Yup the animation is seccond to none (in the macross world). The first time you see the VF-0S transform.... well... all i'll say is that I was stood in a puddle afterwards. sqidd
Alrighty there Mr vermillion01, I read one of your past posts and you mentioned owning/running some sort of design company and that you enjoyed your "models" because of the design aspects, etc. I feel the same way and I think we enjoy them for the same reasons. So here is the question. What looks better? The VF-0S ghost in gerwalk or fighter mode? I think they are both beyond outstanding! But I will only be buying one and I can't decide how I want to display it. I am leaning toward gerwalk a little bit.....and I am not a huge gerwalk fan, which means I realy, realy like it. Ohhhh I'm so cofused!

I'm a bit 'on the fence' there my self... as a lover of aircraft in general, a lot of my stuff is displayed in fighter mode, but I agree that the VF-0's are stunning in gerwalk mode (personally, I think they have the best gerwalk of all valks). The solution? Get one of each! I have a VF-0S with the ghost booster displayed in gerwalk mode and a VF-0A (standard... love the missles that come with the standard version) in fighter mode as the low-vis markings make it look more like a contempary fighter. Nice. In an ideal world I would have 3 or so of each version for displaying in all modes... hmmm... need to break out the card again.

I would love to justify three of each, but that is just not going to happen. I have a irresponsibly expensive (and fast) Mustang to sink money in too also. I have been trying to pick and choose the ones I think are sexy and also trying to represent each “family”. I currently have a VF-0S in fighter mode and it’s OUTSTADING! I also have a VF-0A in Batroid, but I am going to let that one go (it’s in the for sale section) to replace it with the VF-0S “Ghost” to be displayed most likely in Gerwalk. I am not blown away with the VF-0 in Batroid mode and I have VF-1’s, VF-11’s, VF-19’s and VF-21’s in Batroid so the Batroids are very well represented. I think with the addition of the VF-0S “Ghost” and a VF-1J with “Armor” I will have it covered fairly well. Or at least that is what I keep telling myself
Mr March
In the "Mecha Manual" (thanks again Mr March) I only see the VF-0A listed with the ghost booster, the "Angle" I believe is the designation. **PLUS...** So would it be safe to assume that most Macross fans see themselves as part of, or in the SDFM Universe and that DYRL is something along the lines of the Clint Eastwood film "Flags of Our Fathers"? You're welcome There is only line art available to me for the VF-0A "Raid/Angel" so far, so sadly the VF-0S doesn't appear. However, if you read the body text carefully, you'll note it specifically says that a VF-0S Angel appeared in the final battle of the Island of Mayan (which is Macross Zero Episode 5). I've never seen Flags of Our Fathers, but as I said recently in another thread, I personally wouldn't try to ponder on deep meanings or look for coherence in the Macross continuity. The debates about what is real Macross and what is DYRL Macross have lead to legendary discussions on this website which always ultimately conclude there is no rhyme nor reason to the ultimate "correct" continuity. Basically, if the mecha/character designs are more interesting/reimagined, Kawamori and Co. have adopted them as part of the main Macross universe. We, as the audience, are just meant to imagine these mecha/character designs were part of Macross all along. This is why the SDF Macross (Film Version) appears in Macross Plus, why Exedol appears green in Macross 7, why the Chlore Fleet is using Meltrandi ships in Macross 7 Encore, et cetera. You just go with it, even if the whole Zentradi/Meltrandi thing contradicts the entire SDFM series. Just assume it fits in somehow and leave it at that, because it's clear that's all the thought that Kawamori and Co. have put into it.
Valkyrie addict
didn't anyone think it was incredibly stupid in Macross 7, the episode were they are making tribute to Minmay and Hikaru with a sorta movie of their own of DYRL, and they dress up Basara like Hikaru and Mylene like Minmay, but they just put some old FAST packs on Basara ugly VF-19 kai??? I mean, it's 2040whatever... and they can't built a prop VF-1 for a movie????? I was really bothered by this

Kelsain
Didn't the Varuta show up in the middle of that? Basara couldn't have rocked their world in a VF-1. We saw that quite clearly the first time he encountered the space whale in Dynamite. Basara + VF1 = Fail PS: I agree, it looked ridiculous Edited September 14, 2007 by Kelsain
Valkyrie addict
hahaha...yes Basara + VF-1 = Fail, indeed, and after getting blown up and thrown out to the void of space without any kind of spacesuit or flightsuit, the elf chick piloting the vf-5000 just happens to have red lifesaving putty loaded into her gunpod and shoots basara to safety...I'm still wondering how he didn't suffocate to death...a few seconds thrown out suddenly in space should brust your lungs out...and I doubt that red putty had some oxigen supply...hahahahhaha

Or, you could have read the Compendium: http://macross.anime.net//mecha/united_nat.../vf0/index.html Therefore, the carrier Asuka's maintenance crew members hurriedly put together the available parts aboard for the VF-0 "Raid," a specification called the "Angel" version afterwards, probably due to the final form. One each of the S type and A type were modified to this specification.

