  1. A long time ago, One_Klump, I heard that was actually a plot point addressed by the movie. As for fast versus slow, the fact that zombies were everywhere in Romero's movies made them such a threat. Sure, you can get away from one at a light job, but what about the other dozen or so that have you surrounded? Also, as someone else pointed out, a big theme in the movies was that it was humanity the heroes had the most to fear from.
  2. He looks like another Starscream toy with less articulation (unless he simply isn't being posed, but his arms look like they lack joints) a crown, and a couple extras. How are the people in that thread judging its size? The only photos I saw were of the toy itself with absolutely nothing to show how large it is.
  3. They may not be dead per-say, but I still wager they're no longer alive as we know it. I think 1/1 LowViz Lurker is putting a glossy coat of sunshine on how damaged the APHOS looked after it was struck by the nukes. I also don't think the forcefield was to protect it, but to contain the radiation. Of course, this is all just conjecture.
  4. I'm pretty certain Romero had nothing at all to do with the recent remake, so what does it have to do with the price of eggs? Also, basing how well written a movie is on how many people rent it many years later is a superb example of folly, much like saying Titanic was an excellent film because it made so much money.
  5. Kawamori via Egan Loo?
  6. Watch the end to Zero again. After the nukes hit AFOS, you get a clear view of the cockpit area were Sarah was. Based on what I saw, I don't think Sarah survived. I'm inclined to believe that Shin didn't survive either, remember that death is just another beginning.
  7. Le-sigh, my most favourite of Valkyries. I'd be tempted to try my mediocre modelling skills on a kit, but I really wish someone would release a toy.
  8. I dig it, probably the best work I've seen of yours, Rico. Very nice. Huh, poking through your gallery there's some other nice works in there. Definite improvement since the last time I saw you post stuff here. Keep it up! I'd reccomend avoiding lens flares, though. There's ways to make your own without using the filter that look much, much better.
  9. To my knowledge, the VB-6 does not have landing gear. There's no lineart for it in the Design Works book, and every single instance of it being on the ground has it in Gerwalk or Battroid mode. Does anyone have any information to the contrary?
  10. To be fair, there's not exactly a lot to go on as far as judging the plot. One single short paragraph, and a few screenshots that don't really show anything. Another thing to consider, chrono, Romero's earlier movies were great despite a lack of big name talent. So a lack of A-list actors on this movie is nothing to critisize it for, so long as they play their parts well.
  11. I seem to recall it being known before Resident Evil: Apocolypse was even being considered. Shortly after Romero was booted off the first Resident Evil movie.
  12. You know, while Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within did have some rather obvious flaws, like the lack of a decent script, I felt the CG animation was quite good. I even liked the movie. I for one, think Cameron will do a knock-out job on this movie. If there is one director out there who has the ability to make a decent movie based from an anime, it would be him. He is just quirky enough to pull it off. You have to understand there is a difference between CG models, texturing, and the action motion, the animation itself that is. The CG models in FF:TSW were, for the most part, incredibly well done. Well textured, too. Very realistic, wich is what they were going for. Boring, but well done. What hampered the models were some of the most uncreative character designs to be featured in a big screen production in quite a while. Now the animation, on the other hand, while there were a couple moments of incredibly fluid and lifelike motion, the majority looked little better animation than the old Thunderbirds puppet show. Painfully awkward and wooden looking motion. The same problem the more recent 'Polar Express' movie suffered from. Well done CG takes every bit of effort as well done 2D animation, but many people don't realize this, and so shoddy, poorly done CG is the norm. Also, though I know I am repeating myself I say it again, 3D animation cannot replace 2D animation. They are two seperate and distinct media with their own strengths and weaknesses. 2D translates to CG perhaps only slightly better than 2D translates to live action. This is due to the very nature of the different media available to movie makers. In this sense, even if a well done live action or CG movie is made based on a 2D property, it will not hold the same appeal as the 2D work. It might be a decent movie on it's own, but it will, by its very nature, have to be for different reasons, and those reasons will not neccessarily appeal to fans of the original work.
  13. DeviantArt is only good in the sense that lots of people go there. The interface and site layout are just awful, you basically need to use Internet Explorer to correctly view the site, so if it's not your main browser, that's just another headache. The content restrictions have never really bothered me, but they are there so keep that in mind if any of your artwork is outside the realm of 'tasteful' as arbitrarily set by society. Still, even though lots of people go there, so many people upload crap all the time that anything you put on the site is likely to be swept from the frontpage in a matter of hours. And I do mean crap, there's lots of stolen artwork being posted there, and just plain bad artwork, like scribbles on lined paper. More and more people I know who host artwork there are jumping ship for www.sheezyart.com wich I suppose is the non-corporate alternative. Elfwood is exceptionally good in some respects, such as quality control, but since they have to approve every single piece that's uploaded, it can take a month or longer before your work actually appears on the site, from the time you originally uploaded it. My philospophy is to maintain several online art archive accounts, all of wich have some of my artwork, and all of wich are linked to my own, personal website, wich hosts all of my artwork.
  14. Heh, it took me a moment to realize the other Monster was a paper model.
  15. Yeah, Fleet of the Strongest Women is a very tongue in cheek, humourous sendup to DYRL?, it's the least serious episode of the entire series, and it works because it doesn't take itself at all serious, it's just fun.
  16. I imagine Zod's appearance will be limited to mainly recapping the previous movie.
  17. While I'm usually a big supporter of keeping toylines in-scale, I agree that 1/24 Alternator jets would be huge. Keep in mind, folks, that our beloved Valkyries are smaller than many modern airplanes, and look at how big the 1/48ths are. Now imagine them at 1/24, and then imagine a larger plane in the same scale. Yeah. Still, I would hope that Alternator Jets would be larger than the original G1 jets. I'd like it if they stood at least a little taller than the car Alternators in robot mode.
