking doesn't look that badly fudged that it wouldn't pass as normal wear and tear, at least to my eye. I think trying to remove the flaw with alcohol/thinner/some other liquid would be too hard to do without goofing up the rest of the paint in the vicinity.
-
Ouch.. for that much, I would have expected them to actually make the art attractive, and get the nacelles lined up.. and paint the stupid impulse exhausts.. What are they trying to do, give you a large scale Playmates replica? (They do look painted in some pictures at least.) I don't think they understand exactly what they're doing when saying it is "designed to look as much like the onscreen version as possible." Which onscreen version are they talking about? The pictures they have up are already missing some rather important details, or just getting them wrong.. it really doesn't look right at all, the seams are huge and clunky looking, and the shape looks just off.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron, in theaters TBA

I don't know why, but this idea morphed into a very strange crossover with LOTR, picturing Luke and Wedge arguing over kill counts, and after the first Death Star blows, Wedge pipes over the comm: "That still only counts as one!" They definitely did award proportional kill markings in certain cases in some of the later books though, I distinctly remember one of the Wraith squad members getting credit for half a super star destroyer for her role in taking out the shields before the battle even began.- 115 replies

As I recall, I'm not sure just surviving the battle qualified kill markings, since Tycho had a patch on his jacket/uniform, but no kill mark. I'd have to dig mine up to see if they mention Wedge having actual markings for two.- 115 replies

I can't say much for the comics series, because I never read them, but I believe they picked up shortly after ROTJ, with Wedge rebuilding the squadron after the losses taken at Endor. I think the comics give you the story of Tycho Celchu (A-Wing pilot who split off from the group inside the Death Star at Endor) going on an undercover mission on Coruscant that leads to his capture by/rescue from Ysanne Isard, basically the big bad of that timeframe who schemed her way into power. The X-Wing novel series picks up after those events, and you see Wedge on another recruiting drive, leading up to the full invasion/capture of Coruscant, as well as the overarching plan Isard had to poison the planet with a plague to drain their resources and sow general chaos and unrest. The first four books are focused on the Rogues, before they switched authors and gave Wedge Wraith Squadron to manage for three books. The timeframe basically leads directly up to the Thrawn trilogy, with an eighth book picking up right at the end of the third Thrawn book. Those will probably always be my favorite EU books, they're all pretty enjoyable reads, and based heavily on the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter games. Stackpole and Zahn (and Allston too, for his part) worked hand-in-hand throughout their books to keep continuity with the characters they shared, and it shows.- 115 replies

Welp, if that doesn't just piss all over the cornflake factory... Makes the entire teaser a blatant bait and switch for showing the OT gear and ship, too. Was a nice thought while it lasted. Time to dig out my books and pretend it's 1998 again.- 115 replies

Honestly, I think it's going to be very dependent on when they set the story. I think they've basically got three viable options to pursue. A- A post-TROS revival of the squadron, which I don't think anyone actually cares about or would want to see B- A post-Endor story that -might- be excellent, but has the potential to piss off fans of the EU comics and books (either by being a blatant rip-off, or vastly inferior, or both) C- A mid-OT side story about the founding of the squadron after Yavin that could potentially be good as a near-direct follow-up to Rogue One. One way or another, they have to deal with the fact that Denis Lawson is either going to be very old, or recast. If they want to continue the current trend, and focus on post-OT/pre-ST success, I feel like the most likely setting is going to be in the same timeframe as the Mandalorian, which makes the comic/novel series prime material to work with, even if they don't adapt it directly. Would I -want- them to adapt the books? Honestly.. I don't know. I would definitely prefer a Wraith Squadron movie or two, because the tone and characters were so much more fun than The Corran Horn Show. Besides that, I'm not entirely sure how the world at large would react to a story centered around an evil political figurehead manufacturing a plague designed to incite xenophobic chaos.- 115 replies

Yeah, I'm not going to let myself hope for this to be good. Waiting for the bait and switch when the T-65 in the teaser is nowhere to be found. Quite honestly though, I'd rather see a Wraith Squadron movie anyhow.- 115 replies

Oy, that's going to be a big shipment from AE when it happens for me.. I've got a second Roy, the TV supers, and the YF-29 reissue all waiting there. I'll probably wait until some time in January to ship that, and avoid the holiday shipping mess.
-
You want that, yes, but if someone who doesn't care enough to look at it is punching "CENTER" into the computer, that's not going to put the skull where it needs to be. We can fix it ourselves, but I don't really expect Bandai to manually center it where it should be.
-
So, something to keep in mind about that skull, it's not symmetrical, and the skull isn't actually centered in the design. What I suspect has been happening for a long time is that the logo is being centered by its longest and widest dimensions, which are not actually centered, or level. ' The bottom edge of the logo is not level at all, and trying to level it based on that will give you the infamous tilted skull we've had for years. The bones are also not centered on the skull, so printing the logo based on centering it from the widest point will give you just about the same amount of off-centered-ness you see on your Roy.
-
Is Paypal up to a 180 day limit on purchases now? We're still within that window, so they might not have any trouble with it if NY isn't making an effort to send it out.
-
Messed with the cockpit in my Roy a moment, control panel wiggled loose easily, since it wasn't glued, just pressed into place. Should be easy to swap, if someone wants to make a DYRL version out of this one. I don't know if I will, since I'm sure we'll get an official one eventually, and I'm not going to go customizing a pilot I don't need to. I might see if a Hasegawa one will fit temporarily though.
-
Bandai does have a long history of this issue, though, so it really shouldn't surprise anyone. They haven't quite mastered the art of getting wings to cool without curling... despite the model division having all the necessary skills and know-how. Just be glad they moved past the "pulling 10 Gs" wing curl on the VF-25 DX.
-
If I can pry the consoles out of the TV versions, I may very well do so, but I'm more interested in swapping part for part, and just kitbashing a DYRL version out of stock elements. The giant honking sticks on the TV consoles are a grievous eyesore though, and need to go away entirely either way. Don't know if I'd do anything special to the pilot though, other than repainting a spare Kakizaki or something like that.
-
Can agree with that entirely. Since they finally printed the numbers right, this one is lacking what I'm just going to refer to as "Bandai Taint." It's actually done correctly, without Bandai's stupid logic marring the whole thing. While it's not really that visible, just knowing it's done correctly is a nice feeling that you don't have with the previous versions. My AmiAmi order just got dropped at my door, and it's a beauty. If the parts in the cockpits can be coaxed out, I might just mix and match pilots and control panels to just turn one of these into a DYRL and call it a day.
-
Yeah, everyone seems to just be ignoring signature requests for packages at this point. Everything gets left at the door whether it needs a signature or not.... or driven around in circles for three days by FedEx, because that's just how they roll.

I thought someone mentioned the Raven being the size of a B-52? Maybe I misread, but that still sounds like it'll work out to a wingspan of something like 5-6 inches. I don't know what the actual dimensions of the Morgan kit are, but I can't imagine it's that much bigger than the 1/144 VF-31s I have.

Maybe the Infinity version comes with the story intact? If it's supposed to be that big a plane, and it's only that big compared to 1/144 aircraft... I'm guessing it's around 1/400-1/500.

Just got shipping confirmation from AmiAmi, so hopefully that one will get here before the holiday shipping rush. I'm waiting until after New Years for my copy from AE, since I'll wait to ship that until the packs come in.
