Hey thanks. Love the weapon diorama and the Dom looks great! The cat meme. Lol We currently have a silly dingo running the show in our home. He’s a good boi. We used to have three cats but due to old age they are no longer with us. They had a great life. We talk about adopting and will probably make the leap in the summer. Well I have another kit on bench. I finally completed all sub assembles on my current build “Terror Mirage” and it’s ready for primer. I sort of like to stay busy and having builds cycling smoothly in tandem feels right. I scored this kit from @tekering Thanks again! I’ll do my very best to make it look awesome! It’s an early Volks KOG. Basically garage kit injection model I think the translation says. So I assume it’s the same design they used for the resin kit? Have to look into it. All the parts have been super tight and wonky. There are callouts in the manual that say you will need to putty this are and that area etc…since this will have a gap here and there. Cracks me up that instead of a good mold they are saying it’s all on you now. Lol Also comes with a bunch of generic polycap sprues that you need to trim down to certain shapes and sizes to fit. That’s a first for me. I kind of dig it Anyway I’m loving it and this build has very few parts and assembly goes quick. Clean up later.

That's looks like an Arcadia YF-19 not the Yamato. yeah this post was totally wrong

They spent 5 years knowing that was a B tier product before they finally convinced themselves to make it any way. Fingers crossed for VE-1 next... Sure fire winner followed by a TWE gamble.

I will be very wary of that from Bandai and their DX Macross line. Think the last time Bandai actually did something new and showed quite some "effort" for their DX Macross line was with their DX YF-21... 🤣
-
haha, might get an armor roy if the price is decent.
-
Is that a little Kingfisher plane I spot there? Remember building a bigger one way back when I was a kid. . . and then having bits of it fall off over the years. 😅
-
I was thinking that maybe since they a reissuing the GBP Roy in April the wanted to take the opportunity to make more Roy's VF-1S to recoup some of the money having to refurbish the moulds, this way both can be produced back too back.... Just hope afterward the do something new and show some effort again!

Minor iteration. "Fattened" the cheeks and reshaped the mandibles to angle inwards a bit, as well as maneuvered the notches around the eye to expose it a bit more. Also added the vent fins on the top for a better filled in look there. Maybe? Dunno, may also try an alternate color scheme as that helped clarify the shape on the earlier one when I was working on it. Anyway, onwards and sideways!

https://twitter.com/simsim5479/status/2015784922867523850 web-translated: Maybe Bandai should've just made more Armored-Roy available instead. But that will make way too much logical sense for Bandai 🤡, tho... 🥱

If I may chime in as an owner of both; After seeing jenius's glowing review, I picked up 2 of the Yamatos (one of each type) when Bandai first announced the release causing Yammie prices to plummet temporarily. I thought they were excellent toys, but yeah, they kinda do need some support in battroid/gerwalk. Personally, I love the incredible detail that Bandai puts into their valks, but with the dark blue color, I really don't feel it's necessary and like the simpler look of the Yamato. I'm a huge fan of the DX line in general, and usually MUCH prefer them to Arcadia/Yamato offerings, but this is the one sole exception for me (altho, I will pass on the DX 17 and am looking for a Yamato version). The only saving grace of the DX is the bigger legs. Otherwise, I hate how the backpack was designed, and the fighter mode just doesn't look right either. If I could swap the DX legs onto the Yamato, I would. But there's no models except battroid only, non-transforming ones that really get the anime magic right in battroid where the backpack isn't ginormous. Kinduv impossible otherwise. Btw, I would NOT recommend settling for the 1/72 Yamato version! It is complete garbage imho. And because everyone likes pics, here's my Yamato YF-21 posed with my DX YF-19:

Yeah, it's a "get both and be satisfied by neither" situation. Fingers crossed for a renewal or Arcadia some day.

