    Yamato 1/48 VF-0S

This debate has come up so often, been discussed so much, that I believe everyone is well aware as to how large a 1/48th VF-0 would be. Despite this, there are many that would still love one, or ten. Of course, given the other problems with the license right now (as discussed in this thread already), it's understandable that any non-VF-1 1/48 would be far from likely.
  2. Actually, she did appear once again. She was one of the marines that took Mao back to the carrier when Shin took off with the Birdman's head, and the the U.N. abandoned the island under the Anti-U.N. assault.
  3. Mitsuwa mall in Chicago has a toy store that's been selling Bandai, Yamato, and even Banpresto Valkyries at far higher prices than you could get them online. I've also seen dealers at anime conventions trying to sell everything from Macross Plus to the 1/48 scale Yamatos at several times the going price.I don't think I've seen anyone actually buy them, though Not at those crazy prices. Still, I hope I can get a few more 1/60's and a couple more 1/48's before their prices skyrocket even from the online stores. I had to scour the net to find an Elintseeker, and I haven't seen any Max VF-1J 1/48ths anywhere.
  4. We'll see about that. The Cube isn't the leaps and bounds better in performance over the PS2 that the Xbox is. And if Viewtiful Joe is any indication, the PS2 version will have slick exclusives that will make up for the undoubtedly longer load times. I gotta disagree. Basically, the PS2 can push more polygons than the Cube, but the Cube can work all sorts of graphical effects on those polygons that are simply impossible on the PS2. Heck, I've seen some games on the Cube that are prettier than anything I've seen on the XBox (The RE games, again, come to mind). My final word on the matter would be to simply point at the games available, however I realize if it gets to that point the argument is futile. I still recall people telling me that the Genesis had better graphics than the SNES. Just so we're clear, I'm not saying the Cube is the best system (though I believe it would be if only it had support), but that it makes a strong secondary systen for someone that already owns either an Xbox or a PS2. Or I would reccomend it to someone that wants a console, but who doesn't buy a lot of games. Man, I agree with a lot of your posts on the forum, but how long have you been a gamer? The console arena always changes depending on what the big companies do at the release of the new systems. Since Nintendo plans to release their system last, we can expect this much to stay the same, Sony will have lots of third party support, and Nintendo won't, but will have better graphics. However, if Microsoft releases the XBox2 around the same time as the PS3 (or perhaps even before it), they could very well draw a lot of Sony's support. Plus Microsoft has the main creative forces behind Final Fantasy signed on to their system. FF is what gained Sony most of their support way back when the Playstation was the new kid on the block. Plus, having Windwalker could really help Microsoft out in Japan as well. If it does not help them there this generation, then so long as they don't botch things, it could still help them with the next generation of consoles after XBox2 and PS3. While I won't deny there's a minorty of PC gamers that do this, I spend a couple hundred bucks to upgrade my computer about once every 2-3 years. Many PC gamers seem to upgrade even less than that. PCs are becoming cheaper and cheaper all the time.
  5. I think the Cube is either the best buy for a gamer that likes top quality games, but doesn't buy a whole lot of games in general, unless that person is big on RPGs in wich case the PS2 is the way to go. For everyone else, the Cube is a solid second system and it's great for parties. Metroid, Pikmin, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox Assault, Resident Evil 4 (wich more than likely won't look nearly as nice on the PS2, wich makes it even sadder that from now on RE games will be made with th PS2's limitations in mind, at least until the next generation). A lot of the XBox's best looking "exclusive" titles are also out on the PC, in wich case why buy the XBox version when you can get the PC version and have access to all of the patches and mods said games will eventually be showered with there? Personally, there's very little out, or coming out, for the XBox that appeals to me, other than games available either on the PC or the other consoles. PS2 has the largest library, of course, and a near monopoly on RPGs, but most of it's library is pretty forgettable. It really is Sony's stranglehold on RPG developers that makes the PS2 the system to get, over the technically superior Xbox and Gamecube (goes to show you graphics aren't everything if you don't have a lot of support). Of course, with the coming console generation, the rules change yet again.

    Yamato 1/48 VF-0S

I agree with hellohikaru, I owned larger toys than the 1/48 VF-1 when I was only a few feet tall myself. Fortress Maximus comes to mind. Toys much larger than the 1/48 are still sold in stores. Every so often I'll be in Walmart, Target, or Toys 'R Us and see some huge WWII fighter planes. I'm very happy with my Konig monster, and I'd eagerly nab the 1/60 original Monster if Yamato ever decides to release it.
  7. Unfortunately, VO really kinda sucks. I'm also a much bigger fan of simulation style games than arcade shooters like VF-X, but there's just no good Macross simulation game or even a mod for another flight sim game (I hear there's several in the works, but it's been years and I've seen nothing come of them).

