Ah, thought you were talking about the booster nozzles. Looks like it would be pretty easy to just mask that part if you really want to maintain its original finish.

Well part of its sheen is in the glossiness of the plastic, so you'll definitely lose some of it if you topcoat it. If you're really concerned about retaining its current look, you can always just pop the boosters off and not coat them. I topcoated my Revival 25F so you can see how it looks here. I used a semi-gloss finish instead of going full matte though.

Bandai also needs to learn to put plastic wrap around the wings like Yamato always did. I have to touch up the painted navigational lights right out of the box.

I was sufficiently annoyed by all three of my YF-19s from the full set packs having loose AF stabilizers that fall off at the slightest touch that I went and bought the reissue. Pretty lame considering that the full set pack wasn't even the first release of this toy. It's a repainted VF-19 Advance with a few minor tweaks and they still botched it up. But at least I finally have a good copy of the second best YF-19 toy out there.

Absolutely. If I accidentally dropped a penny down a sewer grate, that would be a bigger financial loss to me than this is to them. Yeah they're getting their Bluefin sticker back.

So I originally bought two YF-21s from Japan. One arrived intact, the other with a broken head laser. Since Bandai considers it a "quality variance" and refuses to provide any support to replace this one piece (it would be pretty easy to just mail some replacement head lasers out), I went and bought one off Amazon US. The first unit I got from Amazon had a broken head laser too. I immediately exchanged it for a replacement. The replacement unit had an intact laser. So I am sending the broken unit I originally got from Japan in its place and getting a full refund. This is the kind of crap I have to resort to for a simple fix on a pretty expensive toy because Bandai ultimately is a shitty & anti-consumer company. 2 out of 4 units arrived broken. A 50% failure rate is absolutely unacceptable in any product line. (Yes I know this is a tiny sample size but this is a widespread issue and I would not be surprised if the real failure rate is actually pretty close to 50%.)

Bought one even though I don't like this character and the color scheme is merely okay. I'm such a consumer whore. God forbid Bandai actually gives people what they want with the white 262. That would be scandalous!

What's so "limited" about this reissue besides the stand? Did it always come with missiles or did we have to buy the missile sets for those originally? (Mine's been in storage until I get more display cases.)

Now that's a fantastic pic that really shows off how good it looks in battroid! Unfortunately it doesn't fair so well in fighter. Like others have pointed out, the forward fuselage looks too small connected to its overiszed bulbous body. It's like they stuck the Yamato 1/72 nose on a 1/60 airframe.

I would love to see an Arcadia PF YF-21. I love their PF YF-19 and it's the best version of that design, IMO.

Reassembled the ostrich Wanted to do a side by side pic with the Yamato but it's a gigantic hassle to take the Yamato out of the Moducase and Yeti stand just for one pic, so I just stitched an old pic with the new.

A good portion of it is mechanical pencil. I'm so familiar with the VF-1 at this point that I can do through them pretty fast with a pencil. A few spots I used modeler's wash on. That's the thing about Bandai's DX. It's amazingly detailed with lots of tampo printing, but then they cut corners here and there that bring the appearance down, like the unpainted landing gear or tiny TV pilot figures. Then they forget to paint the wing lights on this release. Recent issues with damaged parts right out of the box only makes things worse. These are not things that should be happening when people are spending $250+ on a toy. I can only imagine the outrage in the Gundam community if Bandai released a Metal Build Gundam and decided to go with bare diecast feet instead of painting them red. Anyone interested in a Bandai-Namco brand hair dryer for fixing bent parts?
