Still baffles me why they felt the need to make that part of the shoulder so complicated. The little fold down flaps on the Yamato VF-17 might be stabby, and they pop off a ton, but they don't just completely break.

Maybe this is the HD re-release everyone's been asking for, but they blended elements from all the games into one? I don't know. The way they're talking, it's like they want to link the two game universes together via some cataclysmic event, like some sci-fi parallel world portal stuff. They're clearly bringing aircraft out of completely different universes together already. Much as I can appreciate how the f2p market is such a huge moneymaker for developers, I'm not at all interested in online play for any AC game, or one where you have to shell out cash to unlock aircraft or weapons. I just want a solid story, and some fun flying around blowing stuff up. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that niche fanbases are niche for a reason, and just cater to them.- 6945 replies

Have to say I'm thorougly confused now. Are they mashing up the original Strangereal universe plot with the real world? Definitely seeing what looks like superweapon emplacements. Whichever world it winds up in, I just hope they have the sense to drag the franchise back into the land of "Doesntsuckonia."- 6945 replies

AmiAmi just sent me a payment request, so they're on their way.
-
And back to order stop now. Glad some people got them!

Maybe it's just a printed prototype then, it definitely doesn't look like plaster there.
-
I'm not sure that would actually work though. Even if you detach the gloves first, doesn't the back edge of the wing still cut into the leg? Unless there's some sliding motion in the pivot, I don't think you can rotate the wings back without them physically going through the legs. I think in the hasegawa version, the trailing edge was laying flat against the leg, and you still needed to pull it out from where the normal pivot point was, even without actually rotating it.

Really, you know what that reminds me of? A full-color print from Shapeways. Same kind of texture to it, and you can see the print layers. Could be a quick prototype for advertising, but I kind of can't believe they would make something that incredibly small, and charge that much for it... Though... to be fair, depending on the material used at Shapeways, something that big could easily come out that expensive. It might be entirely printed, so they don't have to make molds or paint it, but I really wonder if they'll be able to sell these at that price.
-
Uh.... what. I get that they underpriced things before, but I think they're trying way to hard to make up for that. Wouldn't it be easier to just make a plastic planter where you can grow a cactus on it? I'm kinda tempted to design one now...

I still want my "Tickle Me Bodolza"

Oh absolutely, I don't think those knees really detract from the VF-19. I do think they look funny when bent in battroid though, they've just got a very weirdly shaped internal mechanism. I much prefer the old fashioned moving kneecaps like the VF-1 and VF-11 had, and I always thought the VF-19 would have the same thing. Oh well. Anyway, yeah, sorry to drag the subject off to the watermelon patch. I can't wait to see more of those missile packs.
-
I'm going to guess websclusive, no reason not to do that. Actually though, seriously, all it needs to be is a giant lump of painted plastic/resin/whatever. It's not like you'd be able to have moving parts at that scale. I'd qualify that more as a statue/model than anything else.

Not to be confused with usb mini mega, mini mega micro, or mini mega micro max. For those you have to contact apple. Really though, I realized that I have a ton of those cords, either for phone chargers, camera cables, or portable hard drives. It's quite handy they used something so standard.- 6945 replies

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Yeah, there is a lot of complaining that it doesn't do one thing or another as well as other various iterations of the VF-1. Sadly though, I think there are just as many shortcomings that are purely from Bandai borking up the design, entirely due to their own lack of thought and testing. The screwed up leg tabs, the sloppy joints, and lousy overall ability to stay in one piece aren't just lousy compared to other VF-1s, they're lousy period. There's some truly amazing ingenuity in this thing, but the pants-on-head stupid mistakes they made drag it down considerably. They should know better. -
Honestly, I might switch out the canopy with another YF-29 one (if I can figure out how to remove them without breaking them)

Completely off the subject.. but did anyone see this?? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BPRXJ-5CIAEE_QA.jpg:large

Honestly, I've never cared for the VF-19's knee joints, I think it's one of the weaker features due to the way they work. They have to extend out for fighter, and collapse for battroid, but they didn't try to disguise the exposed knee joint when it's extended. It just winds up looking like a big black empty gap in the leg. It's not terrible, but it makes me wonder why they didn't paint it so it was hidden better. Really, it's the exact same situation with the VF-17.

Just a thought, but I wouldn't ever want to base a scaled up model on anything from a cockpit. Doing so is naturally going to bork up the measurements horribly, because model cockpits are built so they are capable of being assembled. Making a pilot removable inherently will screw up the scale, because tolerances in model/toy cockpits are absolutely nothing like real life. Get a schematic of a real life fighter cockpit, and see how the pilot fits inside it. Models often will have very misshapen/mis-sized pilots to account for the fact that real human beings can bend. Aside from that, everything in a model cockpit is based on completely wrong thicknesses of materials. Generally speaking, if you have a 1/48 model, there is no way the seat frame is scaled to the correct thickness, because it would be paper thin. Even then, cockpits are cramped, and pilots are flexible. Models and toys very rarely (if ever) can account for this in any fashion. Pilots in kits/toys are meant to look passable for what will fit in the aircraft, not be something you can scale the aircraft off of. And actually, given the way plastic canopies can magnify or distort what is seen inside much more than a thin aircraft canopy would, I wouldn't be surprised if many companies purposefully size the cockpits incorrectly to help correct for this.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I don't think Bandai knows what the word "optional" means. But the Roy one is because it's actually Hikaru's valk again, just the TV version. Save the strike cannon and you can switch it out later, but yeah, that's just stupid. -
The main cause of the F-14's demise was a mix of things, but overwhelmingly that the cost of maintaining it was ludicrous compared with newer aircraft. One of my profs gave me the rough estimate of what it was costing to maintain it in terms of manpower.. something like 80-100 hours of maintenance hours per flight hour. That equates to whatever dollar-per-hour rate the mechanics were getting for the work. It's really also why you'll never see an actual valk without over-technology. The ridiculous maintenance would kill such a project before it ever even was contracted. You thought F-14s had a lot of moving parts...
-
Well, once you hit a specific point in technology, specs really don't mean much. There's only so much something can be improved, and sometimes, once you hit a high point, you realize that there was no reason to go that high in the first place. For example, current military aircraft. Used to be, everyone was so obsessed with speed records and such. Now, people are realizing, there's really no reason an aircraft absolutely needs to go mach 2, because stealth has taken the place of being able to get away fast. Modern planes still go supersonic, but they might not be as maneuverable or have the same top speeds.
-
Psh. Tell them David Hingten will buy their entire stock, maybe that'll work.

Definitely, it was only once the blue was confirmed as being so dark that I decided to get a 19S in the first place (sooooo much better than the ridiculous color used on the Hi-Metal 1/100 one). Just in general though, I like the blue/white better, since it just looks like Max's plane. Anyway, not sure why we're on that subject. I do hope Arcadia comes out with a few schemes for the new YF-19 though. For all the publicity the Supernova schemes got when they got published in those model magazines, I'm still amazed Yamato didn't try and release those to begin with. Considering the VF-19s had some of the Supernova decals included on their respective sheets, I really hope that hurdle is past, and we can get the actual schemes, or at least a blank white YF-19 to decal up.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Dremel what exactly? The plastic is only 1 mm thick there. The VF-1 really is a very tiny aircraft. -
I never understood what all the random paint bits on it are for. Particularly, the "gills." It just looks weird. The stripes in general I get, it was a prototype.
