I don't know about all that, but I do know that Alliance was done by a different company, licensed by Lucasarts. As for "different feel", well, Alliance was closer in feel to the original X-Wing and TIE-Fighter than the horrible X-Wing Versus TIE-Fighter was. Alliance was basically the same as the original games, but with much better graphics, whereas XvT altered the performance of many of the fighters.

If kids grow up in an environment where subtitled entertainment is prevalent, then my guess is that they will be less likely to discern between subbed and dubbed anime. Someone that grows up only seeing entertainment in their own language is likely to, at least at first, be put off by subtitled shows or movies. Someone that grows up where as much or more of their entertainment is subtitled isn't likely to see it as out of the ordinary. Grok?
-
Dude, you do realize how old Alliance is, don't you? The graphics weren't bad at the time.

I just want another X-Wing game, is that so much to ask?

Captain Herlock: The Legend Returns is out on DVD from Geneon. I find it to be my favourite new anime release in the past several years. Rin Taro once again shows why he is such a renowned director, Matsumoto's characters are timeless classics, the music is excellent, and the animation is top notch. In addition, I second pretty much everything Keith suggested. Most Especially The Night the Earth Stood Still: Giant Robo the moment it is available on DVD. This is by far my favourite OVA. Much more deserving of the label "Classic" than most of the popular shows to have come out in the past 10 years. The Yamato movies should also be something to look out for, though I suspect you'd get much more enjoyment from them after seeing the actual television series first. Unfortunately, unless you find some fansubs or go the HK bootleg route, it is impossible to get the unedited show in english at this time. I'd also cast another reccomendation for the two Patlabor movies directed by Oshii. I think they far exceed more popular feature films such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell in nearly every respect.

Start with a vaguely passing resemblance, and add a lot of makeup. At times he does a fairly well done Sir Alec Guiness voice, too.

Most CCG's suck, no reason to expect the Robotech game to be any different. Not even for any dislike of Robotech itself. I hate most CCG games of franchises I enjoy. Then again, the one and only CCG that I've ever played and enjoyed was Illuminati:New World Order.

I'm not familier with this site, though I'm mainly upset when the MPAA and RIAA shut down sites that are distribute material that neither group should have any say ovr, like independant music that the bands themselves distribute using MP3 (many webhosting services will not let you host MP3 files regardless of whether or not you own them yourself because of the RIAA's scare tactics), the like the deal with SomaFM, an internet radio broadcaster that does not use airwaves, and does not play RIAA music, yet has to pay thousands of dollars a year for the privilege of continuing to broadcast WHILE NOT PLAYING ANY RIAA MUSIC.

My girlfriend takes apart computers and puts them back together, for fun. She has a red GBA she plays all the time. She loved Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. She likes a lot of the same anime I do. And she's hot. So no, I have not experienced this.

I'm all for the 1/48th. I think it has the best detail, the best transformation, and the best proportions of any VF-1 toys. Some people disagree with the proportions, thinking that the nosecone is too large, the chestplate is too wide, and the hands too small, but hey, that's all opinion so look at all modes on each toy and decide wich you think looks the best. Die cast content isn't a big deal with me, so long as the quality is there. The diecast on the 1/60 Yamato toys is almost all in the legs. For non-VF-1 toys, don't imeadiately discount the Bandai Macross 7 VF-17, it looks a helluva lot better than the Bandai VF-19 toys, especially in battroid. Also, the VB-6 Konig Monster is a must have, if you're willing to shell out the price of one. Basicially, I suppose what I'm saying, if you're going to get one and only one Valkyrie, get a Yamato 1/48th with FAST Packs. If you're only going to get two Valkyries, make the second one a Konig Monster. Past that, if you're the sort of person that wants one of every type of VF-1 ever concieved, the 1/60 line has just about all of them.

hevangel2, while I agree that the barrels would look nicer longer (something that has been a problem even in the Konig Lineart, but what can ya do?) are you adjusting the arms in gerwalk mode? I think the arms look fine, it may be a matter of opinion, or maybe you're not sliding them forward for Gerwalk mode? As for standing in battroid, are you positioning the two "rear foot" pieces so that they're facing backwards? If you don't then it won't stand correctly. Mine stands just fine in battroid. -
I just visit this thread expecting spoilers, and I agree that there really does not appear to be much left to spoil, however I do see where Duke Togo and azrael are coming from. There's not really any reason not to hide everything behind spoiler tags with a description to let someone know if it's something that may or may not spoil things for them. I imagine some people just come here hoping to see pictures of the new starfighters, ships, and wookie boats, wookie outhouses (seriously, what else could that last picture be of?) and don't want to see pictures that reveal that General Grevious is actually Obi-Wan's brother's uncle's cousin's step brother's former roommate.

Jar-Jar was overdone in Phantom Menace, much more than 3PO and R2, or Chewbacca's comedy moments ever were. However, still not quite to the extent most fanboys complain he was. What's more, I think Jar-Jar rather redeemed himself in the second movie, by almost single handedly becoming the downfall of the Republic.

yup... I pretty much leave grimlock in bot mode for that reason... that and I'm afraid his "spine" is just going to snap one of these days... thinking about picking up another one just to leave in car mode. Not me, once I learned to stop pulling at the arms, and keeping the doors out the way during transformation I stopped having any trouble with parts falling off, except occaissionally the bottom plate.