It's the same reason Basara and Mylene are playing Hikaru and Minmay, even though they look NOTHING like the characters in question. While officially presented as a Minmay tribute, it was clearly meant as an advertising vehicle for Fire Bomber.

RDClip
So i just watched DYRL for like the hundredth time and i was always wondered about a few things: 1) did Hikaru and Misa have sex after they had their make-believe dinner? Cause when Misa comes out of the house to see Hikaru waiting for the Macross, she is zipping up her jumpsuit. 2) When that meltran q-rau pilot gets shot down in britai's ship, is that light that comes out of her chest plate like a suicide device or something? 3) Prior to the final battle, were the meltrandi allied with the humans? Seems to me, it would make little sense that they would accept Max, macronize him, and give him a q-rau otherwise.
Roy Focker
1)Well they kiss in one scene and the next morning she is zipping up her suit. It does seem to suggest that happen didn't it. 2) That has been one theory. I think it's likely some sort of beacon. 3)Only Milia's ship was allied at the star. In the story boards Max and Milia contacts the Macross at the start of the battle. Why wouldn't they accept Max? He heard he can do amazing things with that Robotech 3000 in his pants. ce25254
(I just moved this from a reply on the Flashback 2012 review thread. I hope this is a better place for the questions below.) Hi, this is my first (second) post. I'm an old Macross fan and recently stumbled onto this forum after pulling out some old model kits. :-) Since there was a review of Flashback 2012, I thought I'd post a couple of my questions that popped up. I'm a little bit confused about part of the content in the last segment of this video. I just watched it again for the first time in something like 10 years (also watched DYRL, and am almost finished with the series). I wonder what others think about this. There are the following scenes in order (I left out the non-Minmay scenes): - Older Minmay (black hat) on an empty stage remembering... - Young-ish Minmay giving final concert after the war - (Young pre-series) Minmay leaving home - * Young-ish Minmay putting on makeup (for what? what costume is that? I thought it was the DYRL costume, but it is not) - (Young pre-series) looking at the Macross billboard - (white hat) looking at Megaroad billboard - (white hat) leaving aboard Megaroad - * (long hair, plain clothes) watching Megaroad depart - * (long hair, plain clothes) on a delapidated stage and shivering in the rain - (white hat) looking down from Megaroad - remembering end of DYRL - (long hair) in front of photographers' flashes, with flowers - * (long hair) in front of photographers' flashes, looking pretty bad - Older Minmay (black hat) taking a bow on an empty stage So I have put stars by the parts that confuse me. I understand that Minmay left on the Megaroad. So what is the black-hat-Minmay flashing back to? She seems old, based on the way her legs look as she walks up the steps onto the stage. And *especially* what is up with the long-haired Minmay who seems to be in trouble and not leaving on the Megaroad? It seems to be a strange potentially non-literal set of scenes to me, and I wonder what others think about it. I searched around, but wasn't able to find any comments about this specifically. Here's a link to the end segment, although it doesn't show Minmay walking up onto the stage: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5ENTrzlWKQU
azrael
...*too long to quote* So I have put stars by the parts that confuse me. I understand that Minmay left on the Megaroad. This sequence alludes to her saying good-bye to her old life and a look back at each defining moment of her life. If you notice that some of the flashbacks were of her leaving her parents. Much of the sequence seeing Minmay's life through her POV, i.e. we see things through Minmay's eyes. What we see is that Minmay has always had to leave a bit of herself behind to move forward. She grows up a little bit each time. It's how she moves forward. The sequence is more figurative than literal.

JB0
That was never answered. Most likely, it was not since Macross never left the solar system again. I'm a mecha fan as well as an anime fan so I'm pretty sure I'll like it, but I don't know which anime series to start from. Any suggestions guys? Begin at the beginning. Watch the original SDF Macross TV series(NOT Robotech). From there, I'd recommend Do You Remember Love and Macross Plus. DYRL assumes TV series knowledge, so while it's REALLY pretty, it's not a great starting point. DYRL isn't available in the US, though. But there always be a solution to that, ARRR. ... Actually, where you start probably depends on what KIND of anime fan you are. SDF Macross is low-budget 80s animation. It is, shall we say, not very pretty most of the time. If you value flash over substance, jump straight to DYRL and Plus. But if you're looking for content, character development, and a story, start with the TV series. Mr March
As azrael has posted, there are TWO size comparison charts in This Is Animation Series Macross 7 Animation Materials. Graham generously made some scans of the pictures for me. It shows the VF-11C Thunderbolt, VF-17D Nightmare, VF-19 Excalibur Custom and Fz-109F Elgerzorene compared to each other in Fighter mode on one page and Battroid mode on a second page. I'm at work right now, but I'll post smaller versions just to give you an idea later today. Also, there is a much more accomplished size comparison of Fighter mode side profile schematics found within the pages of This Is Animation Special Macross Plus. It features side profile schematics of the VF-1A Valkyrie, VF-4 Lightning III, VF-5000 Star Mirage, VF-11B Thunderbolt, VF-17D Nightmare, YF-19 Alpha One and YF-21 Omega One all to scale with one another. I'm not sure if I've gotten around to scanning it yet, but I'll see what I can do later this afternoon.
