The Tears, The Vibe, The Shakes?

We all get it, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when the action hots up, especially when

the speakers are turned up full ball. But what about tears of joy or the effect of sheer excitement?

Firstly - personally i use headphones (early morning not to wake people up) and it kills off any other sounds which

is a huge bonus. That's great for atmosphere. I don't have a huge entertainment set up, just a normal LG decent size TV

that's lasted me for years and years, waiting for it to die (bless it) so i can spend the money on a high end Plasma.

Headphones negate the need for a Big speaker system imo.

Anyways, i almost cry at pinacle moments, not because i'm sad, or sappy (lol), but because i'm so drawn in, it's

an uncontrollable reaction to seeing Valk action mixed in with character development and drama.

I especially get this from Watching Macross Zero.

Best example is when Shin's F-14 squad is getting smashed from Nora's SV-51y. I get chilling shakes of excitment

from that, and my eyes water, what is this? I NEVER cry or get too emotional (angry, shrugging off type), i even didn't

cry at my own dad's deathbed or funeral, i know it's not weird, it's common i hope atleast haha. But MACROSS...

I cry almost, i get very emotional just coz it's so awesome. This is hysteria? Like those crazy chicks at concerts that

cry pathetically? hahha no no not like that but tears anyways. lol Anyone else get this with Macross??

I think it's just the combination of excellence that is Macross. I think it happens with other movies but not like Macross.

Also i think for the best hysteria fix is straight after youu wake up from sleep. I really like this feeling, it's like i'm

waiting for the next hit, it's addictive~! (no i don't take drugs, but i haven't drank too much yet, maybe that will bring it?)

I'm ashamed to admit that I only recently entered the macross universe ... How recently you ask? Macross Frontier recently. Before frontier I had never seen or heared anything about macross, but that all changed.....

When I watched the deculture version of episode 1 (It was up on random curiosity and I felt like checking it out since Omni went crazy about it), I was shocked! I had never before seen such a beautifull anime, packed with amazing technology, awsome music, and characters that I liked from day one. It all mixxed so well .... I couldn't explain it anymore. It was the coolest anime I had ever laid eyes on.

Then after months of waiting the show finally began. I kept waiting 6 days a week for that awsomme experience, and guess what? It deliverd! Soon I ended up on this forum (beeing a guy who wants to know about the story no matter in what way I went searching for spoilers) and read about the older series. Took me a while to download them all and I started of with watching Macross Zero.

WOW, holly crap that was amazing. Hadn't had such an experience since .... well since frontier! I quickly "marathoned" SDF:M (inc DYRL and Flashback) and M7, and decided that should just as easly watch plus without a break. (6 days of nonstop awsomeness, omg I must seem like a geek :$). I watched the ova's and the movies, I watched dynamite (I don't care what some say, dynamite was awsome). Heck I watched Macross II.

Afterwards I was stunned, somehow most anime's aren't as cool as they used to be after watching these series. I did cry from joy once in a while when something really really cool/awsomme happened, but most of the time i was to stunned for that.

Well... Whenever I watch Macross... I feel kinda nostalgic... and I am also overcome with awe for all that mecha... I never get bored of it!!!

There's one scene in Macross II, it's the part where Ishtar starts to sing the song of the Alus ("Anata o kanjite-iru - Mia Santi Ren" off of Macross II OST Vol. 2...track 17).... Well, everytime I see that scene I get goosebumps. Hiroko Kasahara's a cappella is just beautiful...and with the images of Hibiki breaking down in front of the camera...the Macross discharging the energy...the shots of Silvie and Exxegran and then of Ingues, after the Macross discharges. It gives me the feeling that the Macross is humanities' last hope and Ingues knows it...it's chilling.

Despite the Macross being blown apart...I love how Macross II ends. The message is powerful if you ask me.... Love conquers all...it's what will win the war and bring peace, not some (awesome) ultimate destructive weapon. Anyway...there are a lot of other scenes, from other Macross series, where I get the chills and goosebumps...but that one scene sticks out the most for me.

I'm glad to see that Frontier is bringing in more fans! Macross truly is an epic anime. After I rediscovered Robotech I went looking online for more information. I soon found Alt.Fan.Macross online and Macross II at a local BlockBuster. I "saw the light" and I've been more in love ever since.

Well, I get pure and unadultered excitement out of it... I constantly refresh the browser to see if the HorribleRaw is out, sometimes delay at morning going to work to watch the Chihiro/Kei first sub... and I still re-watch big parts of all episodes. Deculture! And also, Sheryl is awesome! Did I miss something to say? Oh, yeah... the mecha fights. Woah, man. I hope this series goes on forever.

