David Hingtgen replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
GundamInfo just dropped all of Turn A, subbed, on their channel. Was this announced before and I missed it? I know what I'm doing this weekend...- 3888 replies

It's there, they just didn't paint it to match the molded-in detail. Look carefully at the blue plastic, right in front of the grey tip of the canopy...

HMR Macross Zero VF-0A Shin Kudo Use + QF2200D-B Ghost
David Hingtgen replied to sh9000's topic in Toys
The modex numbers on the ventral fins look backwards (again). They'd read "113" (or IIE, really) in fighter mode... Rather than fix it, Bandai will just issue "113" tailfins down the line... And it's not even a mirroring thing---it looks wrong on every side of every fin.- 206 replies

VF-25: Since the shoulder armor is so hard to remove, I just left the joint assembled, and poured nail polish inside as best I could. Several times, with the arm in different positions so it'd flow to different areas. Though if I were to do it again, I'd use Future. (nail polish is "hot" enough that it reacts with the plastic part of the ball-joint socket, and it dissolved a small amount of material at the edge).

I also notice that the Pontiac arrrowhead recess on the wheels is quite prominent, I think it should be toned down a lot.

Absolutely---that's why I'm keeping my retro one and (trying) to sell my SDCC one. The retro looks better IMHO. I painted a few small extra details on the retro and the details really pop. (like the flames on his boots, and studded belt)- 1113 replies

Was the decision to have a Crossfield/Discovery-esque saucer-look an idea from higher-up, or were you guys given fairly free-rein? (it was mentioned in dialogue, so I wondered which was first)- 514 replies

The 1/12 KITT has the same problem every light-up car has nowadays: Cheap "white" LED's for the headlights, that give a cool-blue effect. Obviously wrong for any 70's/80's car. They need to use warm-white/golden-white LED's to mimic the incandescent/halogen look. There's tons of LEDs designed just for that purpose, but very few companies use them. They cost like, 3 cents more... Sure, older toys with small bulbs were dim, and burned out easily---but the color was right. And nowadays we do have readily-available LED's that are bright and long-lasting AND the right color---but it seems so few companies are aware or care about "the right look".

Is SDCC Zartan not actually in very much demand? His price is high on ebay, but nobody seems interested in mine. (and I'm not asking ebay prices for it!) Whereas my extra Eel was snapped up in an instant.- 1113 replies

The computer and electronics super geek thread
David Hingtgen replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have decided to "rearrange/reinstall" everything" and buy a new larger 970 EVO as my boot drive, and put like half my storage on it as well. (mobo can't do gen4 PCI so little point in a 980) -

I have considered that----buying a new SATA drive to become my storage drive, and using my current storage drive (M.2 970) as OS. Hmmm. I'd probably be buying a 1 or 2 TB Sata 870 either way... (available locally) ::edit:: Hmmmn, PNY CS900 is also locally available and cheap. If only being used for storage... -

Suggestions for a new SSD as my OS drive? Currently have a 960 EVO , 250GB. Definitely want 500, maybe 1TB if not too much more money. I see that Best Buy has 870's cheap, but "SSD specs" are hard to parse--is it an upgrade or a downgrade? 70 vs 60, vs 800/900, evo vs regular/pro... Vs a flagship 990 Pro or something ::edit:: Gah, mobo only has 1 M.2 slot and it's being used by the storage drive---I don't think there's a SATA version of the 990. So the question really is---for those of us stuck using SATA, best bang for the buck SSD? -

Speaking of SDCC, anyone interested in my SDCC Zartan? I actually prefer the Walmart retro version, and I don't need two. (he's only been in the fridge like twice!---but that means I can confirm the color-change works)- 1113 replies

I ended up buying a 3060 12GB, and have spent the past couple days trying/tweaking settings in programs to try to dial in "perfection". (I am pretty obsessive with getting my PC to run as best it possibly can). If anyone's interested a used but mint 1080 FTW2, let me know. -

Decided it's definitely time to upgrade my GPU---anyone have one for sale? I currently have a pre-COVID 1080, so most anything would be an upgrade. Or I may just buy say a 3060 12gb new, locally, so I could enjoy it over the 3-day weekend... -
New Macross Animation Announced, to be animated by Sunrise
David Hingtgen replied to seti88's topic in Movies and TV Series
Build Fighters actually was fun though. (early on when it was basically a ton of homages, the later iterations got worse) -
Props for painting the chin grey. (and the white ankle-discs)

Even better than a -3000, a -3000B. Let's see an old relic still in use. If the USAF is going to use B-52's through 2040+ (When M+ happens!) then there should be at least a few big old bomber valks still around in the Frontier/Delta era. -
No easy way to open the shoulder any meaningful amount, my suggestion is just to put lots of thickener/joint stiffener in during multiple sessions and try letting it sit in different positions while drying to wick/flow its way around inside. *don't use nail polish, the plastic tip on the ball reacts.

The stripes (and parts themselves) don't line up across the various panels as well as previous releases, (and one spot they actually made a change that is simply wrong) so I've been doing my best to try to improve the paint:

Thanks much.
