  1. The detachable legs wouldn't bother me quite so much had Yamato not designed the hips with those huge bulges housing the joint. They're every bit as much an eyesore as swing bars, but without the bonus of perfect transformation.
  2. Sure, in fighter mode. But the YF-21 battroid kicks it's butt with 12 diffrent vitamins and minerals. Well, basically it's a variable Q-Rau, what's not to love?
  3. Unfortunately, I don't know of any DVD sets with anything near decent subtitles. I saw a DVD set ages ago, but the subs were just plain nonsensical. I'd reccomend trying to download the fansubs. The series only gets better.
  4. Two PSP threads at once, fun! As for me, the PSP launch lineup does nothing for me. On the other hand, the DS lineup only has like 2 games that I want. I think I'll wait until one of the two systems developes a decent gaming library, or see what the new Gameboy has to offer when it's launched later this year.

    1/100 Vf-0D question

That's terrible. Even though I had no interest in the 1/100 scale VF-0, I'd love a larger scale collecters grade version. Be it 1/55, 1/60, or 1/48.
  6. Man, where to begin? The Baroque period I suppose. Bach is probably one of my favourite composers. Queen is hands down my favourite band. Some other favourites: Blue Oyster Cult The Pillows KMFDM Daft Punk Humming Bird Mari Ijima Other music I'm big into: KISS Journey Michael Schenker Group John Sykes Johnny Cash The Cure The Legendary Pink Dots The Trees of Life L'Arc~en~Ciel Foetus NIN (especially Pretty Hate Machine and Broken) White Zombie Powerman 5000 They Might Be Giants David Bowie Peter Gabriel Genesis Dire Straights I could go on and on, these are just the bands that came to mind immeadiately. Of course I'm also into a lot of anime, movie, and videogame soundtracks, in fact those make up the bulk of my collection.

    Custom VF-17S

While I agree with you wholeheartedly that Bandai didn't do nearly as well as they could have, the 17's actually aren't too bad. And Graham's posted picture shows that one of these can be turned into something pretty damn nice. I need to grab another 17 sometime, then dig up the thread that custom is originally from to see about doing something like that myself one of these days.
  8. These wacky kids today, won't they ever learn?
  9. Is it true that you don't even have the option of using a flight stick with Jump to Lightspeed? Despite my dislike of Galaxies, I must admit the add on, wich looked from the screenshots to be a helluva lot like the old X-Wing games, sorely tempted me until I heard this news.
  10. As I recall, a lot of the vehicles (or at least some of them) in the West End Games RPG that did not appear in the original trilogy came from production sketches and ideas that never made it into the films.
  11. I think he's making a joke at Toynami's expense.
  12. I just really don't think this thread poses a question that can be answered with an opinion. Also, keep in mind the difference in animation techniques, and target audience. Of course in the OVA Itano, Kawamori, and company are going to try and outdo themselves to impress the fans. It's the nature of the medium. Still, these variable fighters are not meant to be more advanced than those we see in future shows, and it's not simply the engines they're packing. By the time you upgraded an SV-51 to be a match for a YF-19 or 21, you'd pretty much have nothing left of the SV-51 in technology or design.
  13. I knew that Iron Cat was basically sued out of existance because the actions certain individuals regarding the handling of the Megatokyo book. Last I heard, Steve had let go most of the company and was trying to start over again by first selling off his backstock. Of course, the last time I saw him was AnimeReactor this past October. I was hoping he'd be at Central in May. Hmm, some of the posts in the forum seem to indicate this is the case, that they're trying to sell off their stock and get back on their feet, but not neccessarily as a publisher, at least not right away.
  14. Also, in the first movie in the DYRL? Saturn game, when the Valkyries are launching from the Prometheus, you can see them lighting up. It's the same group of box-shaped exausts that Chronocidal showed.
  15. you mean stupid critics I've not had any of the problems they were complaining about. Playing around with mine, I've deliberately placed him in poses that I was certain would topple the toy over, but Prime was able to hold them easily. Also, I've had zero paint chipping, and I've had mine since the first month MPC Prime was available in the States. The way they complain about the weight of the toy gives me mental images of them in highschool getting beat up and their lunch money taken by elementary school kids.

    Never b4 seen toy

Topless Valkyrie on a fur rug? All we need is some 70's porn music.
  17. Can't wait to see it once it's dry and smoothed out, it's looking excellent so far. Other than that, I can only echo the comments of others. I've always disliked the 1/60 VF-1S head, and hope that this improved version looks decent in fighter mode.
  18. Sadly, what can you expect? It's not like Steamboy is being heavily marketed, or showing in a lot of theatres. It's turning up in art theatres, and has less of a built in audience than Ghost in the Shell.
  19. As for the question of length, here's a blurb I read at the bottom of Ebert's review of the movie: I had to take his review with a huge grain of salt, as he complained that the colours were not bright and eyegougingly colourful. From the trailers, the colours looks just fine to me, very fitting to the setting and style.
  20. I really want to see it if for no other reason than Akira has the best animation in any movie I've ever seen, except for possibly a few sequences in Fantasia 2000. I doubt Steamboy has quite as good animation, simply because I can't imagine any production running up a budget the likes of wich Akira boasted for its visuals. Still, from what I saw in the trailer, it's very possible it does manage that level of awesome.
  21. Wich means nothing to the movies. The books and comics may be "official", but it has been proven time and again that they are not, nor ever have been, canon. The only things that are canon is what appears in the movies themselves, and what George Lucas himself says.
  22. Yeah, I can't really take this as proof that there is a huge demand for Southern Cross toys. There are always collectors. And this price is nothing compared to the literally thousands of dollars a good condition Bandai/Takatoku 1/55th was going for back before the market was suddenly flooded with reissues and new toys. Still, I feel your pain, man. Southern Cross is not a bad show, and has some great mecha. I'd like to see them at the very least recieve the MPC treatment.

    Yamato 1/48 VF-0S

Akilae, I haven't heard of any official statistics of any sort, but by all accounts the 1/48 line seemed to do very, very well. Many of them seemed to sell out very quickly, enough so to spark another run of the earlier types.

    Yamato 1/48 VF-0S

Yamato did plan to sell the YF-21 FP with swappable VF-22 parts, but they couldn't release it for some reason. The problem, or so the common belief seems to be, is that Bandai already had those designs tied up with the Macross 7 license.

    Yamato 1/48 VF-0S

I don't think the VF-0's more lanky design is a problem, it's not that much lankier than than the VF-1 and the VF-0 is rather bulkier than the VF-1 in places. There's plenty of room for transformation mechanisms, if that's what you're getting at. More fragile pieces, like the swing bar, could be made of metal. No, I think it's the lack of interest in the Macross line in general, and the lack of support from Kawamori and Big West, that are the primary problems. Yamato simply is not going to pour money into an expensive toy that they do not believe will sell.
