Don't know what the name for the ship scheme might be, but for aircraft, you're probably thinking of one of the "Ferris" schemes? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Ferris I didn't realize this, since I've only ever seen his name attached to the jagged zig-zag gray pattern, but according to this page, he developed several other aircraft paint techniques, including the false underside canopy.

Possibly, but it definitely looks like the other figures you usually see of her. I think it's exacerbated by the fact that the character isn't quite adult Klan, it's more like a hybrid macronized version, somewhere between her tween-looking miclone, and the full adult. I don't remember how old she was in the series, but it seemed to imply that she'd grown up along with Michael.. which is rather at odds with how old she looked in full adult form, but that might be an artifact of the fact that she was just full-blooded Zentraedi.

I mean.. aside from the fact that that's basically how big she was in the series (or at least how big they always portray her in merchandise)

What in the hell is Bandai smoking? Did someone from the factory screw up and decide those parts needed to be glued, and then they just conveniently "forgot" that they intended them to open? Like.. I suspected this was the case all along, because there's a lipped edge on the foot-end of the packs, and conspicuous tab on the narrow end that looks like it holds the parts together. I have lost my ability to even. Edit- I'm not going to destroy my packs trying to do that, but I do have to wonder if they got complaints from Arcadia about copying something, and quietly swept the issue under the rug by just gluing everything. It's stupid, but entirely fitting with the way they behave when confronted with a mistake.

Ok, hold onto that one in mint condition, because that's a little piece of ironic history right there. -

Ok, yeah that would just be huge. If the ship in 1/72 is 19 inches long, that puts 1/18 at a little over 6 feet. That's bigger than the ESB film model. -

That F-16 has issues though.. that's.. like a cartoon SD version. Reminds me a little of that old GI Joe toy with the flip-down handle that projected targets on the wall. The other three don't look bad, but seriously, when is someone going to just put Silverbolt out of his misery, and use an XB-70 as the alt mode? Every single freaking Silverbolt I've ever seen has been an utter disaster of a robot that turns into a box strapped to an airplane that folds up into a different box. It's like hanging two different pictures on either side of a revolving wall.- 9275 replies

So, the first thing that comes to my mind there is "Can we somehow get that into DCS?"

It's looking more like the money Takara paid Boeing was damages for defacing their product, rather than an actual license. I think that underside shot actually states more about their approach to this product than any other angle. How "finished" are they calling this? Because I don't think I've ever seen any "MP" figures with that much hollow space where they just flat out didn't mold anything.- 17117 replies

Got it thanks, I hadn't seen that one. Still curious whether the chest will drag, but that's one view they probably aren't going to show us.- 17117 replies

I'm guessing from the view of the underside, where there does seem to be a multi-layered hinge and door just ahead of the chest box, but I don't see any way for landing gear to actually fold out. It's possible the prototype just doesn't have the secondary gear door that opens sideways yet, or that they're going to fold the wheels straight out of the chest box instead. You're right, it does seem crazy that they wouldn't at least include some kind of gear for it. The lower legs certainly look like they have some sort of panel for it.- 17117 replies

You're right, I guess I misread what you were saying about it not looking any worse than MP-11... though for me, I think it absolutely looks a lot worse, from nearly every angle. Being able to see the hands and head from directly underneath on the MP-3/MP-11 molds has never bothered me, because they only appear from one angle that is usually masked by the shelf the plane is sitting on, or my hand if I'm holding it. I don't consider anything that's fitting flush within the confines of the alt mode's shape to be "hanging out." Compared to the giant hulking tumor of a spare robot chest box under this one that's visible from every angle except directly above... yeah, I can't say this new one isn't a whole lot worse in nearly every way. As far as being toon accurate.. I don't see that beer gut here. And just to be clear here, we're talking about what looks like another full thickness of the entire aircraft body hanging underneath. The perspective makes it hard to estimate, but I question whether the nose landing gear are even going to reach the ground on this. Obviously that's rough, but that red through-line isn't even at the lowest part of the chest box, it's just using that blocky vent as a reference point because it's a clear shape, and it still looks just as deep as the entire jet intake. Edit: Correction.. we won't have to worry about the landing gear not reaching the ground, because it looks like they didn't include any this time. What I thought was the gear door is just part of the fuselage folding mechanism. So... problem solved, I guess? Not going to begrudge anyone liking the compromises it makes for a better bot, and I can't say the robot isn't beautiful, but personally, I would rather buy a cheaper non-transforming action figure of that Starscream and display him next to a model F-15 instead, and just avoid all of the ugly compromises on both ends.- 17117 replies

