Scores:

2. "PATLABOR 2 Sound Renewal" by Kenji Kawai

420778[/snapback]

This collection wins, as it's probably the best from Kenji Kawai that I've heard in a long time. Listening to Hallucination right now.

I'm also quite a big fan of Yoko Kanno's works as well, so I'd vote for Inner Universe, Rise, and Turkey.

Ghost in the Shell OSTs - for all of them (the two movies, and the two TV series!)

The Appleseed 3D CG anime movie's soundtrack was also pretty kick-butt.

Recently I've been having an "Otaku no Video" revival. The OST of that is fun, in a weird way. I guess it kind of helps if one has an understanding of Japanese and Japanese anime history when listening to it...

I can't rank what I've heard so far as the best since I haven't been exposed to as much anime as alot of you guys have. Here's what I do like:

Macross -- "Ai Oboeteimasu Ka" (Do You Remember Love) -- beautful song!

Macross Plus -- I have Vol. 1 & 2 and Sharon Apple the Cream Puff. Love Information High, Voices (especially the English and cello versions -- yes, I know, these aren't on any of the above CD's), Macross National Anthem, Fly Up In The Air~Tension (incredible!), and After, In The Dark (freakin' incredible, my fave M+ song!).

Macross Zero -- downloaded it, but can't remember the name; that song that Sara sings in the forest when Shin finds her nekkid.

Bubblegum Crisis Vocal Collection Vol 1 -- Konya Wa Hurricane (of course), Mr. Dandy, and pretty much all the songs by the Priss voice actress.

Zoids New Century Soundtrack -- I don't know the names of any of the songs since they are all written in Japanese, but the theme song is cool, the song that is used when the Liger Zero prepares for battle, and a few other ones.

GITS: SAC Vol. 2 -- the first 2 songs are especially incredible!

Space Cruiser Yamato -- theme song (simply awesome!) and several others.

Ikki Tousen and Tenjho Tenge -- the opening songs are catchy; can't get them outta my head!

Robotech -- Look Up! The Sky Is Falling -- ok, ok! I know it's not Mospeada, but it's still a very cool song.

I also love video game music/bgm/soundtracks, too! I'm currently listening to these soundtracks: Radiant Silvergun (legendary Saturn shooter, and godly bgm!!!) 19XX (Capcom arcade shooter), Darius Gaiden (Taito arcade shooter, Zuntata rules!), and Gunstar Heroes (Treasure's Sega Genesis action platformer). My all-time fave game bgm's (which I would love to get soundtracks for) are: Thunderforce IV, Ninja Warriors Again, Super Shinobi aka Revenge of Shinobi, Super Shinobi 2 aka Shinobi III, and too many others to list.

By the way, if you haven't heard it, check out the opening song to Dead or Alive 2 for the DC or PS2. It's called Exciter by Bomb Factory! Awesome hard rock song! You can download it here: http://www.deathcom.net/

Anyway, from what I like above, can anyone recommend any anime/game music that you think I should check out?

If Yoko Kanno is attached, then its automatically great. :)

Inner Universe (GiTs: SAC).

Lithium Flower (GiTs: SAC).

Turn-A Gundam OP (not sure what its called). Stop smirking - Turn-A Gundam rocks!

Information High (Macross Plus).

Childs Toy second OP ("Ultra Relax" - just because its so much fun watching people try and keep up at karaoke!).

Konya wa Hurricane - Bubblegum Crisis.

May Tomino strike me down for saying this, but Just Wild Beat Communication from Gundam Wing (I'm sorry, my master, I'm so very sorry... )

Revolution from Utena.

"I Do" (GiTs: SAC 2nd Gig).

I also have a terrible weakness for anime tracks from the 80s like the Kimagure Orange Road themes and though the Noir soundtrack doesn't really count as a "song", "Salva Nos" is awesome.

Maybe i should just post my anime playlist here.

I don't wanna admit it, but i must say i must've listened to Cruel Angel Thesis a million times back in the day and can actually sing the whole song word for word. XD

Anyway i'll just list the current ones that i like.

The Haruhi insert songs God Knows and Lost My Music are J-pop awesome. I kinda like all the Eureka 7 songs as well. ;) Zegapain's OP is growing on me.

My list is too long to post here

I'm currently listening to Tsubasa Chronicle OST, Yuki Kajiura has done some amazing work in this one. I love the song of storm and fire.

POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!

And the background song during the Ashura-Yasha Clan in the second season is simply amazing. I was simply stunned when they introduce king (or queen) Ashura riding her horse with the red moon in her background, the background music is sooooo fantastic. rolleyes: .

"SF" from Prefectural Earth Defense Force. A nice, solid hard rock tune.

A lot of the Lupin III stuff from the 70's. Great jazz.

The Earth Girl Arjuna OSTs. I hate, hate, hate the show, but these are some of Yoko Kanno's best work, IMO.

"Hit in America" from Beck.

"Dance of the Curse" from Escaflowne

"Only One, No. 1" from Di Gi Charat

"Girls(heart)Boys" from School Rumble

"Carnival Babel" from Blue Seed

"Girls on Film" from Speed Grapher

"Twilight" from the Daicon IV Film (are these two cheeting?)

"Force" from Berserk

Ravel's "Bolero" and Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyries" from Legend of the Galactic Heroes (heh, another possible cheet answer).
