Anywhere I can find yamato vf-1 shoulder hinge replacements?
rsvictor1976 replied to Faizen's topic in Toys
Go to this subreddit r/3Dprintmything and post a request to get your shoulder hinge replaced. I did this five months ago over the Summer and got a reply almost instantly from several people near me that was willing to print and mail me the shoulders I needed. Depending on your location, the price can vary, but I was quoted anywhere from $8 to $12 and that included shipping. I recommend choosing 2-3 different people to make you a pair of shoulders as you can't tell the quality of the printed shoulder until you received them and just choose the one that looks best to you. -

Yeah, that too... Although I'm not really one to dwell on the unrealized value of any toy in my collection. And if I ever do sell anything, I just look to possibly get back what I originally spent and I would just as quickly spend the proceeds to buy something new to add to the collection. I've never really been a Max guy and back then I had to choose between keeping my 2 1D trainers (one in F-mode or Gerwalk and the other permanently in battroid with those seat accessories), which, to this day, is my favorite VF-1 variant... or give one up and keep the Virgin Road. But if 3Zero decides to make one, then all will be right in the world. IF I did have any kind of foresight back then, I would have invested in something, other than toys, that would make me filthy rich now โ๏ธ ... and a Merry Christmas to everyone here on MW

My shapeways plastic shoulders are still fine after 10+ years. Heavier metal replacement could stress the connecting plastic part or sag in gerwalk/battroid positions due to weight. edit: metal would also require more precise sizing for the metal rod.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
I suppose so! Of course, when I think of "super robots" I tend to fall back on how Japan likes to define the term. A super robot is in the most stringently literal sense a robot that is functionally the same as a comic book superhero. A larger-than-life figure that gets its power from unexplainable or unscientific sources, is impossible (or nearly impossible) to duplicate, is the Last Line of Defense against some evil that the military just can't handle despite being piloted by some random civilian, requires a lot of flamboyant posing and Calling Your Attacks, manifests new powers or weapons as the plot demands, and responds to the operator's heroic willpower or some other special quality in a way that causes it to exceed its specs, and exists to fight Evil in a fairly straightforward Good vs Evil-type narrative. Gundam doesn't usually indulge in those tropes. There are a few titles that flirt with some super robot-adjacent tropes like Gundam Wing having each Gundam be made by a single genius scientist working alone, or G-Reco and G-Witch having a Gundam that can only be piloted by a specific person... but those are usually paired with extensive subversions of the rest. IMO, the main sign of super robot "DNA" in the OG Gundam series was the Gundam's garish paintjob that Tomino so bitterly opposed. Macross's creators were even more gung-ho about realism, which is why they went to the trouble/effort of ensuring the designs included things like aerodynamic control surfaces, the feed systems for bullets, and how the powertrain actually worked to drive a walking robot. (And of course they put a lot of that same energy into GUNSIGHT, which provided an ex-post-facto explanation for same for Gundam.) -
Would anyone know if 3d printing the stl file in metal is ideal? Or would it just not work with the way the part is designed?

Your interpretation of plot elements is different than mine. -
I had a feeling that it might be something like that.

I 100% agree with this, but I think M2 crosses into being too "safe" of a sequel to the original Macross, to the point where I used to joke its Lovers Again subtitle should've been Do You Remember Love, Again instead. It's similar to how a lot of people complained that The Force Awakens was too similar to the 1977 Star Wars. As such, I have incredibly mixed feelings about M2. I end up enjoying it while feeling disappointed at the same time. It hits the beats of its predecessors, but doesn't execute as well. But to each his own... M+, on the other hand, is more of an 80s/90s sci-fi that appropriately feels like a side series. I think it's great exactly as is, but I often wonder if I'd enjoy it more if it was more detached from the OG Macross series. I'm guessing as a teen (when I first saw M+), I appreciated the references, but now it's less clear to me.

On the twitter page they reference the Arii kit's caution type decals, which has this (for the VF-1J)..so it only makes sense to include one of the nose-art inspired art pieces

General Sci-fi designs across various media
M'Kyuun replied to M'Kyuun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Another designer I'd like to highlight is Junji Okubo, better known as Izmojuki. He became known to me via his myriad 'vertical tank' designs for the 2002 Steel Battalion XBox game. I've never played the game, sadly, but I've been in awe of the designs since, so much so that I use them as my wallpaper on my PC to this day. Sadly, only a few of his designs were ever translated into toy or model form and I never managed to pick any of them up. I'd likely be in for a few if Moderoid ever turned their sights towards doing them. I love the heavy realistic industrial aesthetic he applies to his mecha designs. Just beautiful! -
Have to blame me for that! I type faster than my seemingly dyslexic fingers can manage. And clearly a Freudian slip!

The Mugen Caliber is one that you can purchase stateside, but pretty sure Harmony Gold is blocking the Mospeada Kits since they seem to only be available from Japan and itโs been a while since their preorders went up.