I get very emotional too with macross. It brings me back to when I was 9 years old and running home to catch the next episode of Robotech. But not only that it also congures up a gigantic load of emotions that I have collected in this life from my first heartbreak to my son's birth and the mecha oh the mecha. Macross embodies and epitomises my love for technology and sci-fi and toy collecting at that. I could go on but I have to run. Oh, last thing is that I almost cried when I watched SDFM the last time.

Yeah! I know that scene, it really does give you goosebumps! The music in Mac II really hits ya in that vulnerable spot. It rules!

Speaking of scenes, i get the gooses when Minmay is signing the battle song in DYRL?, especially when Hikaru salutes the bridge and goes off on his assassination run. That's where the music gets ya.

Another is when in Mac II, just before the credits Ishtar sings that song as she is saying goodbye to Hibiki and Sylvia an gets on her transport craft. That's my fav song in Mac II.

First time i experienced this Macross vibe is when in the english dub (RT) when Minmay is singing her battle song "We Will Win". That is pure emotional brilliance. That whole episode in dub was grand.

Mac Plus, well the movie has most of the vibes, especially when Guld takes out the Ghost fighter, that's a teary one, and Sharon's WannaBeAnAngel song scene feels great! As does "The Borderline" spooky...

Another one for Zero, when Nora gets burned, DD gets REALLY pissed, and goes all out with his SV-51, the music is really good at this period, and when Shin is seeing Sara he is totally freaking out!

That really gets me there, awesome stuff.

And And when SHin is falling in his damaged VF-0...

Ranka's singing of Aimo to Alto in the park made me giddy. The epic struggles in episode 7, 13 and 14 are giving me that hair raising feeling and shivers along my back. When I really get into a show (like "The Wire"), I'm like that. With Macross I also get the ancillary benefit of being an old fan and the nostalgia heightens the experience somewhat

I have had all these feelings in all things Macross except for 7 and II...

Anyways, my passion was reawakened in December when I saw a raw named Macross Frontier on Tokyotosho so I grabbed and watched it. Well I can tell you that I hadn't felt such a vibe since the first season of the new Battlestar Galactica. Shakes came and went throughout my countless rewatchings. Tears came when I found out I would have to watch *4* months to see the next episode.

Well, now that the series is seemingly half over, I can say that I still get the same emotions except I now fall into a depression after watching each episode and reaches its nadir around Tuesday Pacific Standard Time. There is also the great depression of knowing the Frontier will end relatively soon.

Since we are now past the halfway point that is really starting to bother me now too.

Its all part of evolution I guess. I remember the big thrill with M+ when I got to see it a few months after it was released in Japan. With M0 the fun was seeing it a few days after the Japanese release. Now, I am watching new episodes of MF a few hours after broadcast in Japan.

To me, there is nothing at the moment to compete with this show. When it ends, all there will be to hang out for will be the end of BSG (which has become a bit of a yawn so far this season). Even this years Dr Who wasn't as good as previous seasons, I thought.

I guess the brightest hope will be another Macross series in the future ( not the far far future, please), but we will have to wait and see.

Oh wow ... I'm honestly glad I'm not the only one.

Macross was huge to me as a kid ... as soon as Star Wars tied itself up, I discovered Robotech (around age 10 or so) and just went ape. It's very easy to get caught up in the escapism and nostalgia, coupled with animation Kawamori could only dream at when making the original. Rediscovering it through M+ years later brought all that back, and it's just one of those silly things that never gets old. I enjoy other anime, but Macross is something very special and unique for me, which makes it very personal. Frontier is to me what all the Star Wars nerds were hoping the prequels would turn out to be ... fortunately no Jar Jar as yet.

Anyway, it's not just you. I've jumped out of my chair and yelled "Ye-aww! Take that, emo douche!" when Alto rushed out of that explosion to take out Brera's 27's leg. I even teared up a little this past episode when Ranka's mom starting singing Aimo ... (yeah, yeah, make all the fun you want).

Ah yes, I remember well the Mac Plus days...and the scrounging around the monthly Shrine Auditorium porn comic convention to find Macross 7 fansubs, and renting it the raw VHS tapes from one of the Little Tokyo video stores...and getting bootleg Zero DVDs...

But nothing beats getting the Animeigo boxset after waiting FIFTEEN FRICKIN' YEARS for the whole series to be subbed.

Really, the only thing that would beat that natural high would be holding an R1 DYRL DVD in my sweaty hands...

Oh, last thing is that I almost cried when I watched SDFM the last time.

I recently watched SDF Macross in it's entirety for the first time (Used to watch robotech sporadically as a kid). And I must say the part that nearly brought a tear to my eye is the last episode where the Macross is lifting off for the first time since the war and then the theme song starts to play. OMG it was just so EPIC!!
