Honestly, I'm more annoyed by the fact that they decided they needed to paint the engine pods in a metal tone, instead of making them match with the rest of the plane. Still not bad, just looks out of place when the rest of the plane is so nicely matched.

Don't forget there was also a Millia VF-17-style VF-171EX in there, and a Gamlin-looking VF-171. I'd love to have one in red.

Ok, to be fair, yes, it probably looked like that in the game.. but what is it with Bandai and printing white markings on white plastic?

Star Wars Rebels - animated series
Chronocidal replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Here's the thing.. I want them making some designs the old kitbash way, not some chromed-out hood ornaments like they did in Episode I. Making things out of pieces that actually exist lends them a moderate amount of realism that you don't get out of something designed entirely in a computer. -
Saban's Power Rangers, in theaters March 24,2017
Chronocidal replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
They just need to make an Akibaranger tie-in movie. Apparently in the second season, they get transported to a parallel universe where MMPR was the original series, and Japan imported it.- 128 replies

Actually, while most of the pop from Frontier was distinctly different, the first time I heard Diamond Crevasse, I felt something like nostalgia for "Real Folk Blues" from Bebop. Don't know how similar the lyrics are, but the use of that piece as the ending for the first half of the series was an excellent choice (especially in the episode 6-7 bit where it just blended into the concert).

Paid, and shipped from HLJ Had a couple of figmas to ship with it that I'd been waiting to get, and they only added about $5 to the shipping cost for the Ozma.

There's one spot where the backplate hinge rests against the black behind the canopy, and a piece of tape can protect the paint there. The other spot is a possible scratch on either side of the very front of the canopy, where the cockpit fits into the backplate. I fixed it by sanding down the metal that would cause the scratches, it's not very hard to do. I think there are pictures of both places earlier in the thread.

Well, actually, I'm more partial to the Mave, just because there are so many options on it. Wound up going ahead and ordering one of each with HLJ though. August is my birthday, so maybe I'll splurge a bit. can always cancel later if I don't wind up having the funds around.

Well, depends on which type of droop you mean. They're a little front heavy, so if you don't do something to tighten up the engine rotation (which always seemed like a completely pointless feature to me), the engines may tend to tilt from the weight of the packs. If you mean droop as in anhedral, yes, the tips on all the packs droop downwards. Apparently it's a feature of the original movie model that they didn't carry over into the game.. which is really sad, because I love the packs to be straight out in line with the wings.

Thanks for the heads up, can finally grab one of these. Debating getting both, but I'll wait and see.

I've been begging for those since before the old Yamato YF-19 even came out. At least, I think I have, I don't recall when those schemes first appeared, but I remember comparing the Yamato CAD drawings with that custom transforming Hasegawa, so I'm assuming they came out before it.

Well, ok, that was enough to make me grab one. Perfect timing, and a nice price. Now I just need to sell off one of my 30th versions, and pick up the super parts.

Star Wars Rebels - animated series
Chronocidal replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Saw that a while back myself, and had to laugh. Guess they can declare the EU doesn't exist all they want, but still aren't capable of designing ships as good as unofficial artists can.If the thing wasn't solid black, I would've probably grabbed one. -
I'm kind of in the same boat; for me, it's a combination of YF-29 oversaturation, and frustration at how stupidly difficult the dumb things are to acquire in the first place. I may wind up selling one of my 30th editions because over time I'm losing interest in doing the custom scheme I had wanted to do. I'm also quickly running out of space for storing boxes, and buying duplicates of things I don't actually wind up liking as much as I thought I would isn't helping any. I might be willing to trade a 30th for an Ozma though , if anyone feels the need for one. Or if they wind up easy to get after release, maybe I'll grab one. Really don't know yet. The biggest thing is that I'm sick of playing preorder roulette.

Star Wars Rebels - animated series

Honestly, that style doesn't strike me as "anime" so much as old late 80s-early 90s saturday morning cartoon. Mostly reminds me of Wing Commander Academy. I'd love to see an entire series like that, but it's kind of getting to the point where no one wants to pay animators to spend the time necessary to make that kind of animation by hand, and CGI is probably a huge cost savings in labor once you have the models rigged. -
Ok, yeah, I might have to order one of these just because. Don't even ride, but it's worth having as a conversation/costume piece.

Or, assuming the missile pod is symmetrical, just put the handle in either mounting point, and hope it holds.
-
The issue I've noticed on several VF-19 molds, as well as this new YF-19, is that the head has a bit of room to slide on its mounting from side to side. It can make the small panels not lay flat, because the head is trying to fit into the space off-center. I actually unscrewed the head on mine and pulled it off to see where this issue was coming from, but it wasn't really necessary, and it was a pain to screw back on because of the hinge pin in the way. It's just that the head can slip a little ways back and forth on the pegs it sits on.

Meh, still up at NY, grabbed one after all. Will just get it later, since I didn't want to spend a bundle on shipping.

Not a serious loss for a lot of it, no. But I'll never stop hoping that someone somewhere will someday base a next-gen X-Wing game off of the novel series. Corran Sue aside, those books are some of my favorite novels period, and I've wanted to play simulator missions based off the storylines since I read them. Would be a nice tidy complete circle, what with the books being based off the original X-Wing/Tie Fighter games in the first place. Who knows really.. with these movies set 30 years after, I bet there's going to be all kinds of attempts to wedge (hah) the stuff directly after the OT into the new canon as well.

That's kind of why I did save up and grab two of them. One's a little sturdier than the other, so it's the one I'm just leaving in fighter mode forever, while the other is the one I'll transform and play around with. Already filed down the backplate so it doesn't scratch the nose, and I'm looking at how to keep the backplate hinge from scratching the black behind the cockpit. As far as pricing though, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a bare-bones release later down the line like they did with the YF-21. Basically, just remove the second tray, and you've got the YF-19 itself without the fast packs and extra weapons. That might knock a good 5000 yen off the base price. I'd also expect any repaints like the Supernova schemes to do the same thing, since the only actual source for all those external weapons was that single drawing. Actually, for all the extras they put into this version, I'm surprised they left out a rear canopy replacement cover, for the bit where Yang got ejected. It'd be incredibly simple to scratch build one though, since there's no moving parts on it, and the canopies are both easy to remove by just pulling out the sliding hinges.

Where does Shadows of the Empire stand in all of this? I can't remember if that was actually declared to be within the canon or not (I want to say yes it was), but would they potentially be able to use material from that story in the new movies?

Heh. Honestly, I don't blame them for dropping a lot of it, the crazy levels of mary-sue-ness Luke reached in some of those books was horrible. While it might be a case of the pot and the kettle hanging out together, I actually loved how Stackpole wrote I, Jedi as a direct counter to some of the more ridiculous parts of the Jedi Academy books. Really.. if there is one thing I hope they carry over from the EU? It's the way Zahn began to treat the Force in his later books, especially the Hand of Thrawn. The way he worked out a sort of passive/active methodology to it made so much sense.
