From what I've seen, the MPCs have plummeted in price since their releases. I've seen MPCs going for as low as 17-20 dollars. As for the rest, well, I see them growing more expensive as they become rare, especially the 1/48ths, but the market is saturated with VF-1 toys right now, and if we ever do go back to the dark days of multi-thousand dollar Bandai 1/55s, and many hundred dollar bootlegs (I hope we don't), then it will be quite a long time from now. I'd reccomend holding onto the 1/48ths first and foremost, followed by the 1/60s. If you decide to sell your MPCs, whether you do it now or later, you're likely to sell at a loss.

Here, this should help: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting.php

Huh, you're right. I heard they were making a tv series and an OVA, but from the quality I just assumed this was for the tv series. As an OVA it looks really low budget.

George Lucas now wants to rape your adulthood...
Radd replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Do we ever. Of course, by now it's nothing new. -
That pretty much sums it all up. Hollywood's goal is to make innoffensive movies. Movies that aren't "good" per-se, but draw the biggest crowd. They might appeal to many, but aren't really great for anyone. Really good movies are likely to appeal to a smaller number of people, but appeal much more strongly, grok? Hollywood isn't the only industry guilty of this. It's rare that you see a car design that stands out from the crowd for the same reason. Music. Architecture. Fashion. The less individuality there is, the more people there are who will buy it. That's the theory at least.

It's also a tv series, I wouldn't expect Macross Zero level animation. Still, I'm not keen on the CG ships, the 2D animated ships from the old show looked so much better. I still think people think of CG as a shortcut, and don't realize that you have to put in every bit as much time and effort to make it look as good. I'm looking forward to checking it out. It looks a far cry better than that Sentinels garbage.

LowViz, you've just given me a new dream to chase after. I hadn't even thought of that, a Variable Glaug would be most excellent.

Bwuh? He forgot his name, but knew that these two were made by him.

I'm a big fan of the Konig that Yamato put out, so I hope it sold well. I wouldn't even mind some repaints in the VF-X2 colour schemes. With three new Macross products on the way, things are looking good.

Not at all an unlikely assumption.

Hey....I liked Bastille Day.

My friends and I have been watching Monster at our weekly anime night for a couple of months now, and we all love it. Very well written, aside from a few minor things that made me cringe. I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes as we've only seen 15 episodes so far. The character designs reminded me a lot of those found in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, so I looked up information on the show to see if there was a relation. Apparently not, but I did find out something interesting. The guy who did the music to the series was the same guy who did the music for Macross Zero.

By my understanding this is a relatively new trend. Relatively meaning as of the early to mid 90's or so, but still.

That $400 is still rumour at this point. Might be higher, might be lowers. The way Kutaragi talks...
-
I read that a few days ago, but I have to wonder how expensive the PS3 will be? It was known that the PSP was going to be expensive for a handheld before it launched. People at Sony were quoted as saying it would launch around $400 in Japan. It did launch with a big price tag, but $250 isn't nearly as bad as expected. It's been stated that Sony is aiming for a $400 price tag for the PS3 now, but if that's true does that mean the Japanese or American price tag? Sony's consoles have traditionally been offered cheaper in the States.

"Amazing things will happen here soon... ...Just you wait." I just watched the DOOM3 trailer again, and I find it fascinating how much more cinematic that was over this movie trailer. "Your death is coming... ...anticipation, after all, is everything."
-
This is the PS2 sequel I'm assuming? There's also a DS Katamari in the works apparently. Katamari on the go sounds good to me.

It occurs to me that it's really kind of hilarous to consider how terrible this trailer is compared to the trailer for DOOM3 a year or so ago. Hilarious in a sad sort of way. I loved that trailer.
-
I can believe it, easily. Unfortunately. It looks terrible and generic, but the only way to do a decent DOOM movie would be to make it an action/horror movie, and horror movies of that sort simply are not in demand these days. What's more is that it seems they're definitely removing all references to Hell and demons, instead making the monsters out to be mutated genetic creations. Luckily, ever since a DOOM movie was first proposed I've never had much hope for it being any good.