I find it interesting that some fans of Masterpiece Transformers are having the same complaints about Takara management and the stagnation of the line. For fans of the original Sunbow toon series like myself, we have not had a new toon release for three years. Just repaints or figures from other series. And we are 20 releases into the MPG reboot of Masterpiece with some fans buying zero of those 20 because not one figure has appealed to them. We are told by factory leakers that new Sunbow toon figures are coming, but we are still waiting. I've also noticed that Japanese car companies are making some pretty large fumbles and upsetting long time fans of their cars as well. Sony just announced that they are using another company to make their TVs. Etc., etc. It seems like every Japanese company has forgotten what their customers want. But I suspect it is the disastrous economy in Japan that may be the actual cause of all of this. Back on topic, I already own SDFM Roy and I'm still waiting for a new SDFM release. Money saved I guess.

WOW, a lot of great responses. This is a really helpful summary; I didn't really know what to expect, but makes sense that there would be such great detailed impressions on mwf. Thanks everyone! As expected, no right or wrong answer here. Really depends on the individual. I'm guessing I'm like most collectors where both whooshing and fighter display take slightly higher priority. Too bad those two requirements seem to be at odds in this case. (Check that, I guess the only right answer is to get both, hahahahahaha)

if you want a bent antenna lottery get the bandai dx and be ready to return and rebuy the chance you get a bent one.

Eh, there’s certain things about the Bandai battroid and Gerwalk that I still despise. The backpack’s too fat and thick in battroid mode, whereas the Yamato has a thinner side profile. Still hate the shorter bellyplates too. No ventral vents on Bandai’s Gerwalk mode. And the FP armor for the hips is a different length from the regular bellyplates. I’m pretty sure the Bandai has stronger joints, but its looks and design choices just do nothing for me.

Originally there was a display stand (look picture) stand but the product page changed in February 2024 and the stand has disappeared from the description.- 2671 replies

One thing that's clear about this release is at least the line isn't dead yet! And I have a strong feeling the DX series will finally get this, this year! Or I certainly hope so! 🤗 But if they don't have someone to give the Macross series their full effort internally they should outsource a company to put the DX & Hi-Metal R series back on track! or a consultant that can bring these series back on track!
-
Yep, I think it really depends on which mode you want to display/swoosh it in. Yamato wins fighter mode by a landslide, but the other two modes have stability issues, and will need a stand. Also has significantly less "detail" than the Bandai, but whether those details are a positive or negative feature is really up to the individual. All in all, it's more like an aircraft model with two incidental alternate modes. I'll echo Jenius' thoughts on the Bandai in general though, it's a much better overall toy, in the sense that it handles and poses well. I think if the Yamato had never existed, we would all be a lot more forgiving of its flaws. If you're looking for one to pickup, the Bandai also gets the market saturation bonus, since it's much easier to get a copy of. If you're after something to pose and display in battroid or gerwalk, it just makes more sense to get the Bandai one right now. If you want a fighter mode... I'd still get the Bandai DX, and then depending on your ability with model building, I'd either get one of the 1/100 Bandai HG YF-21 kits to display as a fighter, or one of the 1/72 Hasegawa kits. Any of those will be easier on your wallet than tracking down a Yamato in good shape at this point.
-
Depends on your personal thresholds. I say just get both to satisfy your urges. I do highly suggest to try to get the DX-21 at or below US$200 shipped, tho. The Yammie-21 is ancient, so you're at the mercy of scalpers for pricing...
-
I’m glad to see our fandom community growing. I always see questions or comments about first time viewing the series or advice on which toys to get.

Back in the day, a big Macross fan ran Hi Metal R, that's how we got destroids and the Vf-2SS, then they cycled managers and we've been on cruise control ever since.
-
To play a lot with it, tranform it several times, take a pictures and so on, hands down Bandai since it is more sturdy and plastic is relatively new while Yamato is extremely fiddly and since it is quite old toy it can be very brittle. If you want only to display, Bandai if you want Battroud mode and Yamato if you want a fighter mode. This is my currente set up. Bandai for Battroid mode, both 19 and 21, and Yamato/Arcadia both for fighter mode.

For anyone who owns both the yamato and bandai YF-21: can you offer any opinions on which is the best 1/60 YF-21? I know @jenius wrote in his reviews that the yamato is the overall better choice, but he also pointed out that gerwalk and battroid mode needs a stand which seems like a significant flaw. Any second opinions? Thanks!
