  1. Past hour
  2. Heckuva first post!!! Very nice!! And a hearty welcome to MacrossWorld Forums!
  3. Ooh, perhaps a reserved and dignified "Squeeee!" is in order? Agree on the Tron Lightcycle- timing's great for a nice crossover.
  4. Right there with you. I say this looking at my gorgeous Yamato 1/60 Blazer Valkyrie and YF-19. That's a design you just don't mess with.
  5. *chases judge down the hall*
  6. Aghhh... I've been real busy. I was suppose to post an update last week but then made some changes and figured I would hold off. I made an update on the "SENSOR INSIDE" emboss for a fourth version 'D'... a combination of 'B' and 'C' (the two most liked versions). I did size up the lettering yet its still barely visible. I'll have to check the exposure calibration settings for the resin (again) since the temps here in NYC have been fluctuating from 80s to 50s the last two weeks. There are four color combinations (so far): 1) Blue lettering with Red Visor 2) Red lettering with Green Visor 3) Red lettering with Red Visor 4) Blue lettering with Green Visor 1) and 4) have been my favorite so far. Everything is still being held together by Blu-Tak so it's just a hair gaped. I did the 603 SMD LED wiring last week, took pictures and all but then got the bright idea to model in wire channels/paths into and printed the parts. Good news is that it worked out really well for the head parts... bad news that I might not have enough room for the Bay Doors Beam Ports (sorry not pictured) unless I really cram in the wiring and solder the wires in tighter constraints/spacing on the 603s or use 402 SMD LEDs and I don't have any, LOL. Also 30 AWG wire was used. For the Canopy Windows I went through the sanding, polishing, Future process last week and realized I made it all more difficult for no reason. I also ran into an issue about how to Future the VF22S side windows (I laid them down flat 🤦‍♂️ LOL). My solution/workaround was to re-orient the window parts so that they're floating with supports contacting none of the viewing surfaces inside or out. The results: canopy windows that can be dipped into Future without having to sand (unless needed, some light sanding does help). Just snip off some of the extra supports, dip into Future and set in a container to dry for 24-48 hrs (tedious and painstaking time consuming process). I batch printed the the Antennas and they're pretty much ready to go. two passes with a red Sharpe marker and three passes with cotton swabs and alcohol clean up the parts pretty well. Same process applies for the head pieces. I used some Blu-Tak to hold up the antennas for the pics, so if you see a little bit of a darker spot in the center its the Blu-Tak. Just as a reference... the XL AAL is about the same length as the YF/VF-19 DX Antenna. The AALs have a decent amount of flex to them too... Other pics idk/forgot to put in the post:
  7. This is looking really great, keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing
  8. I’m still having fun with it despite the problems and the time travel/multiverse stuff. A what if story seemed more interesting to me if they just stuck to that without the goofiness of the extremely overdone Time travel Multiverse shenanigans that are plaguing every franchise these days.
  9. Today
  10. Fantastic progress! I did something similar (paint/decals) with a 1/72 VF-25. and P.S. welcome to the board!!
  11. I'm still thoroughly enjoying the series, I agree the premise isn't being explored quite as deep as it could, there's almost endless potential in an alt-universe UC timeline, but I'm still enjoying myself. That said, I love me some What If, so this series has been right up my alley for the most part.
  12. No, no I am not. That "reveal" was so incredibly obvious that I don't think it even counts as any kind of spoiler. I mean, come the f*** on... who didn't guess that the Mysterious Blonde Man who goes by an Obvious Alias, conceals the upper half of his face, and otherwise both looks and sounds exactly like the missing Char Aznable is Char Aznable? Especially in the mid-UC 0080's, where Char has already infamously done that once before in Zeta Gundam as under the rather atrocious alias Quattro Vageena. 'bout the best they did to try and hide it even a little was cast Yuuki Shin instead of longtime Char voice actor Shuichi Ikeda... but that's still an actor with prior credits playing Char. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX does absolutely bloody nothing to foreshadow that Shuji Ito is...
  13. I was compiling a list of cars I wanted to check out with her when the lease was originally up next summer, and the Lyriq was on my shortlist. I haven't looked at the Optiq yet. What's attracting me to the iX though are the number of people who are saying how reliable it's been. Seriously, the only complaints I'm hearing (aside from the exterior aesthetics) is that the public charging speeds are a little slower than the competitors (something I think they addressed for the 2025 model?), but we charge at home so it's kind of irrelevant to us. One thing to note, I'm mostly shopping used. Over the last few years a TON of EVs were leased out on a mix of manufacturers running some crazy lease deals and dealerships pushing them for tax credits, so the used market is full of 1-3 year old cars with relatively low mileage going for like half the price of a new one. There's a dealership nearby with a CPO '22 iX xdrive50 with around 25k miles for $48k. Closest CPO Lyriq is 170 miles away (though, if I don't care so much about CPO, Carvana's got some of both). So here's a story... I was driving with my wife, my kid, and my parents in the EV9. The road curves toward a light, and I was stopped in the left lane because I was planning to drive straight through but turn left at the following light. The light turned green, and I start going forward... as does the traffic in the right lane. Because of the curve, I guess, the Kia thought the car behind us to the right, despite not leaving its lane, was coming at us. And whatever smart features Kia baked in decided to drive to avoid the accident by steering itself into the turning lane. It was thankfully empty, otherwise the car would have jerked control from me and caused an accident to avoid an accident that wasn't going to happen in the first place. So, yeah, our Know It All could have left us K.I.A. (I leave those "safety" features alone in my wife's car, but I turned off everything but the parking sensors in the Porsche.)
