I have the remains of a junker Jetfire 1/55; I have most of the metal parts except for the left shoulder hinge (dunno where it is, I can look if you'd like). Here's a pic: Let me know if you would like these and I'll set them aside for you. I can pull the metal parts out of the plastic for you (plastic is sun-damaged) so you don't have to worry about messing with that.

Thanks. White rust would seem to be what this is called. That assumes that Bandai used Chrome-plated Zamak for the diecast parts. Can anyone confirm they did? Looking things up in general, it seem like electrolysis is the most effective method of removal, but bathing the parts in vinegar and maybe lemon juice for awhile could do the job too. I just hoped someone here had been through this already and had more valk-specific advice. Blue/green sounds like it might be limescale too, come to think of it. That might be a different situation.

ThreeZero ROBOTECH (Macross) Toys

One of the other toy shops I go to is charging $160 per toy if you pay cash when the items arrives. I haven’t done a preorder through them before but this was all setup with them last month with the tariffs already at full swing. -
The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

I was recently pondering getting Siyang Culture's legends scaled train bots when a blast from the past popped up: Pocket Toys' KO of the Iron Factory Combaticons/Bruticus. I was still trying to avoid jumping down the legends rabbit hole when these originally came out, and I've harbored a small pang of regret every time pics of it pop up. So when this appeared, and at a decent price (guess it's actually sold even cheaper, but I wasn't aware of that until I'd already bought it), I gave a few minutes consideration before lobbing it into my cart. I didn't end up getting the train bots, though. War Giant Not without its flaws, but it also has its charms. I love the chonkiness of both the individual bots and the final combined mode. What's more, unlike Hasbro's Bruticus, no frame necessary.- 9390 replies

Or wait until April when it will be everywhere again and prices will fall back down. Have fun toy hunting in Japan though, it's a kick! Maybe you'll get lucky.

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next

Lucky! Not only that you have a local shop that sells the official stuff, and early no less! but that they sell third party stuff. The closest thing I have to that is a little mom and pop collectibles store that happened to get their hands on a local collector's estate sale. I bought FT's Brawn from them. We have a couple vintage toy sellers that also sell current stuff, but they don't deal with any third-party wares, unfortunately. I'd love it if we had a store akin to BBTS here in town. There's always a mark-up, but you also get the instant gratification.- 17896 replies

it doesn't pop up frequently enough on Mandarake/Jungle yet to have a good chance of ending up in a retail branch. Better use a proxy like buyee to buy it now/soon from Yahoo fleamarket (several listings available currently around 60k yen price) and send it to your JP hotel/accomodation from buyee warehouse afterwards.

Do some research first... This probably works with some metals better than others. For my faucet handle (Delta Portwood I believe), the inside of the handle corroded and had blue green build up. I removed the plastic bits and soaked everything in vinegar for a few hours. Vinegar got rid of the build up and I was able to lube it all up and put it back together and it works great now.

That's one of my favs from the 31 sketch sheet. Amazing lunch break job 😁

Kinda my thought there too. I'm going in with a lot of skepticism where this is concerned, thanks to Whinerman, and the first posts about peeing had me fearing, but it was just the dog, so I don't mind that. (well, I kinda mind the dog, but oh well...) But, for a first trailer, not bad. They need some different music, as I am not much of a Blondie fan, but I like the visuals and I can get and understand where she's dealing with a lot of stress and pain. She was a young adult when Krypton was destroyed, after all. So, feeling a little optimistic amid my skepticism.

I'll be traveling to Tokyo at the end of the month, any chance I'll be able to find one at a store there?

I'll try that. I presume just the metal parts should be immersed? How long did you have to do it? I assume the chrome plating is lost. Was that the case with the handle?
-
Would removing and soaking in vinegar work? That's how I just fixed a corroded faucet handle.
-
That's a perfectly reasonable assumption, but no. This Jetfire was acquired in this state. Looks, going by past experiences, as if this guy was partially submerged for a bit (about half the parts). Maybe a basement flood? I will post some pix soon, but I anticipated some kind of chemical bath might remove the oxidation (I'm thinking akin to Tarn-X). Then again, I don;t want to dissolve the plastic parts and wondered if disassembly is the way to go.

Have you been drooling over your chunky monkeys again? 🤤 Seriously, try a sponge file, it's a soft fine file that can be bend and is very finely grained!

Just saw that a couple minutes ago and while I don’t always agree with him, he seems pretty spot on with how I feel about the preview. That’s really the part of this I’m actually interested in. He looks the part and can definitely give off that attitude in a character. In real life he’s much nicer, but not above starting some real chaos. I remember that video of him starting a Mosh Pit while Pantera was doing their set at Black Sabbath’s final concert over the summer. Dude just jumped down from the stage and got the crowd moving with him. And to be such a star and not fear the crowd in a high contact interaction is definitely the kind of guy they need for this character

Anyone tackled removing die-cast oxidation from a Jetfire or similar era 1/55 valk?
-
I’m kinda skeptical there. Superman wasn’t as terrible as a lot of people say, but it had a lot of problems and Peacemaker was a real let down. Supergirl looks kinda like a meh movie so far. Not really getting a good feeling for this new dcu.

Is that the older plastic kit from before the IMS series?

Thinking of placing a pre-order for M&Ms at BBTS; What are the current tariff charges looking like? I tried googling and couldn't make sense of it.

Okay, I lied. 😉 I had some time at lunch and was motivated, so banged this out. A VF-24F version based on one of the discarded Kawamori head designs that I liked. This is a bit more Macross than the Zentradi Helmet head, so maybe more to folks' liking. Enjoy!

My guess is yes, they might have been originally taped into position and the tape got tired or the prototype has the same peg/slot sizes on either side and they don't have the fit right yet.

To be honest, I feel like that example underlines why they need a fantastically good explanation for why the Earth campus's first incoming class have been sent into harm's way on a starship instead of attending classes. The Motion Picture was the second-lowest rated title behind Final Frontier until Section 31 rolled in and stole the bottom spot, and the whole "the Enterprise is the only ship in range" thing is one of Trek's most-mocked cliches due to ex post facto setting changes in later works. Starfleet Academy is going to need a fantastically good explanation for why the entire incoming class of cadets were packed onto a starship and sent into harm's way or it's going to get branded an Idiot Plot because there's no obvious contextual explanation for it. The occasional bit of bad writing was easier to excuse when seasons were twenty-six episodes long, but when you only have ten episodes per season the audience is a LOT less forgiving. Not to mention that if you launch your series with an Idiot Plot your series is unlikely to recover, as Discovery and Picard both failed to do. I'll probably hoist the ol' jolly roger to see if the first season is worth it... though as you can tell I am not getting my hopes up even a little.