Such as the VF-4 Lightning III.
  9. Minish Cap is a decent game, but it's not the best Zelda out there. It's certainly the prettiest 2D Zelda, and well worth gettting, though. It's just that it's too easy, too short, and it doesn't have the feel of all the previous Zelda's of being one huge world you can wander around and explore. Instead they block you off from different sections of the map until it's time to go to that section, and then later they block you from going to a couple of places you could visit before. LKind of annoying. As for 2D versus 3D, well that's simply a matter of opinion when it comes to graphics, because the thing about the 3D Zelda games is that they play a lot like the 2D games (wich can be disconcerting at first).
  10. An American company funded Bloodlust. My understanding is that it was written, scripted, produced, and animated in Japan, but since Urban Vision funded it, the voice acting was first done by an english speaking voice cast so it could be released sooner to the U.S. market. This wouldn't be so bad, had the voice acting been at least the quality of decent non-anime voice acting. Unfortunately, it was par for the course of anime dubbing and no dual audio w/ subtitles DVD has yet been released.
  11. Meh. Trek doesn't need to be put to sleep for a while, it needs someone at the helm that actually cares about the franchise and wants to tell some good stories. Burman has openly admitted that he hates the franchise and it's just another paycheque to him. Of course, given how much crap that's been piled onto the Trek name, maybe letting the franchise die for a while before its glorious comeback would help us forget how bad it is now. Fat chance of either, though. While hardcore trekkies continue to shell out support to these new shows and movies just because they have 'Star Trek' somewhere in the title, Paramount will be making at least the minimum to keep Trek on life support and not feel the need to make any changes.
  12. Huh, I've never had much of a problem getting my YF-21 to stand in battroid, and I've had it for ages now. I think I'm one of the few people that has also not suffered any major QC problems (and only one minor) with any of my Yamatos. Oh man, I hope I'm not jinxing my luck, I've got an Elintseeker on it's way right now.
  13. Gao Gai Gar Final is an OVA, several episodes. 8 episodes. However, any Lupin movie stands well on its own. The first two Patlabor movies also rock, and though they're based on a series, you don't need to see the series to enjoy the movies (I've still never seen the series, though I'd like to someday). The third movie, wich is even further detached from the tv series, is also excellent, but not quite as good. Arcadia of My Youth is related to the series and manga Captain Herlock (also known as Harlock), but is in itself a stand alone product (it doesn't even have any continuity between itself and any other Herlock show). Tamala 2010 is a very strange movie. Very slow movie. Almost no plot until about midway through when it's all thrown at you at once. It's very quirky. Most of the people I know either love it completely, or hate it. The Cowboy Bebop movie requires no knowledge of the tv series, and does not really spoil anything. Interstella 5555 is kind of a movie length music video set to Daft Punk music. Leiji Matsumoto handled the animation. Same guy that did Herlock, Galaxy Express 999, and Space Battleship Yamato. Grave of the Fireflies is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and also one of the most depressing. Have tissues on hand. Either Vampire Hunter D movie is good and you don't need to see the first one to enjoy the second. I think the second movie is much better than the first, however it's only available dubbed if that matters at all to you. A shame, because while the voice acting isn't really terrible as far as anime dubs go, it's still not great.
  14. The premier of this movie cannot get here fast enough for me.
  15. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not a fan of those boxes. When you see them in person they look cheaply made. Even besides that, they're gaudy and amateurish looking. I see them andI think they look like they belong in a cereal aisle at the grocery store. Look kids, Robotechyo's! Now with protoculture marshmellows!
  16. Nevermind, someone posted a link in the other thread. I'll either nab it from HLJ or wait and see if Valkyrie Exchange stocks it.
  17. Same here, I'd like to nab a copy as soon as possible!
  18. When I watch anime at home, it's usually on my computer, with a 19" Sony Trinitron CRT (wich has a better refresh than my Samsung LCD), but I actually watch most of the anime I see at a weekly anime night gathering with some friends, one of whom has a projector hooked up to their computer so we can watch anime on a large screen. Definitely the best way to watch anime at home, though still not quite as cool as seeing it on a theatre sized screen (Like when I saw DYRL? at Otakon a few years back).
  19. Unfortunately, in the interest of this topic, all of my Sentinels stuff is back at my parents' place, halfway across the country. Some of the artwork manages to make the characters look different, some of it doesn't succeed in that at all.
  20. Not if they're big Macross fans. I'm sorry, but if I draw a picture of the cast of Evangelion, but draw them in different costumes, using some of the same mecha from the series, and some new mecha I made myself, Evangelion fans will still recognize the characters. Even if I give them different names, Eva fans will still ask why I drew Shinjii in scuba gear, and Rei wearing business suit while piloting ridiculous fan mecha. If I try to tell them it's not Eva, that it's something I made up, they'll accuse me of plagarism (and rightly so!).
  21. Ah, the well over-used Photoshop sunburst effect... It's only the overused Photoshop lens flare if Photoshop was involved. I was under the impression that all these posters were painted by hand. A lens flare by itself or achieved in ways other than a pasted in computer filter should not really be compared to the problem of overused computer lens flare filters. Remember why those filters are so despised, because it's basically a piece of clip art not created by the artist and simply pasted over an image without any skill or talent neccessary. And since they're so easy, they become abused by amaturish Photoshop artists.
  22. Yeah, I doubt it would be all that difficult to take what the NGage does...but not crappy. Especially backed by Sony. It's just a matter of...will they? All signs point to no, unfortunately.
  23. I really reccomend going through that whole thread to get the information you need. I know it seems daunting, but it's a daunting situation. Anyways, here's some links that may help, if even a little. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature.php?id=117 This is an update and a retraction of their initial, poorly researched article on the topic. Take it with a grain of salt. http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=164 The above is a thread I created on another forum that basically rounds up the most pertinent information from the thread Agent ONE pointed you at. However, I'm only human and I may have missed things, and I most definitely clouded the information with my own personal bias. Check anything you get from that against other sources. http://www.cric.or.jp/cric_e/clj/cl2_1.html Some Japanese copyright information that may or may not come in handy. http://protoculture.lebhead.com/ Lebhead's site because...well...anyone looking into Macross and Robotech should at least get the basics on the two. If anything, you can point others there. When it's back up, that is. It seems to be down at the time of this post. I'm certain there was something else I was going to say, or some other link. Oh, right, Big West's official statement: http://www.macross.co.jp/macross/contents/index.html There ya go.
  24. I'll assume you were typing that post as I was replying.
  25. Hmm, my mistake. Well, that will teach me to reply to forums while trying not to fall asleep waiting for a package. Still, in my search I came across no polls that support the statement of Duke Togo's I was replying to. Of course, that search was conducted in the same half asleep state, so feel free to correct my oversight.
