I appreciate all the Math This DOES all assume its a smoke plume from the actual impact, and I still think its the trail of the Macross as it flew overhead. This could also have been the shake that Shin felt and that woke him up; its the shockwave, not the impact of the ship. So he feels the shockwave, goes outside and see's the glow on the western horizon. That does NOT explain away what you mentioned about the distance of seeing the glow. I hadn't even THOUGHT of the curvature problem. In Macross we see the boom, and it's quite large, but it wouldn't have been a sustained and long lasting light. If they are watching a sustained glowing light from the impact fires from the ship, they MUST be close enough to view that based on the EC. As you say, id the hill they are on is 1000m (Which honestly seems a bit high. The highest natural point in Sydney from the ocean is about 281 metres, and that matches Mt Davidson in San Francisco (The highest point in the city according to google). Views from the top of that look similar to the one's seen in the M0 image. Using the calculator above, that means to see something at Horizon level you would need to be around 60km (37ish miles) to see it. Now I think the fire would be fairly large, so let's generously double it and say 120km away. That's less than half the distance of Tasmania from the southern tip of Australia, a trip of just under 10 hours by boat. Sketchleys idea about a fictional location is starting to have more weight in my mind...

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
The ones in Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Dynamite 7 are broadly indicated to be the initial generation single-use type. By the time of Macross Frontier, the technology had improved to the point that modern (c.2059) fold boosters could perform multiple fold jumps and do so over longer distances. 4th Gen VFs had the concept of inserting a VF behind enemy lines using stealth and/or fold capability in order to strike enemy command centers, carry out hostage rescues, etc., as a part of a larger operation. Escaping via space fold is not mentioned. As with the 5th Gen YF-24 Evolution, use of a fold booster in direct combat is described as a way to maximize the element of surprise, and the VF's extraction from the combat area afterwards isn't mentioned. Presumably in such an operation, they would use stealth and their high flight performance to escape the enemy and then link up with friendly forces. Escape via space fold might be possible in later generations where reusable fold boosters exist, though leaving the booster behind would be quite risky. (There is some material to suggest mounting multiple fold boosters is possible. Macross Frontier shows this being done with the VF-171 and Master File shows the same with a VF-19.) - Today

Just myself, but I really have little interest in prequels. I may change my mind when I see what they do, but when I hear 'prequel' I usually start to tune-out.

They’ve had several spin off related interviews. Some having to do with the written stuff that I’ll probably never read, and animated thingy and at one time there was going to be one about the Ocho, but I think that her side story was something most people disliked and got shelved

Just got home from seeing Avatar. Its a feast for the eyes but definitely borrows much from the second movie and sets up a fourth film. If Cameron makes another Avatar it should be the last and wrap this up.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
aurance replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
So, in footage most fighter sized fold boosters are depicted single use (fold, then eject). I think it’s been mentioned in other media that some of the most advanced fighters (gen 4+) should be able to fold in, decapitate enemy with missile strike, then fold out. How are they supposed to fold back out? Are those boosters *not* single use, but they’re just ejected due to circumstantial inconvenience? -

Looks great. So far I’m usually using lacquers since most of my kits have moving joints, how well do those particular paints you are using hold up on non static models

Hence, my House of Vecna pet theory. . . . Which they’ll probably overly stretch out.

I watched it. I agree with all you said. That title is crazy. -
Looked like there was an interview where they said they're already working on a spin-off related to the rock... A prequel.

It’s on! Excited for this. It looks great so far. 😊 I am going to reference your black bird and stealth for a paint scheme I want to try out in a future mech build. I might reach out a bug you about it when the time comes. Thanks for the inspiration!

Well. It's happened. For a while I was just having trouble getting new Bandai items from HLJ. New Macross HGs, Gundam RGs and MGs... And I was like, OK, I'll just have to get these local when domestic retailers get them. At least I can still get other brands normally through HLJ. But now... I wasn't able to get the Hasegawa VT-1 gerwalk, or the Kotobukiya Armored Core Steel Haze. Both went to backorder without my VERY early pre-orders being fulfilled. What even is going on? Between this and the shipping fees and tariffs, HLJ is becoming a lot less useful.

Primer, pre-shade and painting of the BUFF this morning! Used Vallejo Acrylic Grey surface primer, fantastic stuff! No smell, water based and airbrush straight from the bottle. Also don't know why I don't hear more good things about Mission Models acrylics. They are fantastic! Water based, no smell, NO thinning, airbrush straight from the bottle, dead flat color and soooo easy to put on. Beats Tamiya acrylics by a country mile if you ask me.. 🤔 🙄

General Sci-fi designs across various media
F-ZeroOne replied to M'Kyuun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Another memory bank kicked into stuttering life: when "2000AD" launched, the lead strip wasn't a certain Lawman of the Future, but a reimagined "Dan Dare". Originally drawn by Massimo Belardinelli and later by a certain Dave Gibbons (whatever happened to him?) the strip featured a "mothership" for Dan called a "Space Fortress" (I'm fairly sure, but can't confirm, the name was inspired by the B-17) and a smaller gunship-like craft I forget the name of (possibly, and suitably enough, "Eagle"?) both of which featured technical cutaways in the comic and which were great examples of late 70s style "realistic" spaceships. Speaking of Dave Gibbons, also in "2000AD" was "Rogue Trooper" which over its life featured some amazing "future war" vehicles depicted by various artists including Cam Kennedy and Collin Wilson. An animated movie, directed by Doug Jones, is coming "soon". I'll also mention "Starblazer", which will require a bit of explaining - a long-running fixture of British newsagents (convenience stores) were "Commando" comics, little booklet-size comics usually depicting war stories which has been going for a long time (I think it still is!); for a while it had a SF counterpart, "Starblazer". Some of the covers for "Starblazer" featured amazing late 70s/early 80s SF art, some drawn by the much overlooked Ian Kennedy. And finally there was a series of books that haunted second-hand bookshops for years under the "Terran Trade Authority" banner, being essentially a showcase for various SF themed work by various artists with accompanying fluff text written by Stewart Cowley. -
I utilized Nin-Nin-Game for my pre-order and they are still available at this time. They were cheaper than HLJ, too. Here is a link: https://www.nin-nin-game.com/en/moderoid/209702-moderoid-genesis-climber-mospeada-mospeada-vr-052f-stick-model-good-smile-company-.html MB
