I was just going to post this one, we just watched it. For those curious, it's a film in 4 parts/chapters, has an 80's vibe to it, good solid acting, you start to question if Tarantino had any involvement and then you realize you're watching one of the better movies made in a very long time. I recommend it. The first 2 parts are ok, part 3 is where it kicks into high gear. Quote

Big s Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Watched The Monkey on Hulu over the weekend. Lots of jokes and very entertaining death gags, but mostly a basic story that’s a bit too predictable which kinda takes out the tension. Quote

Tking22 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 A Jesus horror movie with Nic Cage? Sounds completely on brand for the dude, could be fun. Quote
Old_Nash_II Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I admit I thought it was Nicolas Cage acting in this movie, just because of the joke. Quote
Mog Posted August 27 Posted August 27 So, I know I’m way late on this, but finally watched Logan Lucky. Fun little heist film with some low-key, surprisingly funny bits and scenes. Quote
Dynaman Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Deathstalker eh? I'll watch it when it comes out streaming. I have fond memories of it - or was it The Sword and the Sorcerer - or a mix of both... Quote

I love B style dark fantasy movies from back in the day. And this has some odd casting as well as Slash as an executive producer. It’s either gonna be great or terrible in a great way, and either way it might be great to watch Quote
Dynaman Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Speaking of Deathstalker. Anyone else wish they would do a remake of Hawk the Slayer? Too bad Jack Palance is no longer with us. Quote

Just saw the og listed on Amazon, might rewatch it this weekend. I don’t know that these movies really need remakes, but rather just original films. The og dark fantasy questionable budget films were great, but probably don’t really have a name recognition that’s gonna bring a new or even old audience. I’d rather they just make new stories. I think there’s plenty of room for brutal low budget fantasy movies these days. Quote

Too bad Jack Palance is no longer with us. So I did a rewatch last night and honestly for the most part it’s really bad. I remember a lot better. The dialogue is delivered by mostly amateur actors and there’s some really cheesy fights. Oddly the backgrounds look like they’re mostly drawn in by children’s book illustrators and that’s sometimes close backgrounds. Jack Palance plays the oldest older brother ever here for some hilarity. A good majority of the movie is built on the same scene basically done over and over again. A character is in trouble and either the main character or a friend of the main character gets into a challenge with the people causing problems, usually starting with one of the group getting killed off and one or two members being left to challenge a hero character in some way. The music is actually the best part of the movie and mostly because it’s weird and catchy. Like an odd mix of renaissance fair and disco. It sounds like a horrible match, but I gotta give credit to whoever did this soundtrack bet the made that awkward mix somehow work, like I said it’s really kinda catchy the way it’s set up. It could easily have been something more to add to the train wreck of a movie, but here it stands out and kinda makes things feel bigger than they really are. Quote

Can't argue there but the machine gun crossbow and Elf archer with the deadpan delivery (is that genius acting or REALLY BAD acting). makes the show. Or was it Jack Palance chewing up the scenario, the script, and everything else the draw? Or perhaps the dialog between the dwarf and giant? Rifftrax does a riff on this one, so that adds to the fun too. Quote

Definitely don’t try and watch it seriously, because it’s pretty bad. But there’s bits here and there that are kinda interesting. Jack Palance is always great to see, but a little weird here with the britishy accent. He is however the best actor in the movie although he’s like 50 years older than his younger brother. I’ll have to try and find the rifftrax version, I didn’t think to search for that and watched to regular version. Quote
