GUNBUSTER Aim for the Top!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, if there is already an existing Gunbuster thread I couldn't find it. Mods, if there is one, do your magic. B))

While doing a random search on AmiAmi yesterday I saw these under in the Pre-order section, I was rather surprised to see new Gunbuster products for PO. If ever an Anime series has stuck with me all these years, it has been Gunbuster. Just seeing the Eltreum & Exelion was enough for me to order two sets!

Thank you, good sir. B))

I like this Gunbuster but I have to admit, I'd love to see Bandai do a re-issue or a whole new mold of its GX-34 with improved joints & better plastic. Every time I'm tempted to get one of off Mandarake, there's always pics of the plastic cracking or getting ready too.

Thanks for letting us know about those kits!  It's about time someone made plastic kits of the ships!  I don't know anything about that company, Bellfine, but I already ordered a set.

That soft vinyl kit is a reissue of a garage kit from the 90s.  I actually built one, many years ago.  It's a great looking kit, but vinyl is a pain to work with.  Eliminating the seams took forever.

I also found this one on HLJ.  It looks like they took that same kit and scaled it up, making it about 20 inches tall!

I found one more Gunbuster kit from Kaiyodo.  Looks like they've taken that same soft vinyl kit and made an injection molded version of it.

It's pretty crazy to see how many new models Gunbuster is getting for this anniversary, after getting next to nothing for the past 35 years!

Heh, awesome.

Random aside, but does anyone know where this poster is from? Or does anyone happen to have a high quality scan? I can't seem to find the origin of it, and it has a bunch of neat little details about the interior of the Gunbuster's machinery. I'm dying to read it.

Also, does ANYONE know where I can find the "Aim for the top! NeXT GENERATION" (1989/2007) manga online? I've only been able to find a single chapter, when there's suppose to be 17 total.
(Not to be confused with the other NeXTGen manga, "Aim for the Top! NeXT GENERATION ~Battleship Alexion Edition" (1991), which is available on Manga Library Z.)

I cannot read Kanji, but the Bandai/Victor copyright notice at the bottom suggests that it may have been from a soundtrack album release.

The box art is absolutely gorgeous!

The kits are molded in their respected colors and with a quality paint job, wash & decals... these should look really good.

The ELTREUM measures just about 14 inches long, so that's pretty cool!

Hi all, I'm making a little bit of progress on the Gunbuster model kits, I started with the Exelion & Eltreum. The kits themselves are nicely molded and look like the line art, that said they are very basic with little to no detail or any real panel lining... so I added my own plus some spare photo-etch parts I had leftover & used them on the Eltreum.

I have decent weather out here the next few days so I might give these a good basecoat and try for some actual painting.

@no3Ljm If there is info out there, I can't find any, do you by chance know any specifics on that CCS Gunbuster in terms of height, cost & does it transform like the old Bandai DX?

Hey @505thAirborne. It stands around 11in. There's no info if it transforms. Mostly are just weapons and open parts gimmicks.

Price on the other hand, TFSource at $369.99. ChosenPrime at $369.99. OhMyPrimus at $251.12. ShowZ/Gudamit at $352.99. Bombusbee at $249.99. BBTS at $369.99. USAGundamStore at $339.99. With Q1 2024 release.

I think most stores that offered it at $300-something looks like the shipping is included.

I love the work you're putting into upgrading these.

Mega Sofvi in da house!  🤗

ndahouse.jpg.81d2ba49112141e8e7b37b9c9f122e08.jpg

Finally, a GunBuster big enough to display with other robot figures. ☺️

GunBusterscale.jpg.cc482fe4f7f179d83aeeb1d9871bd21c.jpg

Every other GunBuster toy or model is so small, it doesn't really scale with anything...

...but at roughly 1:450 scale, the Mega Sofvi works with my smallest Mobile Suits, at least. 🤓

Will you be getting the CCS Toys Gunbuster as well?

No, it's an awesome piece with some wonderful display options, but it's just not big enough to justify the cost.  If I'm spending over $300, I expect something appropriately massive. 😋

It has inspired me to make a cape for my Mega Sofvi, however. 😇

I don't know if I'd even have a place to display something that big.

At 53cm, it's not hard to make space for...

GunBusterondisplay.jpg.2e6eb6cba5b5d92a4e1cb871e0bffd2a.jpg

It's got great shelf presence, but it's not nearly as big as some third-party combiners, much less my "Jumbo Grade" mobile suits...  In fact, it's not even among the ten largest figures I own.

I wish it was bigger, actually. :p
