  1. His description pretty much sums up EVERY superhero film, with the exception of the Original Superman (from the seventies, not those ones from the forties or fifties).
  2. He was a bad guy, films like the motorcycle diary are trying to humanize the guy rather then demonize.
  3. True, but BSG didn't have a budget for anything else. On the plus side for ST at least there isn't any sunlight coming in through the windows of the brewery into the "engine room", anyone ever see "Space Mutiny"? (if not watch the MST3K version). And finally, a brewery is probably a good thing in Scotty's opinion, perhaps he was the designer...
  4. A show set during reconstruction focusing on someone that took the loss of family very hard would be interesting. Perhaps blaming all Zentradi and hating them, being forced to work with some or get out of (whatever they do). Yup - it's been done a million times (once with a character called Sam Francisco...) but it would fit very well in the reconstruction period.
  5. I would side neither side (Macross, ignoring the latest posts...) is the "good guys". Both the UN and Anti-UN are shown to have noble and ignoble aspects.
  6. My answer is better late then never... I don't remember the other characters yelling so much, but Misa REALLLLLY overdose it a bit. The voice the VA uses for her is grating as well. It is a pity too, in the DVD extras for the show she had a very nice natural voice - she should have just used that as Misa's voice and not tried to kick it up a notch. (yes Misa does yell a lot, but not THAT much)
  7. It's not current and not exactly anime but I watched the first disk of Ultraman Tiga and had and enjoyable romp with it. It was good to see mister U and his slippers again... Just watched the Eureka 7 movie and decided I like the TV show a lot better, the ending credits were neat and the movie was good, just not up to the quality of the show.
  8. Where I live it is considered creepy not to at least pretend to be a prude. Dirty Old Man is not just a saying, it's a lifestyle.
  9. It's been on the short list for years now.
  10. I'm sorry but it just isn't going to work, Bruce Willis NEVER had hair...
  11. Hikaru is a great guy, but for that purpose dump him and replace with Millia.
  12. Can't be just weirdos, I know about it...
  13. I have to ditto that, it would have gotten a better score from me if it were not for the "Noooo" at the end. I will be going to see it in 3D though, unlike the first prequal. Frontier?, Zero?, Loved them both.
  14. I agree that each clips just looks better and better. Seeing the Yamato opening with such detail and fluidity brings a tear to my eye.
  15. Among underage characters, everything. In general I'm also an old fuddy duddy, we have become far too sexualized.
  16. Context, it shows war as something to be avoided if possible, while the innuendo is shown as being acceptable - that is the problem with it.
  17. "We built this city". I remember an interview with someone in the band where the interviewer asked what the song meant, and the band member spouted some gibberish - proving it meant nothing. Still was a catchy song, I'd not listen to it now since after a few hundred times it just gets grating.
  18. I agree with you, while far from perfect (or good) it is a far cry better then Alien 3. My friend's review of Alien 3 was "It is a study in Muave", and that pretty much summed it up perfectly
  19. Speeder bike chase - The point where Lucas went overboard on the effects versus believability. (Death Star trench was not AWESOME enough, let's have them travel at high speed through a forest, fail) Final Duel - Where Luke and Vader forget every bit of sword fighting talent they had in Empire... Topped off by a cackling chicken man doing everything he can to keep Luke from turning to the dark side. (Oh, I forgot, he was supposedly luring Luke TO the dark side). Even with all that, I would watch Jedi 10 billion times before I watch Alien 3 again. (although I do want to see the special edition once, but just once) PS - SyFy news from yesterday has a link to the Donny and Marie Star Wars show, My eyes! My Eyes!
  20. You can rest easy, I've read somewhere that there will be.
  21. I'm just afraid they would not follow those particular examples... (also reminds me, I have to watch Legend) On a seperate note, someone has to remind Webber that TALKING about space battles is not as fun as the battle itself. Luckily the last Honor novel cut down on the conference scenes, hopefully this bodes well for the next novel in his Armageddon Reef series as well.
  22. Ditto, I remember watching it way back and loving the visuals, I then watched the DVD a couple years ago and everything was so dark and murky.
  23. With most of the characters looking like teenagers (due to anagathics in the universe) the look would be right. The usual anime hijinks would be out of place in the Honorverse though, and Nimitz does not really fall into the cute-pet-sidekick territory... In addition to Honor I keep up with the Vorkosigan novels (all of them are excellent) and the "Lost Fleet" novels. I almost gave up on it after the first one but tried out the second and am now hooked, they get better as he goes along. Lots of space battles that really take communications lag at .2 light speed into account. Finally I've been reading the Destroyermen series, a WWII era US destroyer ends up in an alternate universe.
