  1. There are different ways of measuring how good something looks. My yardstick might not be the same as the one held by the guy next to me. I think the SV-51 is alright. Not my favourite variable fighter, but not my least favourite either. However, I'm not one of those people that think every VF needs to look like the VF-1 or the YF-19, either. I absolutely adore the ugly but interesting VA-3 Invader. I also think the VF-4 Lightning III is the best looking Valkyrie every to fall out of Kawamori's pencil, in fighter AND battroid, and cannot for the life of me understand why so many people dislike it's battroid mode.
  2. The VF-4 origionally appeared in Flashback 2012. However, I'm fairly certain it was a selectable fighter in VF-X2. I know for fact it did appear in VF-X and M3, as well as the PS2 Macross game.
  3. Two words. "Third shift."
  4. I don't think either system has very many games out or announced that sound all that great. I also don't plan on buying either system until that changes, there's still plenty of great looking GBA games I haven't tried yet. Also, I tend not to judge games completely until they're actually out, so while one could say the PSP has several games on the roster that look appealing, we won't know how good they are until we've seen them in action. Though, personally, I've seen only about as many appealing looking games as the DS has in its lineup. As for battery life, well I can only speak for myself and I will be the first to admit that my situation is uncommon, but with a 5 hour battery life I'd be draining the PSP dry every night I took it to work, without any place to recharge it until I got home.
  5. A little skimming through IGN turned up their own experiences with the system. Now, I don't trust IGN's reviews all that much anymore, but I doubt they'd screw up on testing the battery life. They say the PSP battery(wich apparently got a reworking wich pushed back the initial release plans) gets about 5 hours of gameplay. That's not great, but also not too terrible. I imagine it would do most people just fine. Now if they only had some games...
  6. I have to second Sebastian's comments with my own experience. My Monster, like most of my other Yamato toys, arrived with absolutely no QC issues. The toy seems remarkably sturdy for how complex it is (I should be used to that by now, what with having 3 1/48ths) I've transformed the thing many times since I got it with no signs of problems. I'm a bit wary of leaving it up on a high shelf in battroid mode, but I suspect these fears are unwarranted. Whenever I've had it in battroid, it's been completely stable showing no signs of falling over. Yamato's instructions were confusing, but thanks to people here I had little trouble figuring out the transformation. I don't even look at Yamato's sticker sheets anymore. I eagerly await a custom set from one of the many talented people that frequent the forum. I'm certain they'll find some obscure model kit for the original Monster (unless that resin Konig from way back had stickers) and use those as the basis for an excellent set. I hope the Konig does well in sales. Despite all the complaints and concerns voiced here, my experience has been nothing short of excellent and I'm not certain everyone who has no problems speaks up so that it sometimes seems a toy will be a disaster.
  7. Peter, I imagine inbreeding would become less of a problem as time went on. Their kids split into multiple families. They spit out kids, the kids get together with the kids from the other families and split into even more families, so and and so forth until the line is so completely splintered. Grok? doodler7, this is probably newbie thread material by now, but to answer your question Zero takes place in September 2008, and the Macross launches in the tv series in February of 2009., so about 5-6 months before Space War I breaks out. You can find all this information and more at the Macross Compendium: http://www.anime.net/macross/ The Compendium is the most reliable source of Macross information on the net.
  8. I sure hope you're right.....and if they can release an obscure aircraft from a Playstation game. Then they might as well release the much beloved VF-4. You people! Do not toy with my feelings so! The VF-4 is my alltime favourite Valk, I can't afford to get my hopes up again for a possible toy of it, the dissapointment of it never happening would be too much!
  9. I'd say that the overall animation of the Macross 7 series is better and more consistent than SDF Macross, however most of the quality seems to be with the character and non-battle animation. Most of the recycled battle animations are very poor indeed, wich I can imagine does not sit well with those of us who were spoiled by the Itano Circus. There are exceptions, of course. Some of the battle animation in a few key scenes, animation that could not be reused, wasn't too shabby. Also, the transformation of Battle 7 was always a treat.
  10. Dynamite still doesn't have great animation, and there are several times where they just put still frames to music, but overall it's prettier than the tv series.
  11. Agreed. If they had gone full out and made the trailer this would be one of the most incredible and sought after Transformers to date, but as just a repaint I'm not interested. I suspect I'm in the majority.
  12. I've never seen anyone label the Transformers movie as "pretentious", and with good reason. However, my understanding is that the movie did bomb horribly. As for reviews, the Star Wars movies all almost always recieve unanimously bad reviews, yet they never seem to do too poorly in theatres.
  13. I'm not a display shelf collector, so none of mine get any sort of special treatment. I originally was only going to buy one 1/48, until I found out that they're not nearly so fragile as people originally expected. I'll even toss my Valkyries into my coat pocket and take them to work with me.
  14. you're not the only one...didn't doom get his powers some other way? (can't remember how at the moment since i haven't read any marvel titles in over 8 years) Doom is a master of science and sorcery... he dosn't have powers he has skills that he learned. His only real power is the ability to swap bodies with anyone... and he was taught that trick by some Aliens. Doom's powers are a result of arcane and sceientific knowledge and a suit of armour of his own creation. I'm not much of a Marvel or DC fan, but out of the glut of mainstream comics, Dr. Doom was always one of my favourite villains. No accidents, cosmic rays, genetic mutation, bug bites, he was bad ass because he made himself so. He also had class and style. Changing his story in such a drastic, and moronic, way would be enough to put me off this movie.
  15. Hmm. I have been picking up Yamatos and Bandais and all sorts of toys for years now. Some of those developed stress marks in places right away, after only a couple transformations. To date, however, not a single one of them has broken.
