The Orange cat and Moderoid kits look entertaining. I like the redesign kits from Orange cat, but the sculpt on the Moderoid looks great for sticking to the anime

I could care less about the others, but I may have to get that Ryu Hyabusa

Don’t forget the shipping. Just about $1000.00 for a set of six inch figures. It’s tough because even with picking and choosing, these individually are still too expensive. They look great though, and I’m trying to tell myself that I don’t need any of them because I got most of them for a fraction of the price and twice the size

Honestly, I skipped it because I hadn’t heard any praise for the film. Only complaints that it was too long and not focused on the right things for being so long.

I figured that’s what was going on and why I posted the pic. Hasegawa wasn’t going for a perfect anime look when they started doing the VF-1 kits. They were more of a real world model company at the time and tried taking real world aesthetics to the subject. Not saying it’s a bad choice, just a different take on the subject. When they decided to do a battroid kit, they decided to try and keep things consistent rather than anime accurate. The line art has very different proportions that don’t work for a full transformation. thick legs and arms, stubbier intakes and other details in the battroid that don’t match the fighter. That’s why there are so many compromises in transforming vf-1 toys, like super thin legs or arms and other details changed to make the toys work. And that’s not always bad either, just a compromise to make things work. Max Factory decided not to do transforming or even parts forming on their kits and also decided that things didn’t have to be consistent with their fighter kit, so to those that are used to newer toys and kits, these Battroid kits will probably appear a bit too thick or chunky. It’s just what people have been seeing for so many years that that’s the way it may appear to people.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
Big s replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I didn’t really dislike Unicorn until it started getting towards the end. I actually had hope things were going somewhere and everything just felt more and more pointless as it went on. The stupid box everyone was fighting for didn’t even seem like anything worth all the trouble. Narrative just didn’t seem to have a glimmer of hope from the start. No characters to care about and the mobile suits were all just the same stuff we just saw.- 3995 replies

It just feels weird and more of a toy commercial than anything before. The story felt slapped together as well. It’s like if Unicorn was the first film of the Star Wars sequels where there was promise of something great with great visuals, but a little lacking in other spots and Narrative was hopefully the last because it was a jumbled mess. It also just adds to the mess of the universal century that I feel I was better off without seeing. I love the designs from the unicorn era of stuff mostly, but really hate it story wise- 3995 replies

I had a Cait Sith figure, but can’t remember if it was from the original game line or one of the other ff7 lines they had going. gotta agree about the prices. I may get Vincent and Cid, but the whole line is gonna be way way too expensive

1D is cool, but I’m still waiting for the 1A to go with the Max/ Kakizaki fighters

I do have to agree about Toy Story 2 and 3. But that’s definitely from a different era and management of Pixar

I’m still wondering if Bandai will do an hg vf-1. I don’t remember if I mentioned it here or in another thread, but I’d probably really like it, but would probably be absolutely frustrated with trying to obtain three so I could have one for each mode like I did with the YF-19 and YF-21
-
I don’t have them next to each other, but by memory they are pretty close to the same length. The hmr may be slightly longer, but oddly the tv pilot is almost the same size

I personally love the slightly more realistic and smaller ones like the mecha from Front Missions Megazone 23 and Votoms. I kinda feel that if military mecha were to actually exist, it would be much smaller than a Mobile Suit from Gundam. I also tend to be a fan of power armor, like the Nue design for Starship Troopers or Ma K. But I do like when something seems a bit justified like Macross to be able to kick a giant in the nuts I don’t hate the fantasy stuff though, but I do like the ones that feel a bit more real personally

The way things are going with Hasbro, it’s actually a pretty good possibility. They laid off quite a few workers and many of their usual toys from kids to collectors have been handled by other companies. I was recently and probably annoyingly complaining about their cheap D&D toys for the cartoon and all of a sudden, Super 7 is doing some that look better and will probably have far better packaging. Other companies like Mcfarlane are doing odd page punchers for GI Joe and Transformers. And these are only a few that are putting out stuff for them. Hasbro may take a good look at what Ramen is doing. They haven’t tried to stop them and that could be a sign

Recently Hasbro has become more of an overall entertainment company with seemingly higher interests in films and games. They’ve been outsourcing a lot of their toy brands to other companies lately

Macross is definitely a kids show. We basically call teenagers kids all the time, but they don’t get referred to as children. And I feel that Macross definitely wouldn’t be classified as a childrens show. 99.9 percent of all anime is designed for kids and there are a few rarities that truly are for adults. Visually more are for adults, but the stories are mostly still kids stories. It’s also not a bad thing to be a kids show and shouldn’t be an insult. As far as my thoughts on Dyrl, I love it. I don’t love it as much as the show though, but I still love it. The story is definitely too rushed and things make more sense with being able to see the series first. I absolutely love the animation and think it holds up really well today. Even though I love the Queadluun Rau in the series more, the enemy mecha has a more interesting thing going on with the biomechanics that make them feel more alien. It wasn’t until the recent Hasegawa kit of the Queadluun Rau that I started to realize how much of the designs were so biomechanic. The other thing that I was looking at were many poses in artwork that I didn’t even notice until I was trying to see certain shapes and how much I feel like I’m still discovering rewatching scenes from the movie. There’s also a certain sense of danger in a lot of the scenes. There were some great scenes in the series, but I feel like there was more tension. Overall, I still enjoy the series more than the film and if I knew a younger person that enjoys seeing some older shows or movies, then I would recommend it to them. There are a lot of young kids that do enjoy older stuff, even if most might not be too interested.

General (1/12, 1/18, 1/24 Scale) Action Figures Thread
Big s replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That’s pretty wild for 1/24. Seems they packed a lot of action into a super small figure -
The kit looks pretty good. It’s in my backlog, but for those that just like to snap it up, there’s a lot of pre painted parts. and for those that are used to doing a bit more the seams seem to be in mostly simple spots and repainting those areas doesn’t look too difficult since most of them are marked either by raised or recessed plastic. I couldn’t help cutting the tape and tearing away the tissue paper to check out the parts

I’m really curious about how things are gonna go. Here in C.A. we’re supposed to have only electric vehicles sold brand new in just a little over a decade. I’ve seen a more and more places slowly adding charging stations like malls and some work places. A lot of people currently have electric vehicles, but most still have gas and hybrids. I think the biggest fear for people is the battery charge on the vehicles. I moved to Crestline and when I’ve talked to people about them they’re very hesitant up here. There’s a lot of stories about how the batteries have charging issues during winter weather and it does get pretty cold up here occasionally. Others are worried the infrastructure won’t be set up fully in a decade. It’s definitely going to get interesting for better or worse
