Hot Coffee anyone

MGREXX

Recommended Posts

By now everybody knows about the infamous "Hot Coffee" mod that allows sex mini games in the PC version of GTA: San Andreas. The question now is, who is lying and who is telling the truth? Did Rockstar programmers secretly put that source code in or did hackers re-build the source code (and create a mod) to look like it was already there? We will soon know....but boy is the band wagon jumping all over this one....even Hillary "shewoman" Clinton is getting involved!!!!!!!!:lol::lol:

...

My bet on the truth...

There is nothing "secret" about it.

Rockstar was fooling around, created a bunch of "racy" minigames.

Someone said "Dudes... we're NEVER gonna get an M rating with all this stuff, and a lot of stores aren't gonna carry an AO game..."

The triggers to enter the segments were removed, because it was easier than stripping the entire games out.

This actually has some serious ramifications for the industry. If the ESRB and government censorship boards start rating games based on "leftover" content that has been disabled but is still on the disk, developers will start being obligated to remove anything they decide not to use, which can be quite extensive changes in some cases(some "dummied-out" features have hooks extending into virtually every part of the game).

I was hoping it would not return... <_<

True.

But on the upside, this thread is something besides the spewing of inane fanboy crap and bragging about degrees to anyone that argues.

Ah, cut the guy some slack. Yeah, we've all had our beefs with him before. And yes, this news is old, but it first turned up while the boards were down. But as JB0 pointed out, for a change, he made a relatively non-irritating post. He's obviously not going anywhere anytime soon, and if he's going to post here, this is the kind of post I'd rather see him make.

Mike and JB have a point I guess... very well.. henceforth if MG is found to speak with something other than a RT-fanboy accent I'll continue to be civil (maybe I DID jump the gun on this one... but the RT trailer thread was certainly warrented!)

either way, I don't see the govt. doing a thing to Rockstar for the time being. The game has just been in circulation for too long now so yanking it from the shelves NOW would be a really pointless move. As far as changing the rating is concerned, well... I grew up without the vices of such a system in place (people didn't know how to blame their ignorance on videogames yet... ahh those were the days) so I don't know how seriously parents take that on the whole. Basically, I'll say this discovery was too late in coming to really make an impact... or should I say a BIGGER impact.

 I wish you could all see the look of pained horror on my face right now.

And yes this just means more sales for Rock Star. I mean is it possible that they might have left in the unused portions for just such a purpose. The game's sales would go down a bit after a few months since many people have already bought the game. So by leaving this in for someone to conveniently find and take advantage of they create controversy leading to more sales possibly to some people who would not have bought the game otherwise. This could also create an interest in future products by people who want to see if these products contain a similar feature.

Though this theory is probably far fetched and has more to do with my healthy interest in conspiracy theories and booze than any actual facts.

...And that's how the reverse vampires are going to eliminate the meal of dinner! :o

Indeed it is.

Leaving unused portions in is a common practice, dating back to the early days of gaming, when it was easier to leave it in than it was to change all the addresses in the code(assembly is a pain in the butt).

And now Mrs. Clinton is pushing for legislation that makes selling M or AO-rated games to minors a federal offense.

Frankly, I don't have a problem with that. I've had to talk plenty of moms out of buying games like GTA or Manhunt for their 10 and 12 year olds. Legislation doesn't solve the real problem though... parents who buy the games for their 10 and 12 year olds anyway.

Also, I think that the ESRB needs to add another rating. Have you guys seen the E10+ rating yet? Frankly, I think its a waste of a rating designed to get parents who refuse to buy their kids T-rated games to buy previously T-rated games like Jak or Ratchet and Clank. What they should have done instead was to create a rating between T and M, to seperate games like Manhunt or GTA from games like Halo, which aren't nearly as bad.

ahh, another reason why we kicked Hillary out of Arkansas... her inability to see to the heart of a matter.

More videogame legislation will NEVER balance bad parenting. In fact, all they're doing is making it easier.

I say if you're gonna legislate one entertainment medium, do 'em all.

TV, movies, DVDs, et cetera.

Then we can be like Australia or Great Britain, where the government censors (and in some cases bans) our entertainment before we ever get to see it.

yah pretty much sex scenes in movies seem overly done (like theres one in every movie now) and nobody is complaining. In gta:sa Im surprised nobody is talking about the sex shops and the one GF you have to get kinky with to get the key card.

What a funny movie! At least Rockstar is trying to break the censorship like we did for TV in the 60's :)

UPDATE#2:

It is now pretty much a fact that Rockstar.......(drumroll please)......is guilty of this whole ordeal.

Link #1

Does it surprise anybody? I dodn't think so.

It's even thought that they leaked the rumor in the FIRST PLACE to generate some free publicity for the PC version of GTA!!! Like GTA needed anymore publicity. (go figure).

Link #2 (rumor 2)

Now, will they fry or get away with it and have their stunt work.

Only time will tell. :D:D

Taht's only newsworthy to the people raising a fuss.

That's just people being stupid.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

As a game that thrives on shock appeal, this is only good for them.

Ok, so if a kid is capable of applying the mod to his game, the chances are that he is also mentally cualified to search the internet for all the real porn he wants and of downloading all of the most twisted porn he wants with a P2P program.

I don´t see the fuzz. It´s rated M (17+), right? If you can play such a violent game without a problem then you can stand some cartoon porn.

Other things happening in the world that deserve more attention.

What I find really really funny is how there's practically no controversy to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. There's liberal doses of swearing, over the top sexuality and (although not shown), sex scenes (oh, and of course, the usual offenders: violence, blood, and offenses to religion). Heck, Killer7 isn't even raising any eyebrows either.

That's all. There's other stuff out there that can catch loads of crap, but they're not even being noticed...

I think that's exactly the point. There are certain parties on both sides of the political fence who want to demonize the ESRB for not giving GTA an AO rating, but

A.) The ESRB rates a game based on the most extreme content in the game. Is it fair to consider content that was cut from the game, but who's coding was left in, and with some modification, could be re-activated?

and

B.) The game is rated M. An M-rating is supposed to tell parents, "if your child is under the age of 17, this game isn't appropriate for them." If you were one of those parents stupid/lazy/irresponsible enough to buy M-rated software for your children, you can't throw a fuss and say, "OMG, there's material in here that's innappropriate for my 10 year old! This game should have an Adult's Only rating!"

If the ESRB is guilty of anything, it's as I already said... they're wasting time creating an E10+ rating so that games like Jak can avoid a T-rating and still be marketed to kids, when they should have come up with something to seperate graphic games like GTA, God of War, Condemned, etc, from games that are simply violent like Halo or Splinter Cell. (In fact, I find it ironic that Halo gets an M-rating, but the recent Alien vs Predator movie was only rated PG-13...)

Upon consideration, I retract my statement about the rumor of Rockstar leaking the uncensor code being just stupid.

The fact that it was a 1-bit flag toggle makes it look like it was intended to be re-enabled.

Hell, they had to ADD code to process the flag instead of just killing the "mini-game" access

At best, they were considering releasing an AO-rated edition.

More likely they were hoping someone would find and enable it.

Looks like San Andreas will be getting an AO rating at least until newer versions of the game are pressed without the code.

312935[/snapback]

Great, the world is now safer  .

BTW, saw a video of said mod and what you see is no worse than what you can see on an R rated film (and some PG-13) only with crude polygons. T&A´s and some postures, nothing more. The male character is always with his clothes on. Light years away from an NC-17 rating IMO

Such fuzz over something that is meant for mentalities AT LEAST 17 years old is really retarded (IMO anyways).
