The AVP MegaThread

Recommended Posts

I for one am going to see AVP with an open mind. Also, I refuse to watch any 'making of' TV specials before I see the movie as I want to go into the theatre with as few preconcieved notions as possible. I think most of these 'making of' movies tend to give away far too much of the story and usually show all the best action bits.

I thought Paul Anderson did a reasonable job of Resident Evil. True it wasn't up the stand of a Romero zombie movie, but I did like it enough to buy the DVD.

I'm going to remain hopefully optimistic until I actually see the movie myself and avoid reading all reviews.

I'm quite impressed with Event Horizon. Most creepy movie, that one. Haunted house set in space = great popcorn flick.

Event Horizon started out interesting and stayed that way for about an hour. Then it turned into "What's the stupidest way we can end this movie while utilizing about 40,000 gallons of fake blood."

Event Horizon is like Hellraiser in space....ummm...there WAS a hellraiser in space IIRC.

I watched the preview too... it looks dissapointing. I don't like the whole idea that the Predators are our ancestor/creator nonsense. The Arctic setting seems suspiciously like 'The Thing'. The human cast looks really bad. The hero is a Ripley wannabe and an 'environmentalist' to boot. Please tell me they don't weave an environmentalist message in this too, we already have The Day After Tomorrow.

And it's set in our time? with like a million Aliens swarming all over the Arctic?

I would have liked to see no human cast at all. They just get in the way.

mah, you guys took all the cool complaints... :p

It's funny that Mike Richardson of Dark Horse executive produces the movie but from what your saying PWS Anderson is taking with coming up with the concept...

OK I won't say it's gonna suck...

this movie is gonna be so gay!

I'll reserve judgement until after I see it as well.

Since I don't read comics, what was the Dark Horse comics story like? Was it based on the novels? Or were the novels based on the comic?

I liked the books ok enough.

And since it's somewehat related...I wish Capcom would port the AVP Arcade game to one of the current consoles...I loved that game. It'd be a great way to sell an olld arcade game...bundle it with Final Fight and Area 88 and then you could sell it on PS2. ;)

Since I have no desire to see this flick, I went ahead and read a spoiler thread on starshipmodelers forums. After that, I only have one thing to say:

"Dude, this movie is going to be rock-tacular!!!"

If it's possible to elaborate on that without spoilers, could you please do so?

ie: is "rock-tackular" a good thing or bad?

i believe that the books are an adaptation of the comics.

Just like everyone else, I've been waiting for this crossover for a long, long time. It might suck. Then again, maybe it won't. Before I comment on this thing, I'd like to see it first. But even then.. my only expectation will be to be entertained. It's a sci-fi/action movie. Not fine art.

I wanna see monsters blowing sh_t up. I want boom, bang, slash, raarrgh. All that.

I want to be entertained. And I think I will be. That's all I can ask. B))

Im about to go see this possible crap fest. which brings me to my next comment, Its so farting easy to make a good avp movie, you just need to follow the following mathamatical formula

Alien + preditor + Colonial Marines + ass kicking + R rating = good movie.

Now if only some fox execs only knew how to read, or even think they would have realised this, we dont need any modern plausable preds are our mentors bable Bullshit, we need Alien + preditor + colonial marines + ass kicking + R rating damnit. Untill then id rather see this movie

i just saw it, i was surprised, it was better than i thought it would be, while it wasnt faithful to the comics it did pay many nice nods to the comics, i wont go into details cuz thatll be spoilers, the only problems i had were:

1 too much cg

2 too much EXTREME TO THE MAX stuff, the predators were too big with too many blades, the queen alien was too big (about 2.5 the size of the queen in aliens) and the drones were too strong, in aliens bullets kill them fine, in this they get smashed thru stone walls and pillars that shud splatter them but they are still up and fighting

Aliens and Predator, two different franchises, two different series, two different worlds... nothing in common.. who the fu.k had the idea of such a POS movie???? and the worst is that it's gonna be a teeny oriented summer crap... why did they had to put THE alien in such a stinky piece of sh.t??? honestly, I think this a complete bastard, I don't care if they put the Predator to fight with Dumbo or whoever they want, but leave alone the Aliens, Alien resurrection was enough humiliation to the franchise, I like to think that there are only 3 Alien movies... but now this crap, seriously I think that death penalty is needed for some people with empty brains and no creativity at all.

Sorry for the bad language guys, but it pisses me off to hear that such sh.t is around, I hope that the movie will be a complete failure.

Later folks!

well, because there has been like ten years worth of comics linking the two together.... and fan boys have been wetting beds for a decade wishing and dreaming for this movie.

proly the 2 games slightly helped it into a movie with the comics minus the marines.

i dont realy mind that is pg 13, seems like nowadays the rating system is getting weak. todays action movie love scenes make 70's porno look like sesame street.

I don't want to blow it for anyone but here's the cheesy ending.

they shake hands and then the alien sprouts a human body minus head out of his head?

edit: never realized how much the predator looks like a klingon

Well I saw the extended fight scenes to AVP at the S.D. Comic-Con where they showed scenes of the fights and some of the set-up. While I don't care if it's PG-13 or not, I've seen really good movies that didn't have to be balls out R for people to like it, come on. Now I'm all for spine ripping and head mashing, but there's a lot of crappy R movies that did that had failed.

Now on to the fight scenes as I remember them. They are pretty brutal and gory, it's two different aliens fighting each other and I was expecting the Predator to pop out some lasers and such, but it's mostly him with the big gauntlet knife vs. an alien. Now that's what I didn't dig. It should've been Predator technology vs. alien ols school kung fu.

i can see some of the reasons why it could be bad but i don't think its going to be complete horrid. i liked the alien movies(well just the 1st two) and i definitely like the predator movies(yes both). :D so they've decide to combined the 2 to try something new. if it turns out to be a stinker, atleast hollywood won't waste their time with additional releases combining other creatures/monsters.

i will watch it, then judge. B))

Why was a clone android of Ripley sent with the team?  Who knows, who cares.  It doesn't matter.  The whole movie is just contrived and convoluted setup for a Shamalayan surprise ending.  Haw haw.

Hey! I actually like that movie concept!! Fox should have hired you instead of that hack Paul WS Anderson!

I'd pay money to see that any day rather than see the kiddified train wreck that AVP has turned out to be.

You like that movie concept because it's just Aliens redux set after Aliens with a crappy ending attached.

And because at least these aliens aren't afraid of water. <_<

Some of my team went to see it at lunch today. Their words to me are: If you really, really like Aliens and Predator (the first one) you will really, really hate this movie. None of them liked it. Not a one. Out of four guys and one girl who went, all of whom have different tastes in movies, not a single one of them liked it. That tells me that I will hate it with a passion so no AVP for this chipmunk... no siree. The one guy that I consider to be my movie barometer (meaning any movie he likes I usually love and any movie he dislikes I usually loathe) even said it is not worth the money to see. He even went as far as to recount the entire movie for me in my office just now... about every ten seconds all I could say was "what? really? that sounds dumb" and his answer was "yep, pretty much".

Glad I stayed here and played Doom 3 against the tech geeks rather than go see this turd. JsARCLIGHT +$7 and happier to boot.
