  2. I guess another example that predates the Mouse acquisitions would be the alien movies. I liked the first and second films, but the third movie kinda diminished my enjoyment of the second film. Knowing that everything was for nothing kinda made it less ent for me. I took a few years and try my best to pretend that they didn’t just ruin the ending to one of the greatest sequels of all time
  3. Let's Play's fifth episode is out. I know the original author's from Kansas City, but could she at least have done a little location research before setting a series in LA. I can tell I'm getting old and cynical because this has the sitcom apartment problem and my first reaction was "There is no way in hell a barista can afford an apartment that big or that nice in downtown." Sadly, the character drama was flat enough to calibrate laser levels. 🙃
  4. Responding, too, to @mechaninac and @Big s's posts, sequels generally don't erode the enjoyment I feel for the original films. Tron, of course, looks dated; that's an inescapable fact, but it's also part of its charm and I'm not bothered by it. Same goes for many 80s movies oozing with practical effects, many of which don't look so great to the modern eye. Perhaps I've a greater tolerance than most, but I can still enjoy a lot of pre-CG sci-fi and horror films (Tron takes the prize for being one of the first heavy-CG films from the 80s, along with The Last Starfighter). I have a great deal of respect for the practical effects artists that conjured up ways to make writers' and directors' words and visions come to fruition in a tangible fashion for filming. It's becoming a rarer art these days, but there are still directors who choose to use practical effects over CG whenever possible, and I think it makes a difference when seeing a real model as opposed to a CG creation, be it a ship, a creature, a miniature cityscape, what have you. Anyway, I hope someday you'll find your way back to the OG films without the bitterness of whatever company, director, studio, etc has done to sour your view of them and simply enjoy them for their merits.
  5. Well, people are willing to fork out $400+ for an SDF-1 which is half the size. Something for everyone
  6. Here’s another odd line art pic where it’s kinda between the two. The intake looks more like the hasegawa, but then the arm armor is much longer up to the shoulder
  7. I don't collect these-yet-but I have to say the amount of articulation and the sheer detail that Dr. Wu accomplished with this tiny figure is extraordinary. I'm far more into his cassettes, of which I hope there are many more, especially the main characters like Rumble Ravage, Laserbeak, etc. However, as you pointed out, this shows improvement over earlier figs and hopefully he'll revisit some of those earlier attempts with refined versions. Always a bit of a bummer when you're collecting a line and one toy really kinda stands out, like Star Shuttle, and your left feeling disappointed and wondering why the same attention and care isn't given to every single toy. That said, at that scale, a lot can be forgiven and I think Wu's still doing a good job on these guys overall. Bring on the Datsuns! I preordered Prowl and Kickback tonight, as I'm a sucker for Prowl, and the thought of having a toy that tiny that still transforms and has a fair bit of articulation is worth picking up. I'm still enamored with Newage's take, which is pretty small, but it'll positively dwarf Dr. Wu's.
  8. I'm much more interested in those than the Fire Valk.. so we'll see if Bandai actually bothers to follow through on completing the rest of the main valks. I guess it's fortunate that the VF-19P can just use the same mold, since that's probably the one I'm most interested in overall, but I really want to see how Bandai's overall shape compares with the Blazers. So far from what I'm seeing, I'm liking what the different nose and intake profile are doing for the fighter mode.
  9. I see HLJ is once again using 30% as the duty rate. They are just dying to lose all their US customer business.
  10. for US destination. here's HLJ's tariff-rape and shipping-rape fees for each option: ecms: 23,517y fedex (current 5% discount): 29,336y dhl: 34.500y sheesh!!! ☠️
  11. Wonder if this will drive up the prices of the Yamato Emerald series valks...sort of like when the DX YF-19 was out, the Yamato YF-21s were in the market for $500+ (obviously not any more!) https://anymoon.com/blog/?p=4769
  12. ooof....it aint going anywhere until April for me. When you get shipping quotes please post a few! On a side vector, on the previous page there is a neat famous pic of the sdf-1 That cel is up for sale on YJ, and it is BEAT. Super sad to see it in this poor condition. https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t1205668217
  13. The set…
  14. Mini-Review. It's largely a Yamcadia VF-19. It has several of the upgrade/gimmicks you'd expect from Bandai and it also has missing/worse features because Bandai can never just do something correct the first time. For instance, upgraded ankles have better range/articulation, but not as much as the YF-19. However, for some reason the joint at the intake doesn't have the same range of motion as the YF-19. It has the more limited range of the Yamcadia. So it poses slightly better in Gerwalk than the previous VF-19... but only slightly so, and the older Bandai YF-19 poses infinitely better. It's also a hell of a lot more finicky than the Yamcadia. The whole section behind the cockpit is a bitch to keep together. And the gunpod extension mechanic is a good idea executed poorly.
  15. Waiting for my shipping quote. Not looking forward to it.
  16. HLJ charged me just now, looking at my storage space I am in trouble.🤣
  17. EMS (4-20) shipping to US with all fees is $185. F**k You DJT! No fees was $85.
  18. Everything from line art and anime can vary rather widely. Here’s a few line art pics and they’re pretty different from each otherdefinitely bigger feet and usually shorter intakes, but I’ve seen contradictory line art showing longer intakes. The dual cannon is usually huge in battroid, but when shown straight up or in fighter, they end up shorter. Some images have shorter arm armor and others up to the shoulders. They probably would be longer for fighter mode transformation, but again the artwork is a bit all over the place. these were just a few quick images, but trust me, they’re pretty wildly all over the place
  19. I mean even the head lasers are taller and basically everything else. The feet next to the Plamax do look diminutive but i never felt that the feet were an issue with Hasegawa before. Also, the arm armor goes very far up to like the shoulder, which i'm not sure follows the line art either. Either way, it look like it really dominates the arm on the Plamax.
  20. I like the PLAMAX. I do. It's got that nostalgic anime feel. But I also notice some things I don't like. The jet intake/vent area looks really short and stubby. Doesn't look like how it would look in fighter mode. IMHO. The arm armor pieces go really high up, pretty much to the top of the shoulders. I don't think other versions look like that. And I don't think the lineart looks like that. Hasegawa's are shorter and I think I prefer that. The gigantic hands which just really don't look like they'd fit into the arms easily. Just some small nitpicks. I do like the bigger feet.
  21. Interesting to see them side by side. I like the Plamax better as far as looks and pose, but I think the real win is when they put the Plamax armored Valkyrie next to the ugly hasegawa one. a lot of the height looks due to the tiny hasegawa feet. The dual cannons are also quite a bit shorter giving it an even shorter appearance
  22. Wow! I didn't realize Hasegawa's smaller size was so great. They're not gonna mingle too well in diorama format without some forced perspective intended..

  24. We may not get another Tron movie, but we're moving closer to the Lightcycle.
  25. PLAMAX & Hasegawa
  26. I love the Eagle but $540?! OW!
  27. Without thinking I cancelled my order at Amazon Japan, though I think I had to pay up front. At any rate, it shipped via DHL and they credited me the difference in the lower price. However, I was not charged shipping nor was I charged for tariffs.
