Really don't care for that one, but I would probably be in for a Mirage and... wow, I can't even remember his name now.

All thoughts of any sort of background agenda aside, I think they just made a terrible mistake with the direction of the story in this past series. They answered the central question to the entire existence of the series. Whether anyone thinks it was a good or bad answer, they removed the mystery. Full disclosure though, I started with Eccleston, and haven't seen all the way through the Smith episodes. My interest mostly fell off after the arcs with Amy and Rory ended.

The Kai got them too, I remember because that was why I initially scrambled to grab one. The rush relaxed a little once we knew others were going to get them too.

Hah, pretty much yep. I think this is actually the first time I ever actually put together one of the Bandai stands, because this is the first one since the VF-25s that looks almost presentable, just from the base... but the mount is still fugly as hell, so it'll probably go back in the box.
-
Well sure, if you don't use the stand, it doesn't shove the gunpod up that way.
-
I wonder if I just have the mount hooked too deeply under the intakes? No idea.. I'm just going by the solid plate on interior of the stand mount that seems designed to hold directly against the gunpod at that angle. In other annoying news.. anyone know which VF-1 these kite logos are supposed to match? Or maybe they always intended for this to match the VF-1J?
-
Yeah, so the arms WILL NOT tab in and hold the gunpod level. They just flat out don't do it. They are designed to hold it pointed up at the underside of the nose, because BANDAI. You have to bend the arms so they drop entirely free of those pegs before the gunpod will sit level with super packs.
-
Just got in my second Focker and super packs from AE, and.. I gotta say, the "special" stand kind of pisses me off. It's one thing to make your tabbing system sloppy, and misaligned, so you have to bend the arms to get the gunpod level. It's an entirely different problem when you design your display stand to hold the gunpod at the wrong freaking angle. Seriously. I just can't even begin to understand Bandai's designs. Yes, the gunpod is entirely capable of sitting level, if you drop the arms very slightly, and bend them at the elbows, which of course leaves the arms hanging completely below the tabs on the underside of the backplate. The tabs and slots that hold the arms in place with super packs on have enough slop in them that the angle doesn't keep them from locking in place. But, according to Bandai, the gunpod is supposed to be aiming at the underside of the nose.

So.. STD is in-universe self-insert fiction posted on the TOS-era equivalent of DeviantArt or Livejournal? That makes a somewhat baffling amount of sense. It's like someone read "My Immortal" and said "hold my Romulan ale."

I don't know about that, there was at least one instance of proof that the Star Wars universe had physical elevator shafts that you could climb if the elevator went out. "Charlie and the Great Glass Turbolift" even gives the "I just want a railing" scene a run for its money.

Fun fact.. seating the arms fully on the pegs tends to point the gunpod so high Roy shoots himself in the backside. Only way I can get the gunpod lined up is pulling the arms fully off the pegs, and angling them down.

I'm assuming you mean the joint allowing the lower leg to rotate for a good splayed stance, and I do believe some of mine are that way as well. I don't think Bandai has ever quite figured out a good way to make these joints. Worst example was the VF-171, where the entire leg rotated on a hollow plastic pin around a metal spring pin.

Boy do I ever wish Hasegawa would get on with it, and make a matching YF-21.
-
Not of that one, but I think the majority of the YF-29 markings are just stock SMS logos or other generic markings, so you could probably use VF-25 decals. If given the option, I'd try and grab a set of Hasegawa decals, rather than anything made by Bandai.
-
That's what I wound up doing for my 1/72 VF-25F, though I did it all by hand because I'm crazy that way. Red paint was a bit of a pain, but the stripes weren't too hard to mask off.
-
Definitely the 1/100 Bandai kit, and yes, the stickers for those little suckers are miserable... but keep in mind, the waterslides Bandai included on their 1/72 VF-25s weren't really any better. Being entirely honest, I bought a bunch of those 1/100 VF-25 and YF-29 kits (they were about $6 at the time, don't know what they are now), but I have absolutely zero intention of using any of the included stickers for any of them. Those kits are all going to get alternate paint schemes, either real life squadrons, or possibly customs based on stuff from the Master File.

I haven't watched any of it, but I'm actually starting to plan out a fun way to mod the Disco-prise into a sort of "pre-fit" design, going directly between the TOS and TMP versions. Ditch the weird transparent bridge and put something more like the TOS design, fill in the nacelle pylons, and give it TMP-style decals and aztec markings.

OHO I was waiting for a VF-84 classic! Thanks for the heads-up! -
Don't give two shakes if this is "non-canon," it's gorgeous. And it's not like it hasn't been done before...
-
Yeah, those boxes are huge. I believe I have four or five complete 1/48 VF-1 kits in one of those, with all the associated missiles and super/strike packs packed into a second one.

I picked up an HP Reverb almost entirely for DCS, and have been piecing together bits to build a VR-focused cockpit. The Hornet and Tomcat packs have been amazing, and I need to actually get to designing the pit and cutting boards this year. -

Glad to hear the HOTAS market has normalized a little, this past year has been utterly bonkers.. everything has been inflated to almost double retail this year. Apparently no one was prepared for the surge of demand when MSFS came out. -

So, if you have a weathered Roy already, using the black would give you flexibility to use the packs on either one, but otherwise, I'd probably go with blue. -
Eh, it's mostly because I don't use a credit card for almost anything, since I prefer not having the temptation of buying things I can't pay for right at that moment (though there have been a few big exceptions). Either way though, if you just got the refund today, that does sound like things are just running slow. My account didn't even show the charge for From Japan until the 28th, when it was placed on the 23rd. I have the receipt of the transaction with Paypal, so I have an easy route to trace it if it doesn't appear soon.

Question for anyone who tried to order the VF-1D from From Japan, and got a cancellation. How long did it take for the funds to return to you? I got a receipt for a Paypal refund, but I haven't seen the funds reach my account yet. I'm not too worried, because the actual charge only appeared on my account a couple of days ago, so looks like there's a delay, but I was wondering if anyone else saw this.
