mikeszekely Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I've played the original, and I can't say I cared for it much. But one of my close friends is a hardcore Sega fan; he'll probably be stoked to hear about this. Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Ecco was hard game to beat. Not like Chakan the Forever Man hard, but a challenge nonetheless. The plot was quite good, it has quite an unexpected turn IIRC. Quote
jenius Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I feel like I just got lost playing Ecco and wouldn't know where to go... Quote

Valkyrie Hunter D Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Here's an interesting collection of Telenet shooters, including Browning and Final Zone II, that were only released on the PC Engine: Quote
JB0 Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Genesis does! Sixteen-bit tactical espionage action. Can't do this on Nintendo! "Ummm, actually, that's an 8-bit game. Like, I'm pretty sure you're running modified MSX code on the Genesis Z80. And we did do this on Nintendo literally decades ago." Genesis does! What Nintendon't. Quote

Hey Mike, Armored Hunter Gunhound EX is an extremely accomplished assault suits 'em up, (The Assault Suit series known in the U.S. as Sega Genesis: Target Earth/ Assault Suit Leynos and it's sequel SNES: Cybernator/ Assault Suit Valken). I picked it up while traveling in San Diego today and waiting to get back home to my psp 3000 at the end of the week to play it. The background to it: Was released in Japan for the playstation portable by Dracue it came over to the PC with a US release with all the text translated in English. Unfortunately Drucue closed down and since then, they delisted the Steam version. Interestingly enough the original gunhound is still on sale at dlsite but since the company is dead you can't upgrade the game to EX equivalent anymore as the updater requires connection to dracue's server to download the files. Piracy is the only option at this point to get this game. a poster on a shmups discord remarked: "thank goodness i updated it back then and that i downloaded gunhound pocket when it was available." So it's a bit of a lucky find at this price and excited to give it spin being a personal fan of the Assault Suit series. Quote

Hikuro Posted Wednesday at 10:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:38 PM So quick Q, someones offering me untested Famicon and Super Famicon for 65 bucks. The Famicon looks to be in real good shape hardware wise but missing cables, comes with both controllers. The Super Famicom though, it's been yellowed a fair amount, no cables, 1 controller. Sort of thinking of getting them on friday. Any thoughts? Quote

Sort of thinking of getting them on friday. Any thoughts? Shouldn't be too hard to get working cables. It's probably not a bad deal, if the SFC was as solidly-built as the SNES then almost certainly still works no matter how yellow (and if you're comfortable taking it apart, it's possible to undue some of the yellowing), and if the Famicom is in good shape and works it's probably worth around $50 by itself. I think the real question is if you want to start down the rabbit hole of buying Japanese software. The cartridges/slots are a bit different on the Japanese systems. You can get adapters, but it's usually easier to find adapters to use Japanese carts on American hardware than the other way around. Quote

Could be quite the rabbit hole, but so far I've had pretty good control on not going over board lately with retroware....I don't think I've purchased anything since maybe February for the most part. Not even sure what games I would even purchase on either console....I would suppose some of the basics or a similar library to what I already got which isn't a terrible amount. 99% of the games I own are from my original ownership and it wasn't much. Folks didn't wanna pay those kind of prices even back in those days and that's understandable. Sametime, I dunno what's even really out there for games I could play that doesn't involve a lot of reading japanese, verbally hearing it is one thing, reading it, I sucked. Quote
Hikuro Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM (edited) I picked up the Famicom and Super Famicom consoles today. Both are absolutely gross and needing a good cleaning in and out. Course no cables of any kind and 1 controller for the Super. I'm gonna hopefully meet up with someone who can help and see if both consoles even work or if I'm gonna need to do some stuff. He's got a very clean fixed up Super Famicom shell he's willing to trade for the current shell I got along with a new controller. Might take him up on it. It's gonna be tough getting both of these consoles up and running, probably. more so the famicom than the super. UPDATE Okay so I met up with someone in town a bit ago, he was nice enough to hook up both consoles and take a look. The original Famicom works, there might be a short in the Player 1 controller, or something inside, and I gotta investigate it, but the system does play games that's a huge win! He was also nice enough to gimme an RF adapter as he had about 50 of them in spare. Sadly though, while the Super Famicom has power, it does not have a video signal. And we didn't have any games to test out on that unit. I took the Famicom apart and it's just god awful disgusting inside. I wanna get it cleaned up real good and looking nice again, give it a nice lease on life....I dunno if I wanna retro bright it, but if I do give it a good scrubbing at least, that'll help. However if I do a bright treatment on it, I'll need sticker replacements. I can find the 3 clear stickers that go on the console, but the Family Computer label on the front seems to be very elusive and that surprises me. Has anyone come across a suitable replacement for it? Edited 20 hours ago by Hikuro Quote
Scyla Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Is the Gamecube already considered retro gaming? Probably the last Gamecube game I am going to buy for the collection. Edited 3 hours ago by Scyla Quote
