Yeah, the costs don't seem to be going down any sadly, and I dont know if I can justify this one after a pair of YF-19s. If I see it actually available to purchase (without playing the F5 mashing minigame), maybe. But I'm not going to stress about it, because there's honestly too many features I don't like to make it a "must have" valk. I never really even used it in the game unless the plot required it, since the YF-29s always seemed to top it in terms of uitility and looks.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Really hoping the microtransactions will be multiplayer focused so I can ignore them entirely. The demo did look fairly promising, but the aircraft development tree looked like it would be a serious pain compared with the classic "save money and buy what you want" system.- 6891 replies

Suppose they could be trying to get licensing to release a set of VF-25 packs for it, but a ghost or phalanx kit would be nice.

I'm planning to try making one eventually, but I need to get my own printer working again before I go through the testing/fitting process. Once I get the piece designed and working, I'll upload it to shapeways.

I did read somewhere that the original release of this toy had what looked like they should have been hinges to allow transformation, but it's like they gave up half way, and just glued it all together.
-
There's really no comparison between those two. Most of the things people are faulting about the Arcadia YF-19 are things that were better (or similar) on the Yamato VF-19 releases, which were much better than any of the old YF-19 mold from Yamato.

Looks kind of like they based this off the picture of the cover of the second novel, with a few differences. Nice design overall.

Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
Chronocidal replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
It's really more than that though, the entire lower leg from the S/A design needs to be replaced before the wings will line up and attach properly, not to mention the fins on the intakes. On the other hand, the backpack still seems to have the stubs where the S/A tails would slot in, but the slots look plugged up. -
NEWS!!! 1/48 VF-1J Super Valkyrie Max/Miria w/Reaction Mis
Chronocidal replied to joscasle's topic in Model kits
The awesome thing about this.. I only ever got a single 1/48th (Hikaru 1J super)... now I can complete the group without hunting down the old Yammies. -
I've noticed that too.. really, I don't think this mold does the game model justice. the nose looks off somehow, maybe it's just the awkward angles of the anti-glare panel that's painted on? It just looks overly bulbous. Also, as far as the way the legs transform, and having to rotate them 180 degrees.. that's one thing I wish Kawamori would drop entirely, as it's a pain in the ass, and I think all of the Frontier valks do it. I'd have to transform a VF-25 to check, but I think that one might be even worse... since you have to flip the crotch plate 180, and then rotate the metal bracket the hips are on another 180, the hips wind up pulling a full 360 around their ball joint. You can technically avoid all of this, but you have to rotate the lower legs out 90 degrees, and give the valk a crazy yoga-like pose to get the legs to swing around under the armpits without rotating at the hip.
-
Yep, that's been my biggest gripe with the landing gear all along, the nose looks way too short. I kinda ignored it, and figured it worked like the F-4, with the front gear jacking up in the air once the plane started and hydraulic pressure built up. Looks awesome that way, and grats for having the courage to try it! Edit: Also, something stupid I realized.. the collapsing grip does absolutely nothing to raise the gunpod tip.. the part that collides with the crotch plate isn't even the part that can collapse.

I don't really care for the way the tails work at all, just design-wise. The pivot is located too high for the tails to actually lean in for high-speed mode with the fast packs attached, because the bottom edge pushes the packs out, and the tails themselves don't actually fold flat in battroid, because the hinge doesn't allow it. The folding rudder is a novel idea I guess, but I would have prefered if they had used the actual rudder, and let it move to allow room for the feet, instead of just making an arbitrary section of the surface fold over entirely. Nothing even reaching a serious problem with the design, just a "Huh, I wonder why they did that" moment.

This one actually has a fairly good chance of this, since it's dark gray to begin with. The Alto and 30th were serious messes, with either the entire underside being painted gray, or the entire body being molded in gray, and the entire upper surface painted whatever else. It's kind of a combination of terrible parts breakdown, and ridiculous paint schemes.