Top Gun: Maverick (Top Gun 2 is comin)
Chronocidal replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not a bad piece of nostalgia, but the markings in the movie really weren't anything that flashy or impressive to me. Colors seem a bit too darkened, but maybe it's just the lighting. Nice that they included the camera pod though. Really though, CW needs to ditch their stupid packing with the gear mounted. Every time I've gotten one of those releases, it's resulted in the gear being broken in shipping. Their earlier releases with everything packaged separately just work so much better. -

I'm just gonna go out and say it. When you take an airplane that is literally a box with wings, and then you STILL have to add box of robot parts UNDER THE FIRST BOX, you have FAILED at engineering. From the top, yeah, it looks like an F-15. They've never had trouble with that. They just decided to make it look ducking fugly from every other possible angle this time. You say it improves on MP-11? MP-11 didn't have a bellytank's worth of extra robot chest kibble just hanging around under the nose section. For all their flaws, the MP-3 and MP-11 molds were flat underneath. This just looks like the F-15's about to give birth.- 17117 replies

Aside from that judge deserving to be tarred and feathered for such a bizarrely inept and delusional decision, I'm checked out of Trek enough at this point that I'm just back to enjoying the parts I enjoy, with the occasional popcorn munching session as I watch more cars of the train catch fire. Doesn't make me feel any better for the guy who may have gotten steamrolled into bankruptcy by CBS though. As funny as the ratings are at first glance, I'm not putting much weight behind them, because they're really mostly irrelevant after this long.

I'm in no real rush to see this one happen, because I want it to be brought up to the same level as the YF-19 before I pull the trigger on one. The prototype they had just didn't look right.

I think the most stinging fact here is that it couldn't even outperform gameshows. It scored slightly lower than a re-run of "The Masked Singer."

Oh, it definitely is useful for that, it's condensing down larger quotes, which is a great feature. I just don't know if there's somewhere to edit that "true" tag, and thought it was amusing. Really nothing needs to be changed, since it functions just fine, but yes, it's probably a missing label somewhere.

One little note about the rear landing gear, I actually had a rather coincidental piece of plastic become available as I was working on them.. the clip tab on a ball point pen broke, and I was able to slide it under the wheels to use as a lever. After a few times pulling the struts in and out, I can get them out with my fingers now without much trouble, just using the little square nubs on the struts. It's still a delicate thing, since it would be easy to chip a fingernail, but they open without too much force.

Also, the tip should probably be something like an optical seeker head, like a Sidewinder or Maverick. Disappointing that the only VF-1 that I can remember actually showing these missiles in their full detail was that fugly Prime1 statue.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ugh.. all I really want them to make is a renewed 3.75" X-Wing and Vader Tie fighter.. maybe a better Y-Wing while they're at it. The redone Ties were so good, they just outshine everything else now. -
So, I don't know if this is just a weird syntax thing, but when viewing posts that hide images, instead of showing something like "Show Content" it does this: I figure it's just a raw "true/false" tag on whether to show it, but it just looked awkward when I first saw it. I haven't looked at any spoiler tags to see if it does a similar thing with those.

Yeah, Bandai built this supply and demand disaster brick-by-brick with their TWE processes for years. "Wait, you mean every pilot doesn't get unique missiles and weapons packs specific to their own plane? But everyone in gundams gets those!" "We could just do multiple rel-" "HELL NO, we have a rarity policy to uphold to keep demand up! I don't care if every plane uses the same parts, we can't change our 'never release them again' policy just for some two-bit non-Gundam property. The customers will just have to deal with it."
-
Except, the TV fast packs do have the reaction missiles included, as I recall, with the tips painted red.

My dual order just showed up from Anime Export finally, their courier wasn't too bad, but did take a couple weeks to ship. I waited for a Kakizaki to arrive, and shipped that together with a pair of VF-1 missile sets, and the two Legioss, so the box was a bit cramped. They didn't pad it badly, but the Legioss boxes got a little crumpled on the corners and edges from the tight packing. Both arrived in fine shape though. First impression.. Riobot saw Bandai's Sv-262, and said "hold my beer." This thing is a complex mess of tiny parts, and I do wish it was bigger, but it functions very well. Ankles are a bit loose, but seems to stand up decently anyhow. Overall it's really pretty, and definitely satisfies that promise I made myself to finally pick up a Legioss if anyone ever managed to nail the proportions.
