Quality or not, people are shelling out money to see it, it seems.

I couldn't resist picking that set up recently, really love the variety of parts in there! The stacks of slopes that make up the main body are the main reason I got it, but the entire set is a huge improvement over the first version they made years back. That one didn't even have cockpits on the wings, they were just the gun bubbles over nothing.

I think, theoretically? I know I saw a discussion about that looking for any early reviews, but I only saw it confirmed that the one from AH works, maybe the one that came with AC6, if there was one. I think though, on the PS3, any usb flight stick might potentially work. Just might take some custom drivers or something.

At this point, I'm ok if they don't re-release all the DYRL valks, I mostly picked up the Arcadia releases for the stands. I wasn't going to originally even get them all, but I got sucked in by an HLJ sale when they discounted the Max and Kakizaki strike bundles. Only one I'm actually missing is the Max 1S, and I still prefer the Yamato off-white, so I might just try and get a spare 1S head for my Max 1A.

I'm not sure that post was about the VF-1, actually. I couldn't read the text originally, so maybe someone can confirm, but I don't think it mentioned the VF-1, and it was just a teaser pic. I think they posted actual photos of the missiles too, but at the time, it could have been about the weapons they included with the YF-19 release. I think the more recent photo of Arcadia's prototypes is just as reassuring though. They had some leg packs molded in transparent blue and red. Besides that though, I really like what Arcadia did with the new style pylons for the YF-19's weapons, so I actually hope they update the VF-1 missiles to use the same system (but with white pylons please ). Everything except those odd green pods with the single fin uses the same pylon shape, so you can actually mix and match some of the weapon mounting styles. The AMRAAM style missiles didn't have much you could do with them, but the reaction missiles, high-maneuvers, and rocket pods all could be swapped in and out, and mounted solo, or in pairs on either style of dual mounting rack. I actually kind of like mounting the reaction missiles on the side-by-side mounts, instead of the hanging dual racks.

I... yeah. Guess I'll just keep hoping for an HD re-release of the old games. That's just so insanely disappointing to hear them ruin such a promising game with nonsense crap like that. I might shell out for the campaign since I would have bought the game anyway if I could have, but I'll wait for reviews about the campaign to se if it's worth a look. Really hope the entire thing backfires on them, and they wind up adding a ton of features on single player, but I won't count on it. Unfortunately, they'll probably make a ton on the microtransactions, and decide that people don't want singleplayer anything from now on. Can't wait til that fad passes and we get some quality games again.

Arcadia 1/60 VF-19 Custom Nekki Basara Special with Sound Booster
Chronocidal replied to SaitouSad's topic in Toys
See, I actually bought a spare 19F to swap the S head onto. Max VF-19S forever! -
Yeah, I plan to grab it directly from the site when it goes up. The classic wings along the nose sounds like a good plan, it'll blend in pretty well. I might do something similar. The pods on the wingtips though are going to get a complete redesign.. maybe an enclosed cockpit version, maybe just a detachable unmanned pod like the old hovercraft set, depending on if I can find yellow windows to match (I have VERY few pieces that color).

Arcadia 1/60 VF-19 Custom Nekki Basara Special with Sound Booster
Chronocidal replied to SaitouSad's topic in Toys
The Cavaliers and brownie VF-1J were both one-shots from the series that got maybe a few seconds of screen time total.. They're just those rare schemes people have always thought would be neat to have, and Yamato figured they could milk their molds a bit more. -

I have to disagree with one point about Bandai "doing it right"... they've gone so far in the opposite direction from Yamato, keeping things very low in print, and refusing to reissue them despite overwhelming demand, they wind up hurting themselves and the fans. The only people their tactics benefit in the long run are the webshop scalpers. I understand wanting to avoid any sort of risk, but the way they treat the franchise and fanbase is more like outright paranoia. If they are soooo scared of overproducing anything to even the slightest degree, then they should move to an entirely made-to-order system, and actually produce the numbers people want instead of the nonsense scalper's holiday it has become. -
I've got a fairly large modification plan already in place for this thing, starting with replacing the outer wing pod-ships entirely with something a little more substantial, and with better mounting. I'm going to grab two of those sets off the bat when they become available online, and probably mix and match parts to change a few things. Right now though, I'm considering building up the UCS Imperial Shuttle set, and mentally redesigning the nose section before I start.