You have to fiddle with the knee and thigh joint angles and twist a little before they'll line up, but I actually got mine to finally seat really well, and it holds together nicely once it's all lined up. Just takes a little bit of patience to figure out.
-
The shoulders locking isn't really the problem, though they do tend to be a llittle difficult to line up correctly with the slots in the lower legs. I think most of the fast pack problems I've heard of come from the leg packs, which really don't have anything solid to hold them into the legs. One of mine is completely rock solid, and the tabs are the perfect fit for the leg slots, but the other acts like the tabs are tapered, and while I can press them in, they squeeze themselves back out of the slots immediately. What I did notice is that the little ridges inside the holes on the legs are not very consistently sized. Some are nearly invisible, others are larger, and look like they're going to push the tabs back out. Not to mention.. they're painted black, and pushing the packs in tends to scrape that paint off. It really might just be that how well the packs stay in will depend on how much paint got in those slots.

Arcadia 1/60 VF-19 Custom Nekki Basara Special with Sound Booster
Chronocidal replied to SaitouSad's topic in Toys
Don't forget the Phalanx lineart and CAD on the far right. -
How do you even get that many of any type of part? I mean.. I get it, Bricklink, etc.. but the cost to obtain that many of those types of elements just boggles my mind.
-
That will still cause rubbing against the paint, though. You want to avoid direct friction with the painted surface.
-
The VF-4 was always a niche thing, and I'm pretty sure it was only made to order, but I think orders reopened due to demand at one point. I'd happily grab one in the FB2012 scheme, but that's probably it, unless the prices drop significantly.

I noticed something that seems kind of similar, but I'm not sure what the cause is. Mostly.. it just looks like there isn't an actual "solid" place where the wings are supposed to sit. If you press them fully against the legs, the pylons are mounted at a very slight outward angle (similar to how a superhornet has them). The metal rotation bars for my wings were actually fairly loose, so I put a drop of thin superglue onto the metal to tighten it up, and it's worked fine so far. But yeah, the tolerances on those hinges are very tight, and any foreign material in them could make them not align correctly.
-
I can't actually say I'm dissatisfied, or even disappointed. The only real gripes I have are that they changed the wing glove pivots, the knees look unfinished with the weird sliding tab they added, and they didn't change the ankles any. I might have to come up with a different gunpod design for all the F-19s to let it stay level though.. if they actually sat closer to the belly, I might mount them more often. Could they have improved things? Probably, but it's still a beautiful piece of engineering. I've been waiting for a good one for so long, the little quibbles don't amount to enough to detract from it in any serious way. As far as not predicting that the backplate might scratch the cockpit though.. remember, this is inheriting most of the engineering behind the VF-19s. None of those had any paint on the nose, so it was never an issue.

VF-0 is mostly like the VF-1, two doors that open towards alternate sides of the leg, minus the front doors with the lights
-
Oh, one thing I realized... I remember someone wishing the canards folded down like the VF-4, instead of rotating. That actually wouldn't work, because unles they rotate backwards so the sweep is in the opposite direction, they'd probably be interfering with the hip joints.
-
They were just concerned with being designed to handle the stresses of fold travel, and mounting the boosters really. There's an episode of M7 where Gamlin mounts a booster on a VF-17, and it almost shakes itself apart trying to fold. Anyway, the earlier issue about doors not laying flush was about the ones next to the head, not the little gullet flaps. Some people had glue under those head doors which was keping them from closing. On the other hand, one of my gullet flaps does pop out a little. Those flaps are so thin, they're very prone to warping or bending. Overall? I guess I can agree I'm not "overjoyed" with the YF-19.. but at the same time, I'm thrilled to finally have one to display next to my YF-21. While I don't like a couple of design choices, I can live with them. I got over the droopy gunpod long ago with the VF-19s, and I generally don't mount it anyway since I prefer clean planes.

Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
Chronocidal replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
That's just it, they really don't exist. Only other place I think I've seen 1/60 scale is on old models from the 60s-80s, like this one. There might be others, but this is the only one I've ever seen in person.