  14. @SteveTheFish That's sad. Marking down for "not weathered enough" is not cool. That choice is up to the modeller. That can also be fixed by noting what you did on the judging sheet and why. A lot of people don't know that they SHOULD make special notes. The last contest I judged, someone did some Gundams with a wood finish to them. We didn't mark them down because that's not what a Gundam looks like, but the wood effect was very bad. Like @woodsider said, things are changing A LOT! VERY rarely are models made out of wood anymore. They are now plastic. That's a paradigm shift. Sci-fi becoming VERY popular is the latest shift. Allowing 3D printed models in Gundam competitions is the next one. 😉 @pengbuzz Judges Pengbuzz's model and notes, "Left masking tape on model." 🤣 - MT
  15. Looking amazing! I'm a strong proponent of painting as much of the markings on an aircraft as possible.
  16. Hi All! I'm new to the forum, I've been into Macross and Robotech since I was a kid in the 80's. I started building models again during the pandemic and I started my first Macross project at the beginning of the year. I'm building a custom 1/48 Hasegawa VF-1S in a "What If?" US Navy Jolly Rogers low viz paint scheme. I added elements from both the Hasegawa and Jasmodel PE sets, as well as some custom details from my parts box, most notably the chin sensor from a 1/72 Academy F-14A to replace the stock gun pod sensor. I also added custom hydraulic line details to the landing gear and gear bays with wire strands, as well as sanding down the edges of the landing gear doors to get a better scale appearance. I used a combination of 1/72 F-14 decals for the squadron markings since they fit the small size of the Valkyrie better, 1/48 F-14 data stencils for most of the other markings, and a few select stock kit decals. I tried a multi-layer acrylic ink patina technique for the primary painting and weathering, which is supplemented by a grimy enamel wash, and oil paint weathering. I'm almost to the finish line, I just have a bunch of small details, and the oil weathering to complete before final assembly. Current state of the build. Legs, wings, head, and landing gear are not glued in yet. Custom sensor mechanics for the head built out of spare PE parts. It will be complete impossible to see once assembled. 😅 Cockpit. I haven't decided if I will use the kit pilot, an aftermarket pilot (I'm leaning towards using a resin F-35 pilot since the helmet looks pretty futuristic but still grounded in reality), or leaving it empty. I'll add PE belts if I leave it empty. I went my own way with the exhaust nozzles, I used the F-22 nozzles as inspiration and added both Hasegawa and Jasmodel PE to the interior along with some custom scribing on the exterior for more detail and to break up the shapes. The wheels got some sanding and scribing to add tread ridges. Sanding and cleanup on the landing gear door edges to make them look more in scale. The left one has been done and the right one is still stock. More cleanup on the main gear doors. Left one is stock and the right one has been modified. The curves were a pain to do, but worth it. Finished gun pod. This was my first go at oil weathering and I think it came out great. I also had an extra set of the Jolly Rogers Vagabond stripes on the decal sheet so I added them to the gun for some interest. I've seen one Tomcat where they did the stripes on the fuel tanks and like the look. You can also see the sensor from the F-14 instead of the stock sensor bump. I sanded off the hydraulic lines on the landing gear struts and added them back in with wire. I also hollowed out the pivot braces for a more realistic look. I added some hydraulic lines to the wheel wells. I didn't go too crazy since it's extremely fiddly and time consuming, but another little detail that's worth it IMO. Painted nose and main gear struts: Painted main gear doors with red caution edging: Close up of the nose gear with the wheels on. It's really starting to look great at this point. Leg light/sensor packs filled with clear UV resin. I still need to paint them with transparent red and blue. Aux head sensor filled with resin and tinted red. Resin lens for the gun pod. I'm using the DYRL canopy so I had to scrape, sand, and polish the seam down. I also used the Jasmodel interior PE canopy frames.
  17. Understood; I feel the same way about my work, I just don't like it being judged by folks whose criteria is so esoteric that it was formed back when you had to make your own models out of stones and sticks!
  18. I’d still like to have the experience of the model show at least once since I’m so curious about it. At the end of the day building is for me since it’s fun, personal and challenging. It’s not to be better than someone else. I like the idea of sharing the work I do/have done with others who are interested. 😊
  19. This is one reason why I don't enter contests or shows: too many "judges" I feel are so stodgy or set in their ways that their criteria for decisions is way off, They'd utterly hate how much masking tape I use on my stuff.
  20. So in other words... exactly what we expected!!
  21. Macross F Final - some theathers in Hong Kong, Korea amd Taiwan can catch the concert. Maybe there's internet viewing soon, https://liveviewing.jp/overseas/macrossf-final2025-eng/?fbclid=IwY2xjawLA-2VleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETE3YXN4ak1DOEhaT1pZcFlVAR64JJ_C5UNL_c_ax0ILhuQi3lb2QvD-bphschYrUxxJdu-nt4pLJ0o1Y9uyOQ_aem_ICbYPGCXpF7YTUjPrjh_Tg
  22. According to the press release, the film has been described by those who have not yet read the script as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film".