Ladies and gentlemen, Lucas has officially taken off the gloves.

I rather liked Zero, and many of the people in my weekly anime group think it's the best Macross to date. Then again, they weren't keen on the original series, and thought Plus was alright at best. The 2D animation isn't superb, but it's about or better than much of the 2D animation in Plus. I dislike the drawing style for both OVAs, but I still can't fault the quality. The CG is done rather well, for CG. I think the show would have looked much better if they'd put the money towards well animated 2D Valkyries, but hey, it was still by no means as craptastic as many other anime attempts to do CG mecha. I thought the ending was rather rushed, episode 5 looked like two, possibly even three episodes' worth of material crammed into a single episode. I thought the designs, the story, and the characters all worked well as a Macross prequel. There were no big contradictions to the timeline, none in fact, that I could see. I did not like the music at first, but it has grown on me quite a bit, and now some of the music ranks among my favourites. These are simply my opinions, though.

I like to get out to anime conventions whenever I can manage it, and several conventions I like to hit are 12 hour drives. Then there's school or work, playing between classes, or if your job permits during slow periods. Bus rides, car rides, shopping with the girlfriend and all sorts of stuff like that. It adds up. Then there's the fact that no matter how hard you try, you're not going to recharge the thing every single day, and you're going to run out the door, and find yourself with a dead PSP on your bus ride to school/work, or on your lunch break, or whenever it is you play.

Think of those that had to import it, with shipping and everything mine came to nearly $300! -
I don't think the VF-17 battroid would suffer any if the 1/65th parts that need to be sleeker, were made so. The parts in question are mainly the nose and the intakes of the fighter.
-
I have one of the 1/100 VF-19, very floppy in fighter mode, like MPC floppy. Like Ido said, massive part swapping. It looks decent in battroid, looks much better than any of the 1/65 V-19 toys, but it's still fragile and kinda floppy. Not bad if all you're going to do is put it in one mode and leave it on a shelf for all eternity. It is kinda nice to set it next to the 1/100 Konig Monster, though. I love my 1/65th VF-17. It's unfortunately less than sleek in fighter mode, but battroid looks great. Really, if they'd just made the parts sharper, sleeker, and more in shape with the line art, but left the transformation the same, it would have been pretty much perfect. As is, it's not a bad toy at all, basically a modern version of the old 1/55ths but with a little more posability.

Love the Konig, got mine standing tall in battroid mode in the center of the shelf atop my computer desk. I can't wait to hear of someone working on some decent stickers for it, some additional squadron logos (especially some underrepresented bomber squadrons as opposed to fighter squadrons) would be great if Yamato does release some VF-X2 colour variants. -
what macross character do you identify the most?
Radd replied to striderhiryu's topic in Movies and TV Series
myk, you must find it difficult to relate to anyone in that case, as most people rarely see more on a few facets of any other person's personality. Enough to form an idea in our mind of who they are, but that idea can often be no more true than any fictional character we might see in a book or tv series. Also, I've seen plenty of examples where "villains" and "heroes" were not so clear cut. Some writers manage to fashion deeper, or more realistic (the two are neither exclusive from each other, nor required to achieve the other) characters than others. On the other hand, I do think you bring up a good point that there is not going to be a Macross character that is spot on a match for every single person in this forum. Case in point, I can't think about any Macross character I relate to off hand. I'd have to think about it and come back to the thread. -
Can someone explain this picture from Macross 7?
Radd replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hey Keith, is there ever any absolute proof that those "flashbacks" are from the Macross universe version of DYRL? and are not supposed to be the actual events? Like I posted before, I've seen many people post here quoting Kawamori as saying that the "real" story of Space War One is somewhere inbetween the movie and the tv series, and whether from this episode in question, or from the documentary episode, I don't recall anyone ever specifically pegging these scenes as being from the movie. Or maybe we should ressurect the old thread for that topic? Also, while I agree that any fan of Macross 7, or any completist, should have a copy of FX's Macross 7 bootleg (unless, by some miracle, there is ever a legit english language release) for it's excellent video and sound quality (and decent subtitles for a bootleg), I think any first time viewers should watch the fansubs as some story elements are...less than clear with the FX subtitles (I said they were decent for bootlegs, they're still not great). I also completely agree with JBO's assesment on how it only seems like so many people hate M7 because of those who are really against it tend to be very vocal about it. Of course, there are a couple people on the boards that are very vocal for it. However, those that do like it tend to not get too involved in the bashing threads, and many have varying opinions on what they liked and disliked about the show, and even how they interpreted different things about the show. For instance, I've seen every episode of Macross 7 multiple times, same with the OVA and The Galaxy is Calling Me, and I don't recall any scene where music was used "as a physical weapon". -
FFVII Advent Children Trailer Four is out.....
Radd replied to Yang_Neumann's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just to clarify, I'm not arguing that you should like stories that don't explain everything clearly, that's a matter of personal taste.