  18. Yes, we'd all like to forget 3 and 4. I'm embarrassed (sp?) to say I've even watched those. Anyway, supposedly they pick up 6 years after two. I'm wondering how they're going to explain Supes just falling off the planet like that for 6 years. Justice League fighting intergalactic menace? I'm with you guys, and the fact that they're taking this approach to the movie makes it sound actually fairly interesting. For the first time since the rumours of a new Superman movie surfaced, I'm actually somewhat excited about the prospect.
  19. Although I am well aware I am in the minority, I certainly would not mind a Masterpiece G2 Megatron. Done up right, I think it could be incredible. I was not at all a fan of the toy, but the design was fantastic.
  20. I am inclined to believe Keith's reasoning as to why this episode never aired. Like others, this is also probably my favourite episode of the series, and the other two encore episodes were also great.
  21. Overall, I really like Macross 7. I'm hesitant to call it my favourite Macross series, yet the truth is I pull it out to watch more often than any other Macross movie, OVA, or series. The main draw I have to the series is the characters and the character developement. Like others have already pointed out, there's a dynamic between the varied characters, and often they change slowly, over time, in the ways I see in real people. This impresses me to no end, as few shows, anime or otherwise, have been able to accomplish the same thing, and character developement in general is something I look for in my entertainment. I also like Basara, though he developes very little as a character his ideals and actions really are something to admire. He's an ordinary guy in all respects, except that he refuses to give up and bow down to the ideas of others when he disagrees with them. I think this mirrors our own lives in that there are many things our society takes for granted as right and wrong, true and false, that are either mistaken, or just not that simple. In the way he upholds his ideals, he reminds me a lot of the Leiji Matsumoto character, Captain Herlock. Mecha like the VF-22, VF-17. the Full Armour VF-11, and if we include Dynamite, the VA-3, the VF-5000, and the VF-19P are all excellent additions to the Macross universe. I also enjoy a lot of the ship designs, such as Battle 7, and many of the fleet's smaller military vessles. That's not to say I enjoy everything about Macross 7, there are things that bother me about it. Things that could have been done better. I do not like the Sound Force designs. I understand why there are tricked out glam-rock Valkyries, and why they're actually important to the story, but I think Kawamori could have designed some Valkyrie variants that still maintained the unique look Soundforce needed, while not completely offending the sensibilities of many longtime Macross fans. I do not like the look of many of the fleet's supporting colony ships such as the Einstein, the agricultural ship, and the vacation ship. I understand that they didn't neccessarily want them to look like military ships, but I think they made them look unneccessarily silly in some cases. Not in all cases, though. I've no problem with the look of the factory ship, or the Macross city ship itself. I also understand why many Macross fans might not like the idea of a transforming battleship at this point in the story. It is completely unneccessary, and any justification is completely fan conjecture. I let it slide simply because I enjoy the design, and the idea of a transforming battleship, no matter how unneccessary. I dislike the battle animations. Where as in most shows, it seems like the character animation is usually sacrificed for the battle animation, in Macross 7 the opposite seems to be true. All of the character animation is consistent and of decent, though on the low end. The battles are just wretched. Poorly animated, more recycled animation that was in the original show, and the VF-11s seem utterly useless in every battle. I understand that the VF-11s are supposed to be the cannon fodder of Macross 7, however this role is exaggerated to the point where it seems like command should tell all VF-11 pilots not to engage the enemy if at all possible, and just try to draw them away until the fleet's three useful fighters (six in later episodes) get there. Even SDF had it's moments where Itano's magic was shown off. Except for fleet of the strongest somen and small parts in Dynamite, we never see any of the missle swarms made famous in the original show. I am also not a fan of how spiritua is portrayed in Macross 7. It is shown in such a way that it's no wonder many Macross fans confuse it with magical powers, despite that it does not seem that way to me and Macross Zero seems (in my opinion, anyway) to back up my beliefs on the matter. The way I see it, the lights and sounds (other than the music, of course) shown are embellishments, much the same way we hear the engines and weapons of Valkyries, despite the fact that they're battling in the vaccuum of space. Another thing I dislike is the designs of the Protodevlin. Many have compared them to Sailor Moon monsters, and while Keith has indignantly pointed out this is not true, I still believe there is some truth to the statement, at least so much as in the style the designs seem to spring from. They would not appear out of place in a monster of the week sort of show. In the end, however, I have to say that to me the good points of the show out weigh the bad. Especially once the overarching story kicks into high gear, I really enjoy it. While I would not at all oppose the idea of a DYRL? style redux of Macross 7, with some improved designs and high end animation, I'm rather happy with what we got. While it does not compare favourably to other Macross shows in some respects, I think it excels in other ways.
  22. Sounds good to me. I still haven't seen all of the original series yet, though several people at the weekly anime group I attend want to see it, and what I have seen of the show reminds me a lot of Legend of the Galactic Heroes, wich is probably one of my alltime favourite anime series.
  23. I preordered mine through Hobbylink, and I haven't even gotten an email telling me it's shipped. No justice, I tells ya!
  24. I imagine the film needs that deadpan, dry british humour to make things work. I expect I'll be horribly dissapointed if that's missing from all of this. Still, I can't help but be optimistic, and find myself eagerly awaiting this movie.
  25. I also thought I'd just mention that I agree with Corey about Palpatine. He's definitely my favourite part of the prequels. I even loved that at the end of Episode I they make his election to Supreme Chancellor out to be something to celebrate.
