You know, if they do Dr Brahms, they could easily re-tool for Captain Benteen. Might be enough to make producing her worthwhile.

The new Deluxe Prime is the first I'll buy in years. ROUND FUEL TANKS. Makes truck mode 10x better. I really, really hate the 'flat' tanks so prevalent nowadays---so unrealistic and clearly "not how a transforming Freightliner would look". Look at how simply and elegantly the Netflix one dealt with "round tanks as a truck, but not as a robot".- 17107 replies

Macross Plus Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Release Thread
David Hingtgen replied to sh9000's topic in Movies and TV Series
Reminds me of the days of multi-disc CD games, where you needed to have a pile of spare cases, because the discs were nearly impossible to get back in safely/scratch-free from whatever they had rigged up to hold them inside at the factory "that wasn't anything like the normal way"---because it was panic-inducing just getting them out the first time. (that, and when it was trendy to make the part actually holding the disc clear--which meant half the teeth would shatter within the first 1 or 2 uses due to brittleness)- 222 replies

If you're gonna repaint it, fix the inverted chest stripes while you're at it... (the #1 reason I don't own the DX -19, might be the chest stripes--bug the HECK out of me)

Flightsuit Makina? Moderately interested, if not SD. (though something like that would be totally out of their normal range I think). Sv-262 with drones? Much more their thing, if not SD/eggplane.

Is it possible that they simply don't currently offer the particular metal that was originally used? I see quite a few metal options overall still, so surely some parts they allow in metal? (thinking maybe it's time I try the mod on mine, too---I remember the thread/mod from back when, but was too chicken to try opening the wings up). But after years of "being mildly irritated by them", maybe it's time to go for it. And if it breaks---same as Graham, an excuse to get the PF version...

I would need to mix so many elements from different -19's over the years to create the "perfect" YF-19 toy... Every once in a while, I consider a newer -19, and keep waffling over "is Bandai's really better OVERALL?" "What aspects are truly most important to me?" And then I end up just sticking with my first-batch Arcadia, with its loose wing hinges...

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
David Hingtgen replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
So, trying to find every moment we see a fold booster in Frontier thanks to the above posts, I'm trying to nail down the color----when we see the one being mounted on Michael's -25G, it looks quite red---not PURE red like Hikaru/Alto red stripes, but pretty red. But pretty much every other appearance of that model (mainly on Brera's), it looks more "coral" in coloring. I don't think it's an intentional change, just "inconsistency". "By numbers" it appears coral way more often than it appears red---but "by quality"---we see it clear, well-lit, and well-animated up close when it's red---we never get a *really* good look while it's on Brera's. Always in the background, or obscured by the -27's afterburners, at night, etc. Thoughts on the 'real' color of that model of fold booster? (all I know for sure is that it's not mauve, like the Bandai DX rendition of it) -
Yeah, don't buy PC parts from Amazon, they don't check at all---I've gotten "new" parts with brown dirt and crud on them...

Oh wow, I was wondering who was necro'ing the thread this many years later! Having watched pretty much every "main" fansub of Frontier at the time, I'm certain I've seen your work, and greatly appreciate it---I still hold Frontier as the the best series in the franchise, and the availability+quality+speed of the subs back in the day certainly helped----it was the first anime I ever watched where it was "only slightly after the original broadcast" and the sense of community of "we all watched the show together" was like nothing this forum had had before.

Trying to avoid freeze-framing the entire series to check and not trusting my memory: Did we ever actually see a VF-27 using the fold booster? -

I was very interested in retro Gears until I saw it was $25, and also remembered that mold's alt-mode. $25 is a lot for a minibot that I don't like what it turns into. (despite being a moderately big Gears fan). Still, cheaper than 3P...- 17107 replies

Still been waiting a QUARTER-CENTURY for a VFX-2 Ravens colors one: (only ever got to play the demo in the US, but it was fun while it lasted----and the -11 was the main valk on the demo disc)
-
Yeah, I would like super parts, but not going to buy Brera's just for them (and they don't match anyways). Waited years hoping just maybe they'd make them a Tamashii exclusive or something... I at least have the fold booster from the original, so I can attach "something" extra.

DX VF-31J Super Siegfried (Hayate Immelmann Use) Revival Version
David Hingtgen replied to sh9000's topic in Toys
"the glitter on the electromagnetic shield of the canopy is thinner" ---tempted to get one just to swap out the canopy on Mirage's, hers is the most opaque of all. Maybe if it gets super cheap some day... -
After 7(?) years, decided to finally get the newer version of Grace's valk: (they don't show up often---saw two this year, which is very unusual---took it as a sign)

Hi-Metal R Fire Bomber (VF-19 Fire Valkyrie, VF-11 MAXL, VF-17T)
David Hingtgen replied to sh9000's topic in Toys
Macross 30's "use, and lack of use" by Bandai is so weird----they made the YF-30 itself, but none of its AWESOME repaints in the game to get any use out of the mold. But they made -29 repaints. But not Mei's awesome white+purple -27...- 329 replies

I'm gonna need a UN kite stand (or two) and a DX base adapter. My -31 has only ever been on the Bandai stand (which looks terrible).

A non-PF VF-0D, using plastic colors similar to the HMR VF-0D, would be insta-bought... (as in, a VF-0D in the right colors, but without having to pay hundreds of extra dollars just to get those correct base colors)
