Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
What he said. As far as I am aware, both from written material and from line art, the VT-1 and VE-1 are supposed to be using the same kind of conventional bell nozzles as the VF-1 in their Super parts. From what I was able to find on a quick search, this appears to be a particular eccentricity of the Hasegawa plastic model kits for the VT-1 and VE-1. The Bandai DX Chogokin and Hi-Metal toys show a conventional bell nozzle like what's in the line art. -

That's not them expositing to explain themselves and to close out the story. That was just them using old mysteries as a springboard to invent more new bs to add to the chaos.- 3915 replies

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
sketchley replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
To the best of my knowledge, the nozzles are exactly the same on the VE-1. Perhaps it was artistic licence on behalf of the modeller that made that specific kit? Compare to the nozzles here: http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/Statistics/VF-1/VE-1.php -
It does come with a few autobot tickers, but that’s it. Damn, now I want something other than those. Oh well. Overall a very nice piece. Obviously not the quality of a Bandai or Yamato, I can’t speak to the Arcadia it’s ripped off from.

Comparing my Wave and ARII 1/72 Tomahawks (except not really)
DeltaE27 replied to DeltaE27's topic in Model kits
Thank you! Yeah, they are very different. I believe originally made by different companies too (ARII vs Imai) which could explain it, but in practical terms they differ in detail, shaping, articulation, construction…basically as different as you can get for something that’s in universe the same basic design. Grabbed some random images from online that show the difference between the ARII tomahawk and Imai defender (which I stole and transplanted onto my Tomahawk) molds. Not a big fan of the horizontally stretched out search light. And no I don’t know why this modeler installed the tomahawk foot upside-down. -

Dumb question....why are the nozzles on the VE-1 shaped like this instead of the standard bell style on the fast back? -

Thanks Bolt, I usually make them up out of cut off trim pieces and stain them. I find a good base or plinth really enhances a piece.

If they do, I hope they use Tomino's official universe-destroying giant robot. Wouldn't even be the first time Ideon's showed up in Gundam.- 3915 replies

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
mikeszekely replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So, I don't have a lot of details and there's been a lot of hurdles to jump through what with Hasbro and Marvel being buddies so DC normally siding with Mattel. I don't know if they're planning on doing a Batmobile or Batwing, and I don't know when you should officially expect to hear anything about it (though SDCC or "Batman Day," the third Saturday in September, are possible candidates). But yes, a Batman crossover is (or at least was) on the schedule for this year.- 17285 replies

A Little Teaser of a Conversion Kit...
PsYcHoDyNaMiX replied to PsYcHoDyNaMiX's topic in The Workshop!
Aghhh... I've been real busy. I was suppose to post an update last week but then made some changes and figured I would hold off. I made an update on the "SENSOR INSIDE" emboss for a fourth version 'D'... a combination of 'B' and 'C' (the two most liked versions). I did size up the lettering yet its still barely visible. I'll have to check the exposure calibration settings for the resin (again) since the temps here in NYC have been fluctuating from 80s to 50s the last two weeks. There are four color combinations (so far): 1) Blue lettering with Red Visor 2) Red lettering with Green Visor 3) Red lettering with Red Visor 4) Blue lettering with Green Visor 1) and 4) have been my favorite so far. Everything is still being held together by Blu-Tak so it's just a hair gaped. I did the 603 SMD LED wiring last week, took pictures and all but then got the bright idea to model in wire channels/paths into and printed the parts. Good news is that it worked out really well for the head parts... bad news that I might not have enough room for the Bay Doors Beam Ports (sorry not pictured) unless I really cram in the wiring and solder the wires in tighter constraints/spacing on the 603s or use 402 SMD LEDs and I don't have any, LOL. Also 30 AWG wire was used. For the Canopy Windows I went through the sanding, polishing, Future process last week and realized I made it all more difficult for no reason. I also ran into an issue about how to Future the VF22S side windows (I laid them down flat 🤦♂️ LOL). My solution/workaround was to re-orient the window parts so that they're floating with supports contacting none of the viewing surfaces inside or out. The results: canopy windows that can be dipped into Future without having to sand (unless needed, some light sanding does help). Just snip off some of the extra supports, dip into Future and set in a container to dry for 24-48 hrs (tedious and painstaking time consuming process). I batch printed the the Antennas and they're pretty much ready to go. two passes with a red Sharpe marker and three passes with cotton swabs and alcohol clean up the parts pretty well. Same process applies for the head pieces. I used some Blu-Tak to hold up the antennas for the pics, so if you see a little bit of a darker spot in the center its the Blu-Tak. Just as a reference... the XL AAL is about the same length as the YF/VF-19 DX Antenna. The AALs have a decent amount of flex to them too... Other pics idk/forgot to put in the post:- 12 replies

I’m still having fun with it despite the problems and the time travel/multiverse stuff. A what if story seemed more interesting to me if they just stuck to that without the goofiness of the extremely overdone Time travel Multiverse shenanigans that are plaguing every franchise these days.- 3915 replies

I'm still thoroughly enjoying the series, I agree the premise isn't being explored quite as deep as it could, there's almost endless potential in an alt-universe UC timeline, but I'm still enjoying myself. That said, I love me some What If, so this series has been right up my alley for the most part.- 3915 replies

No, no I am not. That "reveal" was so incredibly obvious that I don't think it even counts as any kind of spoiler. I mean, come the f*** on... who didn't guess that the Mysterious Blonde Man who goes by an Obvious Alias, conceals the upper half of his face, and otherwise both looks and sounds exactly like the missing Char Aznable is Char Aznable? Especially in the mid-UC 0080's, where Char has already infamously done that once before in Zeta Gundam as under the rather atrocious alias Quattro Vageena. 'bout the best they did to try and hide it even a little was cast Yuuki Shin instead of longtime Char voice actor Shuichi Ikeda... but that's still an actor with prior credits playing Char. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX does absolutely bloody nothing to foreshadow that Shuji Ito is...- 3915 replies
