hey, i got one of those !! not built it yet, and yeh , its the lightning versino, heaps cool!

i forgot to get paint thinner for the mr hobby paints but am gonna paint mine all up =-)

so how long it take for you to build up yours? ?

ABout 6-8 Painful hours.

Its the wiring that is the pain. Very small wires and thin so you need to be extra careful about slotting them into the grooves

Also takre care in using the proper lengths. I made a mistake with the leg wires instead of using the wrong ones then i needed to pull apart the legs and start over again

lol, well, I look forward to it with trepidation then! I have heard the wiring was a bit of a worry, hopefully it works out fine in the end!

I think i will be checking then double then triple checking those wires ! ;-)

Happened to me too :p

I built it together with my brother and we were kinda underwhelmed at the range of movements as well. Strangely, I feel the kit looks better without the wings...

Yes, they are AKO Conversions... with a few modifications. The left is the GM Sniper conversion, and the right is the GM Spartan. For the Spaaaaartan, I used the legs from the MG Nemo. I wanted to make it look more like the GM's from 0080. Unfortunately, I lost some of my WIP pieces for the gun as I was moving to a new place at the time, as such the rifle/shotgun/whatever is incomplete :( .

Yeah, the GM Spartan does look better with the MG Nemo legs. For what it's worth, I didn't notice the gun was incomplete, as it gives off a high-tech shotgun-ish look :D

well, after waiting a full week, i finally received this ginormous box at my front door.

in it, was what i was expecting to be the quintessential japanese plastic model building

experience of my life. well, i wasn't disappointed. have a look:

now if that isn't the biggest, most complex-a$$ model kit any of you have ever seen,

then there must be some real serious-a$$ mecha model die-hards out there!!

so, what do all these scads of parts build?

this is my single most favorite mecha design from the "MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM" universe.

a series that has existed since 1979, with many sequels made to date. this model is of the main

"MOBILE SUIT" from the first sequel to the original 1979 series, 1985's "MOBILE SUIT ZETA GUNDAM"

now, while the GUNDAM series is hardly my favorite in the Mecha Anime universe...

(i'm more of a MACROSS VF-1 VALKYRIE junkie myself)

...i still happen to have my own personal favorite GUNDAM, and this is it. now, i have always dreamed

and lusted for the concept of a model-building experience of this grade of technical complexity,

and for a model kit of of just exactly that stripe to exist of one of my favorite Mecha designs,

rather than some ungainly horror or another (think "NEON GENESIS EVANGELION" here)

means that this model has had my name written all over it since inception back in 2000.

now then, let's go over some of the finer points if this sucker:

landing gear struts, made out of high-quality, polished zinc. they are heavy for their size, and have a very nice ring to them when jumbled together. Quality.

a light-up beam saber. this is comprised of the beam blade, which is actually a specialized LED. and a special battery,

that fits in the Beam Saber's hilt:

now, you may have noticed all those little plastic bags, with the color coded paper sheets in them, back up there

in the kit layout shot. four of those contain the five different types of screws needed to fasten the kit together (about 80 total)

while the bulk of those bags contain various types of steel and brass electrical terminals. all those terminal plates (and long lengths of fine wire)

are needed to allow the finished model this feature:

plus, the model is actually designed so that it can be transformed with all the lights remaining ON.

that is actually quite a technical achievement, to be sure.

and finally, one final piece of amazing technical engineering:

the hands. not only are they individually jointed, but somehow, BANDAI actually engineered the digits to be cast on their parts frame in one piece,

with the joints pre-connected!! clip a digit off the frame, and it's instantly bendable, with it's pre-formed ball and pin joints! incredible!!

well, as you can see, the arm units are as far as i have gotten since receiving this kit in the mail just yesterday (10/23/09)

and i'm truly enjoying the experience. i'll be back, with the finished model. until then, i'll leave you with these shots:

they're not kidding.

the model is very back-heavy, and the hip joint assembly doesn't hold its position tight enough.

i've had mine fall over backwards/make splits, then fall over.

overall, it's an impressive kit. but unfortunately, it was engineered too early for its time.

how i wish that it would've been engineered around the time the PG Strike was made.

i actually prefer the MG v2.0 engineering, especially the "swing bars" for the wing armor.

My PG stands just fine but the best PG to date has to be the MK II. It looks like a machine built for combat. With the PG OO Raiser coming which should really be the best PG

I think he is refering to the MG Zeta. I have the V2 and it cant stand for shi t, but overall is very good and incorporates the design features from the PG

I think the dust might help in preventing yellowing. I mean the dust is like a thin blanket preventing light from penetrating the plastic layers NO???

I keep my models and Valks in a display case. And the shades are pulled in both of their locations (TV is nearby in one, and the computer is nearby in another). I haven't had anything yellow yet.

I might be getting a PG GP-01, any thing I should know about the kit?

I second this. That's why when you look at most peoples displays, the Zeta is toward the back. Mine leans against the back of the shelf, I've managed to get it balanced before but I don't trust it on it's own. Like Zero, this thing really needs a stand.

Great kit. I love mine personally, not a single regret. The stand makes for an awesome diorama. It's a bit clunky compared to some other kits, but still works very well. I've always held a shred of hope for a PG GP02 to accompany it though...

That is a beautiful Kit

I wish i can buy it but i have my sites on PG Astray and OO Raiser at the moment

Its an expensive kit

I always consult dalong before making a buy, except for PG kits because I know I'll like them. I love how he's been doing Koto kits more lately as well. I recommend checking out his display setup, it's nuts!

I have quite the collection of kotobukiya Zoids. Waiting on Kong Mk II and Fast Pack Sniper for those

and i have only two armored core but plan on expanding. I dont like their super robot lineup which is too close to the 1/144 neograde from bandai.
