  1. Yo, not really a newbie question, but I also didn't think it deserved its own thread. Anyone know what scale the cheap Banpresto (redundant, I know) 2002 DYRL? Valkyries are? Are they 1/100 scale? That seems about right but I've scoured the box three times now and can't seem to find the scale listed anywhere.
  2. However, it's been pointed out many times that the games are EU and the EU official stuff does not neccessarily reflect Star Wars canon. For example, as far as Star Wars canon is concenred, those globes atop the Imperator class Star Destroyers are just sensors. Making them external shield generators was just a game mechanic for the X-Wing games that most people now think is official as far as everything Star Wars is concerned. Another example, Boba Fett died in the Sarlaac pit, unlike many EU stories that say he escaped. Any and all EU sources are to be taken with a huge grain of salt.
  3. Oh, it WAS pretty. But that was about all it had going for it. ... On top of that, for the American release it was hyped as having better animation than Akira, wich was definitely not the case, not even the same ballpark, not even the same sport!
  4. I really thought Motoko showed the most emotion and personality in the original manga. Of course Oshii's movie removed every ounce of personality from all of the characters, wich is supposedly one of the reasons Shirow hates the movie so much. GitS:SAC gives the characters a lot more flavour than the movies have done, but still isn't the same as the manga. One thing I do love about SAC is that it gives a lot more developement to all of the other section 9 characters besides Motoko and Batou.
  5. Different strokes for different folks. There's only been a couple episodes of Robot Chicken that I didn't think were absolute comedy gold, and many of my friends disagreed with me there, and didn't like the skits that are among my favourites. Overall, the show is a very specific brand of humour, so it's not surprising that there are people who don't like it.
  6. But, the thing is, they did turn something out. Still, I agree that some of the skits do go on for too long (then again, the Voltron skit was made funnier by the fact that it was so well animated, for such a lame joke that went on for too long). Most everyone I've seen the show with loved the Disney skit, too. I didn't like the Teen Titans skit at all, and the N'Sync skit was alright but nothing special. I did get a laugh out of "Enuck Chuck!" and "Bye!Bye!Bye!", though. I disagree on the no-name characters thing, though. The Darkest Sketch Skit was hilarious.
  7. Robot Chicken is mostly non sequitur and slapstick comedy, you really need to appreciate the nonsensical and the absurd to like it. Imagine a sketch comedy show crossed with Wario Ware and the 80's, then speed it up. Aside from Episode 7 wich was pretty lame, I love the show.
  8. Woot! 50 pages! Also, I'm doing Otazine again this year, so if any of you are hitting up Otakon be sure to check it out (this year both the writing and the art are much better than the webcomic). The Otazine comic shares many of same characters as the webcomic, but is less comedic and has much more of a plot. Here's a sneak peek at my Otazine submission for this year: Finally, May 1st is the one year mark for the webcomic. I've already gone back and redone all the word balloons as well as made some improvements to some of the artwork so I can have the first 46 pages printed up to sell as books at conventions. I also plan to redo the website so it will look much better, more professional (at least I hope it will). I've already sent the files off the printer, wich any luck I should have the books in hand in time for AnimeCentral in May.
  9. Why would anyone want to hack a LotGH forum? What next? Prank calling Miyazake?
  10. A most excellent piece of work. I haven't seen Final yet, but I'm hoping Central Anime will go right into it once they finish fansubbing the regular series.
  11. Yea...they both have a bit of wild hair that hangs down onto their foreheads....just like 100 other f&cking anime characters. I can actually see a bit more to it, not enough for me to scream rip off, but they do share some superficial traits. The hair is somewhat similar, both are drawn in a very angular style, with similar facial structure. They both wear uniforms with a stiff collar with a jewel of some sort in the bottom center. Individually these traits can be said of any number of anime characters. Here there's a vague, passing semblance worthy of a lame "seperated at birth" reference on some fan site.
  12. Some people just refuse to settle for what they consider to be crap. I don't think that is so hard to understand.
  13. Ok, I'll grant that his collar doesn't bother me nearly so much in that shot, in the original screenshot it looked like flat piece of cardboard sticking straight up in a circle around his neck. In this screenshot it looks a lot less like that. Well, at least on the side near the light source.
  14. There's a definite difference between and this: While there's a lack of cloth wrinkles and whatnot, the old MOSPEADA outfits looked like not quite skintight jumpsuits, it even appears that the top part is made up of two shirts. the collar part looks as if it has some depth to it. The new uniform is skin tight enough to show definite anatomy beneath it, less like a jumpsuit and more like what Superman wears. Also, that collar bothers me. I should mention I've never been a fan of the MOSPEADA uniforms, however it seems they have taken what I disliked about them and exaggerated those aspects.
