Hope they announce some new stuff soon. Fire Valkyrie fighter would be nice. Or the missing Max and Miria units. Or more varieties of Super/Strike battroid I guess. They have a VF-11MAXL in the pipeline as well. @Big s yeah… waiting on the airfield for taxi sucks. Quote

Forgot about VF-11MAXL. It's battroid version right? Would be great if they also did VF-17T, and other stuff from M7 like max/miria VF-22S and assorted VF-11, VF-19, VF-17 variants. Probably too much to hope for though. Quote

GMK Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) Beat me to it!! So good. It’s up for pre-order at the usual sites. Looks like the correct arm armour packs for the TV super? Edited March 10 by GMK Quote

I'm giving this line a break for a while. And since i'm just about done shipping all my other models...there's plenty to keep me busy for a long time still. Of course, i know at some point, i will give in to temptation again. Quote

KOG Water Dragon Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Pre-ordered. Despite feeling like I prefer the movie version in regards to the leg packs. Maybe now is the time for Miria/Max versions? I keep hoping. What are the best bets for further releases in this mould series? Movie -1A with decals in red/blue/green? Movie VF-1S Roy? Or -1J in Miria/Max colors? Quote

All the ones from the movie and show will probably be done eventually. Just gotta give a lil time between releases. Also watch for how recent a hasegawa version is. Quote

The battroid picture you posted is from the series and the other modes in the same picture are from the movie, you can tell from the skull markings on the boosters I figured that since there’s already the battroid pic with the vents here’s some from the other modes with the same vent. Figured it would be easier to see in this color. As far as the actual details inside the area, it’s tough to find any pictures that show the tv versions with much detail in there, the movie one puts three circular thrusters in there, while the tv one kinda looks just flat. Not sure if the vent kinda details were added or not because it’s tough to see in screen pauses, but the tv version doesn’t have the circular thrusters Quote

If the modelers said this is the route they actually chose then the anime version would be more akin to styles like this. Line art is always the standard to follow. Quote

The line art pics that I posted show the same amount of detail as the anime pic you just posted for that spot. even the frist line art pic that you posted has it that way for the tv version the 1A on the other side of the picture is from the movie, you can tell by the skull and crossbones on the booster packs and those have the three circular thrusters in that slot on the leg which is different than the tv version next to it Quote
treatment Posted March 20 Posted March 20 (edited) I've quickly severely overexposed this shot from the BD. but you can kind of already make out the round thrusters on the side-vents (try to open the png in a new tab for full-res): The actual cell for this might possibly have alot more clearer details than shown in the rather "darkened" anime production... nightmareB4macross Posted March 20 Posted March 20 My bad I should have caught my error. I pulled the image from the Macross Mecha Manual. I’m slipping. There is always a new gem of detail to be found. Nice. This should be the proper reference image. But while I was looking for my reference books I found something odd in the Package Art Collection book. Somewhere along the lines a reference to a single thruster is made. Not sure where the reference came from but now I have to do more digging. The same reference appears on the back of Perfect Memory. Even the stickers on TT Super Valkyries have the three thruster on the legs. I’m going to have to go back to the anime and look for screen grabs to find if these thrusters ever showed up in the anime. And even more so, somewhere in the art books. Macross is the hobby that keeps on giving. Quote

One wonders if it's better to 'fix' that detail with a sheet of black painted polystyrene to cover over that vent-like texture, or do some "minor surgery" and add a single rocket nozzle in there? I would say leave it the color and of the leg armor and not as a blacked out panel. And to finally put this to rest, I looked into the Designer’s Notes. These are all the rough sketches from SK. Nowhere is there any visible thought of any kind of thrusters within that space. Wild. Quote

I think there was some added detail in the backpack that also didn’t exist until package art showed up. Yeah, I couldn’t find anything with the thrusters, or the venting, but I’m ok with the venting that’s on the Plamax, it makes it different from the movie, but not just a boring panel Quote

Yeah, the only thing the sketches confirm is Kawamori-san's goal of making the VF-1 easy for the animators to draw (which, if memory serves, is something that the Designer's Notes specifically points out.) The backpack SDFM line-art detail is this version here. Which was never really used. Most animation detail and the majority of SDFM line-art has it blacked out. For DYRL the panel looks like vertical slats. And for the TT/Bandai toys it was small round circular thrusters. Quote

That’s the bit I was thinking of for sure. It’s like certain details started as one thin through production and ended up something totally different by the time toy and model companies got around to things Quote

I don’t think any animator or cell coloring artist would remember to keep highlighting these areas over and over just to keep that detail. Edited March 20 by nightmareB4macross Quote