  16. That was the majority of the movie's plot, and a good 50% or more of it's running time. Saying this does not make it true. Explain why.
  17. My opinion and reasoning for that opinion can be found at: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=3751 Now, plot and character developement are not so important to me that I cannot enjoy a simple, straightforward action movie, but when the story relies on suspending your disbelief to the point that you can accept the main character running off on a wild goose chase simply because she can't remember an important childhood figure and friend, or that her mother gave her the item the goose chase was meant to go after (even telling her what it was called and who to give it to, that important childhood friend that she seems to have forgotten) and when people are asking her to go find it, by name, geez. And let's not get into the circular logic of many of the characters motivations again, like I said it's all there in that thread. Back on topic, however, it really depends on how well DYRL? was marketed. Let's not be so naive as to believe good movies will succeed and bad movies will fail. It all depends on the marketing, how receptive the audience is to the type of movie being marketed. It helps if the movie has aspects that would appeal to several markets, wich DYRL? does, and the marketing company needs to sell those aspects to the public, but not in such a way as to convince everyone that the movie is something it is not, such as an out an out action movie with nothing else, or a comedy, or a children's movie. Such mistakes will make the opening weekend a bad experience for most of the public that attends, and negative word of mouth will quickly spread. To that end, several things must occure before DYRL? can be released to a receptive market. Animation must regain at least as much popularity as it had during Disney's last peak, wich was around the time of Aladdin or Lion King. Anime-specific popularity must stay at least as high as it is now. Space Opera and general science-fiction should probably gain a bit more popularity for successful theatre run. Big West must market Macross Stateside like it never has before. Macross Plus, SDF Macross, Macross II, even Robotech must be all over the place. Airing on cable and Cartoon Network, and that ADV Anime Channel, for instance. Harmony Gold, should they seek to pursue a fair and profitable relationship with Big West could stand to do better than ever with thier hold on SDF Macross if they sought to aid Big West in these endeavours without tying up any possible cooperation with ridiculas demands or claims. Toys and other merchandise must be marketed. I can think of several ways this can be accomplished that benefit both HG and Big West without Big West being accosted with unreasonable demands from Harmony Gold over the non-SDF toys. The music would have to be promoted like nobody's business/ Not just DYRL?'s, but the entire franchise. To cater to an english speaking audience, Big West could hire Mari Ijima to work on english versions of the original SDF and DYRL? music. While there are difficulties that could make these english translations less enjoyable than their original Japanese counterparts to longtime fans, this could be a big breakthrough to the American audience at large. Finally, DYRL?, like many have pointed out, would have to get a wide release, as big as any normal Hollywood theatrical release. Unless all of these criteria are met, and possibly some I have not thought of, DYRL? would flop like any other anime movie release. As such, this question can not be answered with a yes/no/undecided poll.
  18. Appleseed was also a bad movie. It did everything wrong that mainstream movies are often guilty of, and then some, and didn't have much marketing on top of it.
  19. So...they're making Dr. Doom into a part of the spaceship crew who also gets altered by the cosmic radiation or whatever? That's what I got out of the trailer.
  20. Especially when it's given that the graphics for the PS2 version won't be comparable at all. I realize that graphics aren't everything, but when you have the same game on two systems, the play the same, sound the same, control pretty much the same, but one looks like crap, and the other is the Gamecube version...
  21. Most excellent. I look forward to this even more than I did the VB-6.
  22. Postman just dropped by, just dropped off a large box. I'm approaching the box now. I'm right above it. My God, it's full of Awesome.
  23. I have to disagree with both ProtocultureShock, and with Corey on this one. ProtoCultureShock, DYRL? is not a fast paced movie, and it simply sounds like you're not the type who appreciates a slower, more character-centric movie. I take that by your constant references to the action, I may be wrong. However, if I'm not there's really nothing wrong with that either. Personal taste, you know? DYRL? has long stretches of character developement and story, heavy on the characters. If you're not into that, or the characters that are the centrepiece of the movie, you're probably still going to enjoy the beginning and the end, but want to fastforward through a big chunk of the middle. This brings me to just why I disagree with Corey. I think DYRL? has plenty of story, and plenty of character developement. I had seen Robotech and Macross II before walking into DYRL?, and that was enough to have me know the basics, and what I didn't know from those, such as the differences of the term Protoculture, were pretty easy to pick up on. On the other hand, I know several friends who saw DYRL? as their very first Macross experience, and they all loved it. None of them had any troubles following the plot, as there really are no gaping holes. An explanation of the situation leading up to the beginning of the movie is provided when Hikaru and Minmay are stuck together in the engine block, and everything else falls right into place as the movie progresses. I also happen to believe that while the movie is far shorter than the tv series, the character developement was pulled off much better in the movie. Minmay is more likeable as a character, Hikaru's choices seem less foolish, the whole love triangle seems to flow better. To me, at least, and I realize I am in the minority here. However, all is not lost for action fans. They can enjoy the absolutely wonderfully animated action sequences at the very least, and there are other offerings in the Macross continuity that also serve up big helpings in that area. If, on the other hand, you can appreciate the character developement and slower moving segments of the movie, it's practically flawless.
  24. Huh, my Walmart, despite the fact that they seemed to have little problem selling any and all Alternators that came through the store, seems to have stopped carrying them altogether. No longer even a place for them on the shelves.
  25. Oh, just noticed this. While it is true that the investors in any film measure the success of a film by how much money it is made, that by no means changes the reality of how well written, directed, or acted the movie is percieved. Titanic's box office numbers were excellent. Titanic's returns to the investors were excellent. This has absolutely no bearing on the merits of the film itself as a film, only how well it was promoted and hyped.