If it was easier to flip around the clicky wingtips on the outside of the wing nacelles, I'd say do that too. You can kind of get an idea of what it would look like by twisting the engines around backwards, but then you've just got the most effective thrust reverser in history.

There we go.. JUST got the shipping notice for my pair of Isamu part sets.

Actually, I've gotten a few VF-25/29s that have had oddball front landing gear doors that don't like to line up well. They can be forced into place, but they don't fit right, and tend to pop open.. I half wonder if it's because they've actually swapped pieces left for right internally. I had that happen on my VF-171CF... The doors are right, but the mounting pieces they attach to? Dingbats installed two left-side hinges, so the door pivots at the wrong angle, and doesn't sit flush. It's not too noticeable, but it's still one of those little things that Bandai seems so completely incapable of getting consistently right. And I think every one of my Bandai valks has at least one intake cover that will fall out from a stiff breeze.
-
There's a flat portion on the inner side of the wing nacelles that rubs against the flat outer edge of the inner wing section. That's the area you need to add friction to, since the pivot itself is just too far buried in the wing to really get to.

That pencil shading on the JJ-prise was amazing, but this must be an order of magnitude easier to actually do because of all the existing panel lines. It's looking beautiful so far. I might need to try that someday on a trek kit...
-
The way I've heard most people doing it is coating the contact points on either the outer edges of the wings, or the sides of the engine nacelles with nailpolish, or glue, or something. I don't know which is easier to coat, but applying to the wing sounds slightly easier than on the engine. I think some people have actually said they just glued the wings in place, since there's really no need for those engines to rotate.
-
The worst part is, the stuff they screw up is never something that's actually difficult to get right.. it's all the boneheaded, "I can't believe you can actually mess this up" things.

Arcadia 1/60 VF-19 Custom Nekki Basara Special with Sound Booster
Chronocidal replied to SaitouSad's topic in Toys
Oh wow, HKC still has some stock of the 19s, not to mention VF-17s and VF-17 super packs.. I had no idea. Tempted to buy a 4th VF-19P to customize... They even have the 30th DYRL VF-1A CF for about $100. -
I might do the same actually, would love to remove the dish and fin, but hate risking ruining the only one I have. Would also give me another testbed for making my own triangles. I have a plan for the lower ones, but need to experiment with replacements for the uppers. Maybe I need to just transform my CF until it breaks for extra motivation.

I think I've actually gotten about half of my bandai valks in some level of complete mistransformation. The people packing them just don't know how to do it, and don't even know what the product is supposed to look like.

Arcadia 1/60 VF-19 Custom Nekki Basara Special with Sound Booster
Chronocidal replied to SaitouSad's topic in Toys
You know, I'm actually torn. The yellow was always the weakest part of the fire valk to me, but it wasn't a big deal. The gold looks slightly better in the photos, but I also know how much wear and tear those shoulder pieces go through during transformation, and I imagine the gold will eventually peel and flake (unless they actually use metallic plastic, which it doesn't look like from the pics so far). I guess the big question I have is what color is underneath? And anyway, unless this thing drops in price massively, I don't think a set of figures and shiney paint is enough to justify buying a third one of these. -
Well, I always did think the 2009 Star Trek was the best Star Wars movie since ESB. So.

There's also the fact that at the time the Alto YF-29 came out, Bandai was just coming off the disaster that was the v.1 DX VF-25, and I don't think anyone actually trusted them to make a decent product yet. I don't remember the original release of the YF-29 being in any kind of demand. That really didn't change until the Alto VF-25 came out, because even the original Ozma release had multiple preorder windows. Once it came out, and people realized Bandai could make a decent valk, the preorder madness began, and the market went into a tizzy over anything Bandai released.

I think it means, "We're aware that you made an order.. we're fumbling blindly in the dark for a pen to sign it so we can send it off to the post, so give us a few days." It's not that bad, they just seem to have a history (in my experience) of the "processing" stage taking anywhere from a day to a week.