  15. Not to mention the time and effort they put in, wich makes the price a bit more understandable, unless of course you are capable of producing a similar product on your own. I don't know about customizers, but speaking as an artist I generally have to work for less than minimum wage on my personal commission pieces. This Prime trailer looks sweet, though. I'm seriously inclined to treat myself to one after I've moved into my new apartment and taken care of all the associated expenses.
  16. Some things to consider with some of the current thoughts being bandied about. Medichlorians are never stated to be the source of the force, are they? As I recall they are mentioned as being somehow linked to the Force, and a higher count of them does indicate a person with potentially high Force sensitivity. However, I do not recall it being stated that medichlorians are the source of the force, or give a person their Force strength. As for Joruus C'baoth, that's all Extended Universe, wich really can only be considered when talking of EU ideas and continuity. You really can't take ideas or conclusions drawn from the EU and force fit them into the canon movie universe. I think the conclusions reached in the prior discussion as to why Anakin was not cloned are probably the best ideas reached on that topic. Simply that Anakin was there and available, with everything needed to make him the perfect Sith Lord to help Palpatine bring about the end of the Jedi. A clone would have to be grown over time, years even, and could be educated by clone education methods, but wouldn't have the experiences of Anakin, the specific experiences that brought about his rage. Plus, as stated above, the Force may or may not be genetic. Two generations of strong force users is no basis for the argument that it is, either.
  17. I agree with Gui. I mean, the animation, while noticibly jerky, isn't too terrible and seems to be well drawn. The lighting effects and CG mecha didn't seem to offensive, if a bit out of place in the case of the latter. The characters seemed well drawn. My only gripes remain the designs themselves, specifically the skintight spandex uniforms that would seem to be more at home worn by an american comic book superhero. Also, Ariel only seemed to fly in the tv series under a couple very specific circumstances, unless I'm misremembering? I hope they don't plan to have her just flying around at will now. Of course, that would make the spandex seem to make more sense, now wouldn't it?
  18. If you don't understand what's wrong, so completely and horrendously wrong, with that statement, I really don't know what to say.
  19. It just seemed to me that Shin assumed that the fighter was earmarked for him before his battle with Nora.
  20. HOLY! I hadn't even noticed that! Wow, good call! That makes the happy ending in TPM all the more insidious then! Yeah, that was probably the one thing I absolutely loved about TPM. Such an over the top Happy Ending, celebrating the fact that the single biggest bad guy in the entire Star Wars movie series had taken his first step towards galactic domination.
  21. Brom, they changed the reason why he got the other head. Man, I read that entire review, the long version, and while the review itself was very entertaining, it hurt me in ways I had never before been able to imagine.
  22. My mistake, Boba did have a theme. However, Admiral Ackbar served a bigger part in Jedi than Boba did in Empire or Jedi combined, but he didn't have his own theme. What of Mon Mothma? Wedge? Piet? General Veers? Chewbacca?
  23. Anakin didn't have a theme? I suggest listening a little more closely. He still retains the same theme he had from the original Trilogy (wich at various times is also the Empire's theme). It's there even in Phantom Menace, much moreso in AotC. Duel of the Fates is pretty memorable, and appears in all three movies. The theme of the droid armies wich later becomes the Seperatists' theme is one of my favourite of the Prequel themes. There are really plenty of memorable themes, no different from the original trilogy. Why doesn't Jango have a theme? Heck, why doesn't Boba have a theme in the OT? Even in the OT not every single individual character had their own theme, just a few of the major characters. Sometimes the themes would serve double, or triple duty, such as Vader's theme being the Imperial March, or the general Rebel Alliance theme.
  24. In my (limited) exerperience, it seems to me that this is usually caused by different groups working on different segments of animation, or they finish up one segment, go home, then come in the next day to get back to work, and tend to forget the little things until it's too late. Little gaffs like these are generally more trouble than they are worth to fix. Even with CG you can't just alter a model or something and be good to go, it takes a long time to render out the animation, so if it's not caught very early on, you'll be adding days to the rendering time.
  25. Central Anime has been fansubbing the show for quite some time, but they're still not finished. I'm filling the gaps in my collection now, all I've got left is episodes 31-35 and I'll have everything they've released so far. They have the main tv series episodes 1-47 available for torrenting, as well as Fleet of the Strongest Women and the half hour Macross 7 movie (a little side story that played along with the Macross Plus movie in theatres). FotSW just went up a few days ago, the movie a few days before that, so they're coming out pretty steadily and it looks like they plan to release everything. You can find the fansubs here: http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/166.html Stick with Central Anime. The other group, Anime in Action, stopped releasing M7 fansubs. Both groups do good work. Central Anime is also releasing Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and AiA is releasing a Gao Gai Gar fansub.