There are fansubs of Macross 7, so you could watch the series with decent translations and not have to pay for them. However, if after watching the fansubs you found you enjoyed the series, the FX version is well worth the asking price. The subtitles are good for an HK bootleg, but still a far cry from good for a legit translation, however both the video and audio quality are superb. I rather like Macross 7 myself. Even the beginning episodes seem better somehow after you've seen the series in its entirety. M7 is lacking in animation, and does not put much emphasis on the action scenes, however I feel it has some of the best character and relationship developement out of the Macross franchise, and out of most other anime. M7 also features some of the best music. Also, while I'm not a fan of the Sound Force designs, the series has some excellent mecha otherwise, including the VF-19P, VF-22, VF-17, and the VF-5000. While I do like it, and watch it more often than most other Macross shows, I do sometimes wonder how things might have been had Kawamori helmed the production himself. With only some minor cosmetic and storytelling/direction changes I imagine there'd be a lot less hostility towards the show from many of its detractors. Speaking for the animation, it's worse than the best of SDF, but far better than the worst of SDF. It's not terrible, and it's consistant rather than SDF's constant shifting between great and terrible animation. There's a lot of reused animation, and my biggest complaint is that the reused animation is no better than the non-reused animation. Usually productions make the reused animation a step or two up from the regular animation, to try and get people to forgive them for abusing it. It's better than the animation in shows like Evangelion (wich admittedly made excellent use of limited animation) and Black Heaven. Overall, it's easy to see why many Macross fans don't like 7 very much. While shows like Plus and Zero are more action oriented and darker, 7 is slightly more light hearted than much of the tv series and less action oriented. I'd say Macross 7 is like shojo-Macross, being more concerned with the character developement and relationships between the characters. If you don't put as much importance on those aspects, you're likely to dislike the whole show. Also, many of the designs are...not so great, and definitely very different from previous Macross incarnations. Not just the Sound Force mecha, but many of the Protodevlin designs look like something out of a sentai anime. For what it's worth, if you can get through the series, but still aren't completely enamoured with it, I feel that Dynamite 7, the follow up OVA side story, does away with a lot of the aspects I personally disliked in M7, such as the gaudier designs and poorly done battles. On the other hand, being an OVA it relised on already established characterizations and cannot go nearly as in depth with that aspect as a full 49 episode tv series. I hope that helps, but again your best bet is to check out a few episodes of the fansubs. Central Anime released them, so do a Google search and you should be able to find what you're looking for. 7 takes it time getting to the meat of the story, so many people dislike the first 10-12 episodes or so on their first viewing, and feel that the show picks up after them.

I've really dug what I've seen of Galaxy Railways. Solid, well written series. I wouldn't say the animation is equal to Endless Odyssey, there's a definite gap in quality, in Herlock's favour. Still, Galaxy Railways isn't hard on the eyes at all. I look forward to picking up the whole series. I hadn't heard anything about cameos, and I haven't seen any up to episode 14 or wherever it was I stopped watching the fansubs when the show was licensed.

That's a serious problem, most studios don't seem to see voice acting as a distinct talent. Movie stars are getting all the theatrical animation releases, despite lacking voice acting specific skills, and for television the trend is towards cheaper, less talented VAs. Added to this is the trend not to record VAs interacting with other VAs, instead having them read their lines out of context and alone in a recording booth.

My mom is awesome, way way back she picked up an issue of Game Player's Guide, and eventually got me a subscription. Eventually GP Guide turned into the best gaming magazine on the market. Too bad it got bought out, drove into the ground, and what's left of its rotting corpse is ign.com.

I had an N64 from the get go, and I never paid more than $59.99 for a game.

Harmony Gold did no new animation, they just edited the existing animation and dialogue. I believe many of the animators and such behind Macross also worked on Orguss. I think someone once posted Orguss screenshots of a scene where crates were being unloaded in a warehouse, the crates themselves labled VF-1J or something like that. The Orguss Valkyrie itself is a cross between a Valkyrie and an Orguss, hence the name. Just an animation joke, nothing more. There's plenty more in the series and movies, such as the already mentioned beer and sake missles, Macrossonalds, Hikaru's VF-1D crashing into Tatsunoko, Artland, and Studio Nu, with the Studio Nu mascot's expression changing as it's hit by the Valkyrie.
